Obama purchasing 30 minutes of network airtime

(CNN) - Barack Obama is buying 30 minutes of airtime on the major television networks just days before the presidential election, the Obama campaign confirms.

Sources with the Obama campaign say half hour blocks have been purchased on Wednesday, October 29 on CBS and NBC.  The campaign is also in negotiations with Fox, though that day will conflict with the World Series if there is a game 6.

The buy was first reported by the Hollywood reporter earlier Thursday.

Evan Tracey of Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on ad spending, said it was unclear how much the blocs of air would cost, but noted 30 seconds alone in primetime usually runs between $80,000 and $125,000.

"This is a big platform, this is a big megaphone, the interest level is clearly there and people will watch," Tracey said.

FINALLY a reasonable and personable way to spend campaign dollars! Regardless of your political affiliation, it's nice to see money being spent on TV spots that aren't simply smear campaigns ( I hope).

I wonder if McCain will blow his budget trying to keep up with Obama? What a great Tactic Obama is using or is it a strategy?

IT IS AMAZING TO SEE ALL THE NEW IDEAS THE OBAMA CAMPAIGN HAS BROUGHT TO THIS ELECTION..FROM THE DATABASE THAT HOLDS MILLIONS OF NAMES OF OBAMA SUPPORTERS, TO THE WAY THE VOLUNTEERS ARE OUT REGISTERING PEOPLE...AND NOW THIS. NO ONE CAN SAY THAT OBAMA IS NOT HIP.

I THINK THIS IS GREAT...NEW IDEAS IS WHAT WE NEED. OUT WITH THE OLD INCLUDING MCCAIN, IN WITH THE NEW.

I think that is a brilliant move. To be able to spend 30 minutes with the american public without a 1 or 2 minute time limit is exactly what the campaign needs to do. He can explain himself on every subject without Mccain snickering in the background. Obama wants to be president and that's the difference.

My husband and I both will be voting Democrat this year. Anyone who cannot see through McCain and Palin's lies are just beyond hope. We just hope the majority of Americans see the same.

LOL it cracks me up to see someone actually say they are rooting for McCain 2008 and Hillary 2012. These two candidates are totally opposite from one another on EVERYTHING. It's like saying I am against abortion in 2008 but will be for it in 2012. Sometimes my eyes can't believe the things I read out of people's mouths.

He will need it to clear up all of the negative things that McCain and Palin are putting out there to frighten people, especically women, who they seem think can't think on their own.

30 minutes, that's enough time to come clean about all his Chicago/Illinois allies. Why Obama is so secretive about his days at Colmbia and Harvard University? Why he hide his thesis from both schools? Why his campaign tried to hide the $800,000 they gave ACRON to register voters?

I am so proud of Barack Hussenin Obama. I say his middle name out respect for a man who had no choice in his name or color. He has ran the most well organized campagin. A campgain that can stick to the issues and win the poeple's heart. John McCain is running the sleaziest campagin I've seen. He claims to be a war hero but when I look at him, all I see is a coward. A coward who can't look a man in the eyes and tell him to his face what he REALLY thinks about him. A coward who would hide behind a womens skirt too do his dirty work. A coward whose second wife has shown no better JUDGEMENT during this election, than he did by leaving his first wife for her. I do not believe that John McCain thinks that Barack is a terrorist. I think that the people running his campgain has convinced him that that is what it takes to win. The fact that he can't take control of his own campgain makes him the biggest COWARD of all.
