Age, health questions continue for McCain

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/HEALTH/10/08/ftl.mccain.health/art.ftl.mccain.health.jpg caption="Republican presidential nominee Sen. John McCain and wife Cindy greet supporters Monday in New Mexico."]
(CNN) - Meghan McCain was on the talk-show couch, being grilled by the hosts of "The View." Does it bother her to hear jokes about her father's age? Megan, 23, started chuckling, and allowed, "He IS old!" Tension was replaced by laughter. But that was summer. These days, for Republican Sen. John McCain, age is no laughing matter.

Watch: Is McCain fit to be president?

Age as political issue has become a reality the McCain campaign does indeed have to face. McCain turned 72 in August, which would make him the oldest man to begin a first term as president - three years older than Ronald Reagan.

Clips of McCain making supposed age-related gaffes circulate on the Internet. Last month, Sen. Claire McCaskill, a Missouri Democrat and a supporter of Democratic candidate Sen. Barack Obama, said McCain's age and skin cancer history were fair game as a campaign issue. "We're talking about a reality here that we have to face."

All this skates over the fact that McCain already allowed reporters a peek at eight years worth of health records, dating back to 2000, while Obama has released a one-page summary from his doctor. McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said it's a double standard. "The arbiters of this election are not demanding the same level of disclosure about Sen. Obama. He's essentially running on a doctor's note. I had a harder time getting out of high school math class."

When you are in your 40's there is often limited health information/issues but when you are in your 70's that situation obviously changes!

Most Forty year old men are not going to have the extensive health record of a man that is almost twice his age. Tucker is a moron, maybe age wouldn't be such an issue if McCain did not pick Sarah Palin for his V.P. pick because that right there makes everyone worry about his health. When we could face the reality of this co called hockey mom in the Oval Office. Talk about not ready to lead!!!!

We, as a nation desreve to know the health issues with all the candidates.
We are voting for the top of the ticket, but if there are health problems that may incapacitate the President their pick for Vice President becomes paramount.
This IMHO is much more important in the case of McCain than Obama both because of their relative ages and their pick of running mate.
I DO NOT WANT SARAH PALIN to EVER get close to the White House.

McCain is a bitter, sickly, old man and McCain is the liar, who due to his age and failing health, would most likely not even see out a first term in office. The only person who world leaders would respect even less than McCain is Palin.

Educated people aren't swayed by the lies of an elderly, sickly old man and his attack dog of no bite but of endless unintelligible bark.

Burn, McCain and Palin, and you know where.

If race is an issue, age should too. Sometimes people can be old with vitality fo a youth. But in McCain's case every bad sign of being old is progressively showing. And that is a problem.

  8. Hey McCain- Thanks but no thanks

Who are they to critize Obama's doctors note when the have a VP that is currently being investigated and has dodged a court subpeona- that is certainly a heavier weighted problem in the race for the Presidency!!!

    McCain– No way, No How!

My father has early Alzheimer's and I swear that sometimes the similarities between him and John McCain are eerie.

The New York Times has published a separate list looking at contributions from "directors, officers, and lobbyists for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac" for the 2008 campaign cycle. That list — using figures from the Federal Election Commission — shows McCain receiving $169,000, while Obama received only $16,000.

Obama's age and health status should also be a concern. Younger folks do not have the wisdom from experience, and Obama is very underweight and still smokes like a chimney.

Age, Health?Computer?Email?POW? ... What's new? Old concerns from Day-1. Who brings this up again? Nothing else to talk about?

Hollywood should well hire him. Acting as a veteran from Vietnam war and imprisoned for 6 years, coming out of the prison finding himself a HERO already. Bragging all the way till the presidential race.

Quite a story to shoot a best-boxoffice movie.

The debate winner is: "That One" – Mr. McCain needs to practice how to call “that one” Mr. President. Get to it McCain you only have 27 days to master “Mr. President-Elect”.

McCain's prospect for presidency would have been a lot better if he chose Lieberman or Romney. What a reckless decision to pick Palin, who has offered nothing but a conspiracy for hatred and murder!

McCain was *so* lost last night on the debate. He was losing his train of thought, he had to write down THREE SIMPLE TOPICS that Tom Brokenjaw asked, then he had to keep walking by his chair to look at his notes, he was mumbling. Sheesh. This guy is in no shape to be President.

McCain comes across as old, mean and bitter
Between your negative remark to Obma as *that one* and Palin inciting hatred on the stump with crowds your going down in the polls and Senator Obama is going up!!!
Cindy McCain needs to take her heads out of the clouds and realize yours and Palins remarks are the campaign that is negative!!!
The secret service need to step up and give Palin a stern warning about inciting hatred and racism in her rhetoric!!

I decided to read and digest a slew of Fact Checks only to discover that most of the time John McCain’s accusations were either false or misleading.

Now we know why Republican bloggers here are a mere “skeleton staff”. The intelligent ones won’t refute anything put forth on this website for fear that a dunce cap might suddenly appear on their heads. I guess die-hard NOBAMAS will hesitatingly pull the lever for Shaky and Flaky on E-Day while weeping, wailing and gnashing their teeth.

    Ay, dios mio!!

    What?

    CNN, blatantly printing lies?

    Obama's health records are public.

McCain Allowed a select group reporters access to his 1,173 pages health records for a 3 hours in a room in Phoenix. The records could not be copied or taken out of the room. Only selected news organizations were represented – for example not Times.
