McCain: Obama lead growing because 'life isn’t fair'

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/02/art.mccain.points.jpg caption="Sen. McCain said Thursday Barack Obama is leading in the polls because 'life isn't fair'."]
(CNN) - John McCain said jokingly Thursday that Barack Obama’s poll numbers are rising as the economy seems to sink "because life isn’t fair.”

“He certainly did nothing for the first few days,” McCain told Fox News Thursday. "I suspended my campaign, took our ads down, came back to Washington, met with the House folks and got on the phone, and also had face-to-face meetings.”

New CNN/Time/Opinion Research Corporation polls of several key battleground states released Wednesday found Obama has made gains across the board – either taking statistically significant leads, or erasing McCain advantages – over the past few weeks. Since the financial crisis began in mid-September, Obama has taken and held a lead over McCain in the national CNN poll of polls.

But the Republican nominee said the economic anxiety-fueled poll swing was likely a blip. “Well first of all, you know very well that these are temporary things," he said on MSNBC’s Morning Joe. "The focus was on the fiscal crisis we were facing. I understand that. I understand there are going to be ups and downs in campaigns. I'm happy where I am...

“I'm the underdog. I love being the underdog.... We're going to be up late on election night,” he said.

Running mate Sarah Palin is also facing an unfair disadvantage as she heads into the debate tonight, McCain told Fox. “Frankly, I wish they had picked a moderator that isn’t writing a book favorable to Barack Obama. Let’s face it,” he said. “But I have to have to have confidence that Gwen Ifill will handle this as the professional journalist that she is… Life isn’t fair, as I mentioned earlier in the program.”

PBS journalist Gwen Ifill, the moderator of Thursday’s vice presidential debate, is writing a book about Barack Obama and a new generation of black leaders that is slated to be released in January 2009.

Here he goes with the excuses

“Frankly, I wish they had picked a moderator that isn’t writing a book favorable to Barack Obama. Let’s face it,” he said. “But I have to have to have confidence that Gwen Ifill will handle this as the professional journalist that she is… Life isn’t fair, as I mentioned earlier in the program.”

Ifill is an outsanding jounalist, but quite frankly I would not like her to be the moderator because I don't want to give them any excuse to spin why Biden wins tonight.

Cry me a river. The bottom line is that if the American public trusted Mr. McCain the would be leading in spite of the economy. He cannot even get by without lying here either. He did not suspend his campaing, nor take off adds. What a bunch of BS. That is why he is falling further and further behind. Trying to make people feel sorry for you while portraying yourself as the one and only savior. Time for a reality check. What is sad, is that I would have voted for you 8 years ago. Not anymore.

I know MY life isn't fair-

I only have one house, and one car, and my wife was broke when I married her. She didn't even have a private jet-

    Woe is me!

Maybe I should vote for McCain, because he understands what life is like for the little guy- Oh, wait...

The McCain camp tried to paint the picture of Palin from the start as this "perfect" person who would swoop in and do wonderful things. However, as facts continue to come out on her and we hear her actually talk without a teleprompter we are repainting that picture of her. She is not the person the McCain camp tried to portray. She has 2 ethics investigations going on against her in Alaska, she received gifts from lobbyist and other special interest people, she charged per diem to stay in her own home, and just yesterday a new poll in Alaska shows her approval rating dropping by double digits. The McCain camp was successful at first of their portrayal but the media is doing there job to tell us the real story and the McCain camp is angry about it.

Why is this election even close? McCain keeps acting like a spoiled child.

"Life isn't fair"??!?!?!?! So its not "fair" that more voters in this country right now like someone else? Still complaining about not having as many town hall debates as you'd like? Have to have everything you own way? You sound more and more like Bush everyday when you talk like this.

Stop crying and pouting John! Be a grown up!

What??? Life isn't fair because you're down in the polls?! What about the people who are losing their jobs and their homes and can't afford to buy groceries or prescription drugs? What about them, Sen. McCain?

    Awww, poor little Johnny Boy.

    Running to be Whiner-in-Cheif?

He wasn't crying about the amazingly free ride he got straight through the primaries-

For example, the story of how he cheated on and dumped his car-wreck victim wife didn't even come out in the news media until after he won the nomination.

Or how the media ignored the fact that he missed more votes in Congress than Obama did.

Maybe the media was giving him such a free ride because they knew he had no chance of winning anyway.

McCain from 8 years ago would absolutely hate the pathetic, whiny, gimmicky McCain of today. Somebady put him in the DeLorean and send him back in time so he can warn himself against selling out and irreparably ruining his reputation.

The press reported on the upcoming publication of Ms. Iffl's book back in July, and it has been available for pre-order on Amazon.com. Since Ms. Palin's numbers are going down fast, the McCain campaign is just setting the stage for their spin tomorrow if Ms. Palin does poorly. How McCain can attack the credibility of Ms. Iffl in order to try and rescue his poor judgment once again is par for the course.

The McCain campaign is devolving into an absolute farce and circus. You want to start being covered fairly by the media? Stop doing outrageous, ridiculous political stunts in the middle of a financial crisis and start talking about the issues that matter to the American people.

Oh yeh, step into your time machine and replace Sarah Palin with a competent human being.
