McCain: Palin will do 'fine' tonight

Watch: Sen. John McCain on his campaign suspension, his running mate and the VP debate..

(CNN) - John McCain told CNN Thursday his running mate Sarah Palin will perform well at tonight's vice presidential debate.

"The fact is she'll do fine tonight. She has experience, talent, leadership. She has great inner strength. She has - an ability to lead that's been proven, taken on her own party," he said. "Joe Biden and Barack Obama have never taken on the leaders of their party on any issue. She's stood up for what's right for the people of Alaska. And she will stand up for what's right for America."

The comments come after Palin has faced criticism for her performance during recent interviews with Katie Couric. In the two separate interviews, Palin had trouble defending McCain's record on regulation issues, discussing the economic bailout, defining her foreign policy credentials, naming her preferred sources of news, and naming a Supreme Court case she disagrees with.

Asked if Couric's questions were fair, McCain said he would let the American people decide.

"I know that there have been attacks on Sarah Palin that have been remarkable to me in many ways, but I have total confidence in her. She's very comfortable in her own skin," he said.

Katie Couric is now a national hero for her interview with Sara Palin.
She should be awarded a medal of honor for letting the public see and hear just how inept sara palin really is.
ALSO, Jack Cafferty is also a hero for having the guts to speak out about her!
Our country is at stake – and the public needs educated about the republicans in this election!
KUDOS to Katie Couric and to Jack Cafferty.

Somebody start checking McCain's food for drugs, okay? As Letterman suggested, I think someone's been slipping him something. Maybe crystal meth – apparently they make a load of that in the Valley where Wasilla is located.

As long as they keep questions for Sarah limited to topics such as :

    1. What is your middle name
    2. What kind of Ammo do you use in your M16
    3. Besides deciding when the snow plows roll in the winter, do you have any other decisions to make as governor.
    4. Do you suppose that the Dinosaurs and the people that lived on earth 6,000 years ago looked and acted like the Flintstones?
    5. Do you think your running mate is old?
6 Are you going to start reading newspapers now?

Sen McCain, your daughter oops I meant running mate will do what she always does and regurgitate your history as what else a POW. No one in America believes that you are qualified to be President just because you spent time as a POW. Gov Palin is a joke and you are a cranky old man who has resorted to dirty and untrue tactics to win the election. Shame on you sir, shame on you. Let's talk about how you wished to pain Obama as an elitist when you have how many homes again ...oh wait you don't remember(senility perhaps) and how many cars again? America wake up...this is not a game

What has Couric done in her life that made any difference? What has Charlie Gibson done in his life that made any difference? I have not heard Gibson ask Obama or BIden, or Hillary for that matter, the trick questions he asked Palin. Of course, he didn't know what he was asking anyway, so he just looked like an idiot himself. What else is new? Couric doesn't appear to have that many brains either, as far as I'm concerned. If she did, she wouldn't have accepted a job that she was obviously not qualified for. Lowest rating for the evening news. Good job Katie!

senile old man.....he doesn't know what he's talking about let alone Palin. Mccain is stubborn to admit to his mistakes....

Just imagine if he was in the White House and behaving like that! It's scary.

One question I've always wanted to ask...if you have to keep taking on your own party's leaders, why are you still part of that party?

Why not break off and start your own if you are so right and they are so wrong? If you are correct about everything, wouldn't all those in the party who like you better follow?

Or do you realize you haven't got a chance to get what you want (the chance to be called Mr. President) unless you get the current party backing?

Cramming for a test is basically all Palin is doing. She has no real education or concept of anything other than her alaskan town.
She needs to go back to alaska – Russia misses her.

I'm looking forward to Palin going down in history next to Dan Quayle after she opens that big mouth tonight. Maybe she'll cry? Perhaps Grampa McCain will jump up and answer the hard ones for her? Will she wear a backpack and earpiece so Rove can give her the answers, like Bush did? Caribou Barbie goes to the debates.

I am ashamed of the McCain/Palin campaign. This should go down in history as the most PATHETIC campaign in American history. It is the laughing stock of the entire world. Anyone with an ounce of intelligence can see that these two people are disastrous for the US.

Last time I checked, McCain, being comfortable in your own skin does not qualify you to be Vice President of the Untied States, or even, dare I say, President of the Untied States, god forbid something happen to you.

I can not wait for the debate tonight. It should be the final nail in the coffin, as Gov. Palin will show the world that she is a pathetic excuse for a leader, and will prove that she makes even the current president look like a genius.

I have an idea. When McCain and Palin loose the election, everyone that supported them should move to Alaska and start their own country.

Let the rest of us go about rebuilding our great nation.

Knowing the rabid religious right, is in control of the Republican party and believes in the written word, I will attempt to conclude with a biblical metaphor about evolution..

Obama the community organizer, walks into the Garden of Evil and snatches the apples away from Adam and Eve and all their children. This prevents the garden that we love from being driven into the dust from whence it came. Meanwhile the Republicans continue to drill the party deeper and deeper into the mud. Finally the Republican party’s evolution is complete and emerges as the Reptilian party.

It could not happen to a more deserving group of reptiles.
