Palin schedule shows McCain on the defensive?

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/06/art.palinnc.ap.jpg caption="Palin will go to Greenville, North Carolina Tuesday."](CNN) - The McCain campaign announced Sarah Palin is set to make a stop in North Carolina Tuesday night, two days after the Republican VP candidate stumped in Nebraska - two reliably red states that haven't voted for a Democratic presidential candidate in at least three decades.

Palin's most recent travel schedule is the latest indication Barack Obama and the nation's ailing economy have put John McCain on the defensive, even in states where the prospect of a Democratic win was unthinkable only four years ago.

Palin's visit to North Carolina comes as most recent polls of the state show Obama and McCain essentially in a dead heat there. A CNN/Time Magazine/Opinion Research Corporation poll of North Carolina last month showed the candidates dead even, while some recent polls have even suggested a slight Democratic lead. CNN/Time Magazine/Opinion Research Corporation will release a new North Carolina poll Tuesday morning.

Then there’s the unknown variable of an anticipated rise in turnout in the African-American community. In 2006 that voting bloc made up 26 percent of North Carolina's electorate, with 85 percent voting for Sen. John Kerry. Obama is expected to win an even higher percentage of the black vote this cycle, with a higher expected turnout as well.

"The North Carolina of today is far more diverse than the North Carolina of twenty or even ten years ago," CNN Senior Political Researcher Alan Silverleib said. "The state’s changing economy has attracted thousands of new voters willing to pull the lever for a Democratic nominee. Second, the state’s sizable African-American voting bloc is extremely energized by Obama’s candidacy. Third, the economic downturn has made Tar Heel voters — just like voters in the rest of the country — much more receptive to the Democratic message of change."

Palin's appearance in the state comes more than five months after McCain held his last public event there, delivering a speech in early May at Wake Forest on his vision for judicial appointments. The event came the same day as Indiana and North Carolina's Democratic primaries and was largely overshadowed by the still-ongoing battle between Obama and Sen. Hillary Clinton.

McCain-Palin spokesman Ben Porritt said Monday the campaign remains confident the Republican ticket will carry the state.

"This is a state that Barack Obama has put millions of dollars into," he said. "This is an opportunity to speak to our supporters there and makes sure they turn out."

Porritt also declined to say whether McCain has any plans to visit North Carolina before Election Day.

The North Carolina visit comes after Palin traveled to Nebraska's Second Congressional District Sunday, prompting pundits to speculate the McCain campaign is worried the Obama could peel off an electoral vote there. Nebraska, like Maine, awards its electoral votes by the winner of each congressional district, and the second district - which includes Omaha and its surrounding areas - is the most Democratic.

But Palin told Nebraska voters Sunday she was not visiting the state because the campaign was worried about a possible loss there.

“The pundits today on TV—one of them was saying, check out the vice president’s schedule, check out where she’s going—she’s going to Nebraska,” she said. “But the pundit was saying the only reason she’d be going there is ‘cause they’re scared, so they got to go there and shore up votes. And I wanted to reach into that TV and say no, I’m going to Nebraska because I want to go to Nebraska."

I think this is all Caribou Barbie can do, is tell the misleading information about Obama. She says something to the effect that Obama was in the house of a known terrorist to promote his political moves. Ok, gloves off now. Just because he was at the guys house when Ayers was linked to terrorist activites 40 years ago does not prove a thing. Lets turn the pages on princess here for a minute. Her own husband has a known DUI. Because she is married to him, and a DUI is a felony in some states, we could say that she consorts with known felons! How you like them apples, sweat pea?

Everyone has to remember to vote on November 4th! It's dangerous when you start calling a landslide. People start thinking they don't have to go vote because everyone else will. Go early & make your voice heard! YES WE CAN!

Palin- An unintelligible mess who will only be able to figure out her position of power as time elapses. A faker, a fraud. A poor mother. A source of power for John McCain to steal the 2008 election.

McCain- A man who was near dead-last in west point. A man who only made it in because of his military family background. A flip-flopper, a liar. A man so far out of touch with reality, as well as current social and economic problems in the US. An "old fart", with no true vision of our future. A rich Republican. A man that

I beg anyone who reads this you use their brains. You ask for true change? Real, solid, and foundation shaking change? Vote Obama/Biden in 2008. Put the United States back on track with the rest of the world.

I thought that calling someone a terrorist with racial overtones is considered a hate crime? Why is nobody addressing this? As a citizen, I would like to know why a police officer can go on a stage that is nationally televised due to it's content and almost make a threat with no consequences? If Obama did something like this, the RNC would be all over it. The DNC needs to take this one and run it to the highest authority. I'm appalled and so is everyone I know. All of my Indy friends are decided and ready to put an end to this ridiculous pitbull and maverick crap. OBAMA/BIDEN WE WILL PREVAIL!!

McCain spokesman Ben Porritt has been smoking some really hard stuff if he thinks McCain/Palin will carry North Carolina. She needs to go back to Alaska and hurt Moose and McCain needs to go back to Arizona and hunt for his brain and his honor.

Wasn't it McCain that said this wasn't going to be that kind of campaign? "No dirty tricks, just straight talk" ??
Only bump that McCain ever got was tapping the "Alaska disasta", a piece of eye candy that's giving us all cavities now. Better start getting used to the sound of President Obama, it's going to happen...

Yes you are racists because you keep bringing up Obama's greatest fault is his name! That is why obama supporters call you haters as racists because you are. You are providing fodder for this title. Just look at the obama haters comments it's based on his middle name.

Yep, they gotta get Daily Scandal Palin out to the states to spread some more lies about Obama. If it doesn't work in 49 other states, maybe it'll work in North Carolina. lol. They're just so beyond outrageous it's gone beyond being entertaining. I can't wait for this election to be over just so I don't ever have to see or listen to her bs again.

I was totally repulsed by Gov Palin's winking and cutsey/folksey attitude at her debate. It was grossly inappropriate given the seriousness of the times in this country. If Sen Biden had winked you just know there would have been cries of sexism. I guess Gov Palin is trying to play you gullible guys out there with her looks. Women see right through that trash because people like her give the rest of us a bad rep. Very shallow, but that's about all she has going for her , since she and McCain are on the wrong end of most issues.

Sarah: I think that the rays emitted by that tanning bed had definite permanent physical effects. The repetitive winking is difficult to take, but the misquoting of such American leaders as Madeline Albright really leave me with a pit in my stomach. Get it right girl, or keep your mouth shut.

A little too late to go on the defensive. You lost this election McBush and that country bumpkin sidekick of yours. Even I don't sound like that and I'm from Texas. I at least try to talk like I have sense. This ticket should be ashamed for bring division and accusing Obama of being a terrorist. Repugs are dumbest to believe such bulls..t. If Obama was involved, our government would definitely have known about it and he wouldn't be campaigning. Besides, if they thought Ayers was a real threat, why the hell is the man walking around free and a professor at a university for Gods sake! I guess it shouldn't surprise me, I was wondering when the racist would come out, because that's what they do, use fear, they will always be fearful of what is not known to them. Not all but whites been doing it for centuries. The indians, the Japanese, black people and need I go on. Always in a box, but never looking from the outside but always in. Well, I betting on those who don't think that way, who actually believe in the good of America and let these kind of people know it's unacceptable and truly unAmerican of them, they have no clue what America is really about.

  20. Lying Palin

I know all of this lying and avoiding the issues that American citizens want to here are going to backfire on McCain...I really feel sorry for him because he has a conniving, vicious and lying running mate that will do anything to destroy McCain and this country to win. If there is going to be dirt flying what about the troopergate mess in her state that she is running from. What about her trying to make that poor young man marry her daughter who is so afraid of the Palins that he is in hiding. What about her afair with the business partner of her husband. What about McCain with his drug popping wife that he is with after leaving his poor ex wife when she was sick. What about McCain in Keating 5. Obama needs to have an ad for each one of these. PRESIDENT OBAMA (2008)

McCain & Palin are the real Terrorist. A terrorist job is to tell lies no matter how Bold faced to scare the people into thinking a certain way. I Guess that's how the 2 mavericks think there 're gonna win. By Scaring people who don't know any better away from a potentialy great leader. Palin needs to go home to Alaska & educate her daughter on waiting until she's married before having kids since the Republicans think they are so much more moral than The Democrats. McCain if you have a problem with OBAMA you throw your own dirt & stop getting your Bimbo to do it for you. Folksy That's republican for BIMBO without a clue...

The voters are getting the wool pulled over their eyes, Obama sucks, he's like anotherr Jimmy Carter who had no balls to do anything.
Worse yet McCain srewed up by picking Palin. He had a sure winner if he only picked Romney for his running mate.
If you want truly a change vote for Ron Paul.
People that will vote for Obama will be sorry that they did.
They are voting for Obama not that he is qualified to be President but their voting for him only because they hate Bush. Poor Bush he gets blamed for everything, in the end the Democrats will be a sorry bunch and will feel like they got snookered.
Good luck to all the Democrats.
