(CNN) - A new poll out Monday shows Barack Obama holding a slight advantage over John McCain in New Mexico, one of the most closely-fought presidential battlegrounds in the last two election cycles.

According to the new survey from the Albuquerque Journal, Obama holds a 5-point lead over the Arizona senator there, 45 percent to 40 percent, with 15 percent still undecided. The poll carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.

The state narrowly voted for Al Gore in 2000, and for George Bush in 2004. CNN’ Electoral Map considers New Mexico to be "leaning Obama” this year.

William Kristol's editorial in the NY Times exemplifies the reason why today's neocons are going down the tubes. As the economy crashes under Republican deregulation, Kristol parrots Palin's garbage attacks against Obama.

A change in tide for conservatives would mean that they start thinking for themselves, instead of regurgitating the talking points of the day.

Thank you New Mexico. America needs a strong economic leadership not McCain and Palin who aren't qualified to address our economy so they resort to name calling and smear tactics. Our economy is not a "play ground child's game" of name calling which we teach our children not to do but we send them to school to learn math, english, science and other academics, not to be failed students like McCain and Palin.

Prior perception: This woman has effectively removed all “blonde” jokes from the public stage.

New perception: It is now time for brunettes to ascend to center stage!

I'm really concerned about the mental stability of some voters who are at this point in the campaigning still undecided! There is/was plenty of information out there on all the candidates and to be still "sitting on the fence" is unbelievable. What are you waiting for...a gaff from one side or the other to knock you off? It's time to look at the issues with an eye on the past an ahead to the future. That future does not include McCain in it.

Obama holding lead in most of the polls today because he READS SPEECHES AS SWEET AS BRITNEY SPEAR SINGS THE SONGS, and he ACTS AS CUTE AS PARIS HILTON DOES. That's why some people like him. But at the end of the day, voters will chose A STRONG LEADER, NOT A GOOD SPEECH READER.

Personally, I won't be satisfied until McCain loses this election and then loses his next campaign to be re-elected as Senator from AZ. He does nothing for us here in this state. He doesn't listen.

Elect Obama, he'll bring change and decency back to the white house.
New Mexico, welcome to the blue side of the map.

  11. Republican Mom for Obama!!!

I do not understand how this race is still close!
America, this election is not about what party you belong to. It is time for Republicans, Democrats, and Independents to unite and do what is best for our country. Do not base your vote on image or we will all be hurting and paying the price.
Do the right thing: Vote for Senator Barack Obama!!!!!!

@Olivia. Didn't anyone tell you, you poor thing? Fox isn't a real news station. In reality it's just a mouthpiece for the Republican talking points. Have you ever seen anyone on another news program attack an invited guest who didn't agree with their strongly expressed views?

A win for Obama is not a win for a party. Its a win for America. Mccain has constantly spoken garbage. He is not only out of touch but out of mind as well. Waiting to celebrate a loss for Mccain.

I hope it stays this way because with McCains temper and erratic behavior and Palin's ugly ways beginning to rear their ugly heads in the election. Can you imagine the terror they'd cause America. WWIII and a new Cold War can only be on the way.

the fact that you are watching a Hannity "documentary" and on top on that on the tabloid cable news of FOX does not say much for your ability to have independent thought. Look at the facts, go to the Library, study the bio's and things will be much clearer.

    Obama has the advantage...
Obama has a fat wallet also.
Little known fact...George Bush and Greenspan went before the Senate Banking committee repeatedly over the last eight years to testify that we were going to be in a heap of financial difficulty if there was no oversight. Barney Frank and Chris Dodd and Schumer blew them off and said "no problemo".
Obama and Chris and Barney all benefited financially with huge sums of money being given to each by Fanny Mae.
Is CNN to liberal to report honestly about this?

Obama should run this ad from now on out:

"On the Economy? McCain has no answer.
On the war in Iraq? McCain has no answer.
On selecting his VP choice? McCain had no answer."

This one tells it all in three lines.

At a time when Dow plummets more than 300 points, falling below 10,000 for the first time in nearly 4 years, McCain resorts to smears. I need to know how I'm going to pay my rent and feed my children. That's what I want to know Mr. McCain.

OBAMA will be the next president if AMREICANS can over come the "RACE"issue. I was watching on the VP debate when SOLEDAD O'BRIEN asked some undecided voters whom the think will win the 2008 election more than half of them said OBAMA! When she asked how many of the will vote for OBAMA, less than half of them raised their hands. Why are the not voting for McCain? I guess his administration will be continuation of Bush and not voting for for OBAMA because? .... Go figure!!

I sure hope people see through the lies of the McCain camp. The ad i saw yesterday saying Obama voted to raise taxes 94 times is a good example. Pailin was destroyed at the debate when she tried using that joke line. It made her and John look foolish when the same basis was applied to John McCain and it was almost 500 times he voted to raise taxes. The truth is the basis is completely flawed and it was ridiculous to bring up. Not to mention following up with an ad really makes them look stupid. Then the Ayers thing that is nothing but a joke and again makes them look stupid because it has been disproven. Come on people (obama was 8 years old when the man did what he did) oh and by the way was aquitted of it too. Now they are taking a true statement Barack said about needing to get more troops in Afghanistan so we are not air raiding villiages and killing civilians and adding a word into the statement falsely that makes it appear it is a bad thing. They inserted the word troop. The statement was not saying that our troops were killing civilians it said that by air striking we were killing civilians because it is not as precision as ground troops. McCain should look in the mirror at what he has become. He is nothing but a sad old pathetic man who has lost whatever decency he ever had.
