Cindy McCain goes on the attack

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/08/art.cindymac.ap.jpg caption="Cindy McCain is getting tough on Obama."]

(CNN) - Cindy McCain, wife of Republican presidential candidate John McCain, appears to have sharpened her attacks against Barack Obama on the campaign trail in the final stretch of the race for the White House.

One day after she told a Tennessee newspaper Obama is running the "dirtiest campaign in American history," Mrs. McCain criticized the Illinois senator for voting against a bill to fund troops in Iraq, a regular line of attack from her husband’s campaign.

“The day that Senator Obama cast a vote not to fund my son when he was serving sent a cold chill through my body, let me tell you,” she told a Pennsylvania crowd before introducing her husband and Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin.

“I would suggest Senator Obama change shoes with me for just one day. I suggest he take a day and go watch our men and women deploying," she also said, to boisterous cheers from the campaign.

The vote Mrs. McCain is referencing came in May of 2007, when Obama was one of 14 senators who voted against a war-spending plan that would have provided emergency funds for American troops overseas. He, like many Democrats, was pushing for an end to the war in Iraq, and the legislation included no provisions for that. Before that vote, Obama did support and vote for a funding proposal that included a timeline for withdrawal from Iraq - a troop funding bill McCain opposed.

A CNN fact check deemed the charge that Obama voted against troop funding "misleading."

Isn't that rich ....Cindy McCain of the Republican Party saying that Barack Obama is running a dirty campaign ...lest we forget the voting debaucle of 2000 where so many votes weren't even COUNTED...and re-election of Dub-ya in 2004 simply because of the Fear Factor campaign of 9/11..when is this mudslinging going to end?? It is such an insult to
intelligent, free-thinking Americans. THAT is the true crime here !!!

Once again they mislead. He wanted to end the war, so he stood his ground voted no because there was no provision in the bill to end it. By the way – most Democrats voted FOR it. So once again, McCain lies because he said last night that Obama never goes against his party. I can't wait to vote for Obama/Biden and see them in office!

Mrs. McCain, why couldn't Michelle Obama shake your hand last night; oh, I guess she wasn't 'proud enough.'

…she simply turned her back on you, the way Obama turns his towards the American Flag…"

REALLY? you might try to spit out some more recent GOP talking points...or stop watching Pat Robertson so much. The flag pin/pledge of allegiance thing was debunked months ago. Try another tactic to distract from the fact that your candidate is out of touch, has poor judgement, a bad temper and picked a fruitcake for his running mate.
    Obama/Biden '08 and '12!

That's nice, now Cindy is entering the fray. So, because he was looking for a timeline, he wasn't thinking of the troops?

Also, I love how they are calling Obama a liar.....smells like desperation.

McCain got whipped in the debate. This thing is over.

Why does CNN feel they have to get tougher on McCain when McCain get's tougher on O'Bama?

Why does O'Bama need CNN to fight his battles. Half of American voters are not convinced O'Bama is the better candidate. Why then does CNN turn it's back on millions of people who want to hear both sides.

It is truly scary how the McCain campaign and surrogates are inciting such fear and threats among their supporters. In recent campaign stops, McCain supporters have been heard yelling, 'Terrorist' and 'Kill him'. The Secret Service is currently investigating the 'Kill him' threat against Obama or Ayres. We deserve better from our leaders.

I trust Obama will increase his focus on the severe economic and security issues that confront us.

Cindy is not the brightest light on the tree...maybe she is starting to believe some of the lies repeated and repeated at her husband's rallies. Even though the have been proved at lies, if they are told over and over again, and you hear them over and over again, the begin to sound familiar.

How disingenuous! The issue was NOT funding the troops. The issue was whether a timeline for withdrawal would be included in the bill. Obama voted for the version with a timeline, and against the version without one. McCain voted for the version without the timeline, and McCAIN VOTED AGAINST the one with a timeline. So her husband's votes should have been just as chilling to Cindy as was Obama's.

This is a great example of how desperate the McCain/Palin campaign is becoming, and how deceitful they have become. Even Cindy.

I tried to think of another word to use...but there is just no other one that does it justice...Hypocrites! How dare you lie to me like that and pretend that your husband is innocent. We ALL know that he didn't vote to not fund the troops...he voted against a lot of irresponsible and damaging things, but not the troops. Don't you dare try to pull that crap on us. We are too intelligent to let you get away with that. Take your false attacks and go back to Arizona. No one wants you in the white house.

Both Sarah and Cindy should have been put on a short leash. Neither knows "squat" about anything important. They should have been made to stand there and look pretty like a good little Republican wife does. Except Sarah needs to bleach her hair.

I liked her better when she was on drugs. She made more sense then. If we are going to elect people married to drug addicts I can suggest a number of better prospects.

The McCain campaign would do well to follow Ed Rollins advice and spend the rest of the campaign patiently outlining their program to solve the economic crisis. McCain could build on the initiative he laid out in last nights debate, namely the idea of helping home owners with bad mortgages refinance their debt.

The attack strategy that Cindy McCain and Sarah Palin is unleashing is a big turn off for many and a source of disappointment for those who thought McCain was a different kind of politician. It also shows the McCain crew to be erratically grasping at phony issues and reinforces the charge that they have no new ideas of their own.

Well, I guess it's Halloween because the witches are out.

It's getting ugly because John is bringing out the big guns–his women. First he trots out Sarah Ping Pong Palin who is as dumb as lint, then he brings out Barbie who is so stupid she allows her husband to call her the "c" word.

We're shaking in our boots John, really.

I find it interesting that Cryptkeeper McCain ignores the fact that her hubby voted TO SEND HER SONS to Iraq in the first place, and was AGAINST ANY TIMELINES TO BRING THEM HOME. Total hypocrasy.

    to "Go Cindy"

I suggest you read up on McCains record concerning this matter or better yet, read some of the blogs of people on this board who are a lot more informed than you. A couple of different veterans groups have given Mr. McCain low marks on his record concerning their interest. Futhermore, Mrs. Obama probably didn't shake Mrs McCain's hands because she didn't want any of the slim the McCains are waddling in on her hands. We got our futures at stake, our childrens future and all silly people like you can do is babble about flag pins, pathetic.
