NRA endorses McCain-Palin ticket

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/07/art.macpalwave1007.gi.jpg caption="A powerful gun rights groups has announced it will endorse Sen. John McCain and Gov. Sarah Palin."]
(CNN) – The National Rifle Association said Thursday it plans to endorse Sen. John McCain and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, citing Sen. Barack Obama's "anti-gun record."

"We will encourage gun owners, hunters and anyone who values freedom to vote McCain-Palin on November 4," Wayne LaPierre, the NRA's Executive Vice President, said in the statement.

Obama has been on poor terms with gun rights advocates, especially since his controversial remarks about rural residents of Pennsylvania were disclosed before the Pennsylvania Democratic primary. Obama lost to Sen. Hillary Clinton in that race despite investing substantial time campaigning in the battleground state.

The U.S. Supreme Court held for the first time in June of this year that the Second Amendment of the Constitution protects an individual right to own and carry a gun.

"Not surprising – but I was a Republican who was supporting Obama….but hearing the positions they are offering…which I don't support….I just couldn't….socialism is not the answer….(unless the question was…how to wreck this country)"

When someone reads this type of comment, one wonders where these sorts of people have been for the past 8 years as America's image continues to go down hill!!!

Fact: this country's image has been wrecked by leaders who are not educated; they fight for only guns!

  7. Hunter from Wisconsin

My husband and I are both gun owners from Wisconsin.......who are fervently supporting and voting for OBAMA/BIDEN!!!!

As Barack Obama has stated numerous times, he has NO interest in taking guns away from *law* abiding citizens, including hunters.

We have rifles and shotguns to hunt game animals because they are a food source for our family. That's it. We don't collect guns or use them to shoot people.

My husband is about as redneck as people come, and he feels VERY strongly that there is nothing wrong with making sure that there are laws/policies/systems in place to protect those of us who are responsible gun owners and other citizens who choose not to own a gun from criminals and/or the mentally disturbed who may choose to use a gun for illegal purposes.

This news comes as a complete and total shock. I would never have guessed by the kind words they have been sending Obama's way lately that they would be endorsing McCain.

The right to own a gun is a COnstitutional amendment. Of course you Liberals are in the practice of urinating on the Constitution so of course you do not understand or support the NRA. You also want to limit the freedom of speech by shutting down Conservative talk radio. If Liberals cannot spread their crazy beliefs to certain sectors then they try to shut them down. They are cowards.

We're gonna need our guns cause if McCain gets elected we're going back to a hunting/gathering economy. America will be so broke, we'll be looking to Alaska to supply us with moose meat to survive!

This is news? Doesn't the NRA just have a blanket endorsement in place for all Republicans?

  19. Old White Guy

What astonishes me is that the leadership of the NRA doesn't seem to care about their members who are going broke under the McCain/Bush economic plan.

    HOW DUMB CAN YOU GET?

What a surprise! My friends, patriot McCain knows how to catch Bin Ladend and he knows how to fix the economy but he will not tell us and he will keep us "prisoners" until we elect him president so Sarah Palin can be subsequently beccome President and now the NRA is providing Palin/McCain the guns to keep us "prisoners". Seems perfectly consistent

  22. The Clear Thinking Voter

    This is HARDLY NEWS .....

The NRA has ZERO credibility with the folks that are currently undecided. This endorsement is not worth very much at this point.

America, vote for the team that is truly qualified ... with a qualified back up should something happen to the Number 1 guy.

Vote for the smart guys that can proactively address troubling situations BEFORE they become a CRISIS.

America, vote your hopes, not your fears.

    Vote for THAT ONE.

I challange anyone to find a Democrat that the NRA has ever endorsed. They will back a republican with a less sympathitic voting record than a democrat with perfect agreement to their policies....speaking from personal experience.....so what's the surprise here?????
