Obama purchasing 30 minutes of network airtime

(CNN) - Barack Obama is buying 30 minutes of airtime on the major television networks just days before the presidential election, the Obama campaign confirms.

Sources with the Obama campaign say half hour blocks have been purchased on Wednesday, October 29 on CBS and NBC.  The campaign is also in negotiations with Fox, though that day will conflict with the World Series if there is a game 6.

The buy was first reported by the Hollywood reporter earlier Thursday.

Evan Tracey of Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on ad spending, said it was unclear how much the blocs of air would cost, but noted 30 seconds alone in primetime usually runs between $80,000 and $125,000.

"This is a big platform, this is a big megaphone, the interest level is clearly there and people will watch," Tracey said.

Obama turns down campaign financing so that Hollywood can fund his campaign. The country is in a financial crisis and he chooses to waste money on TV airtime. How can people view this as a positive move. It shows, in my opinion, a mismanagement of funds and hopefully the American public will see through it. Obama is all about grandstanding and being the center of attention. I truly feel sorry for all the people voting for Obama simply because they think he will be able to enact all of his programs next year. Please wake up from your instant gratification fantasy soon. There will be no tax cuts next year.

LOL it cracks me up to see someone actually say they are rooting for McCain 2008 and Hillary 2012. These two candidates are totally opposite from one another on EVERYTHING. It's like saying I am against abortion in 2008 but will be for it in 2012. Sometimes my eyes can't believe the things I read out of people's mouths.

While McCain is grousing about earmarks like Captain Queeg going on about missing strawberries–

while George W. Bush, the MBA President, is hiding under his desk and wondering how he can get a golden parachute and land back on his ranch in Crawford–

while even Grover Norquist and Dick Cheney are thinking maybe the country wouldn't be in such a mess if they'd paid some taxes and invested in the country instead of trying to hoard it all for themselves and their families–

Barack Obama, instead of resting on his lead, shows the courage to step forward and face the American people in these difficult times.

    Rather Presidential, don't you think?

Cool! Is he going to spill the beans about how he wrote a paper in law school arguing that whitey should pay reparations to blacks? Or how his mentor Jeremiah Wright is an anti-semite? Or how he frequently chummed around with Rashid Khalidi, a devout anti-semite?

I like black folks, but not radical ones who hate whitey.

Very good idea to purchase the air time. I don't know how long his campaign has had this planned, but it's a good follow-up to the fear/smear tactics his opponents have employed recently.

I hear some really dumb remarks made here in Arkansas. "They just haven't heard enough from either of them". It's only been 19 months! Anyway, I watched Obama's TV time and it's great. Obama has used his resources wisely. Just like he will lead this country! I have given more to this campaign, than all the others combined. This is the most important elections every held. If McShame get in the White House, there will be nothing left of this country. He want to cut social security and medicare/medicaid. These people don't have enough to even buy proper food of medicine. SHAME ON HIM! He doesn't have a clue how the real people live in this country. It is just too scary to imagine.

PLEASE HELP SAVE THE COUNTRY! VOTE OBAMA/ BIDEN- (The smart ones)

First off, there are still SOME bigoted people, primarily older white people, who can not seem to get past the way things used to be. Sorry to inform them, but we ARE NOT going back to the days of Jim Crow of the segregated south! So get over it , grow up, or get gone! As a young African-American male, I have not seen or experience much racism directly. But, that doesn't mean that I have seen some of it. I absolutely refuse to go through the racial mess that my parents or grandparents went through. I shouldn’t have to! Our generation is one that is trying to get past all of the ugly things from our past in America. This ugly past is shared by whites, blacks, brown, and every one in between. Whites and Blacks are now standing hand in hand to resolve our issues of race that have plagued this country. Barack Obama has given, not just Blacks, but ALL people the hope that we need in order to press forward from the days of old here in America. The racism and bigotry has got to stop. The fact that there are people who will not vote for a black man just because of his skin color is not a reflection of America, but a reflection on THAT PERSON'S IGNORANCE and HATRED. Believe it or not, the old generation that continues to think in these negative ways, along with continuing to breed this negativity in the current generation, are slowly and surely dieing off and leaving this world. God will no longer stand for it. The American people as a whole will no longer stand for it! Barack Obama gives SO many people hope. Just listen to the songs that many artists and stars have written about him. They are inspiring and heart felt. Do you hear any beautiful, inspirational songs about John McCain? No! You hear this country-sounding, “Raisin' McCain” garbage that, even in its delivery, has a negative tone. So, to the racist whites AND blacks AND brown folk out there, you are going to have to get over it. Barack Obama WILL BE our next president of the United States. The good-ol-boy mentality and its regime that has been primarily dominated by the older whites is DEAD. News to the older generation of racist (white) folks: YOU DON'T OWN AMERICA ANY MORE! And for the ones that continue to harp on Obama's name, if you read your CHRISTIAN bible (as many of them claim to be Christians yet they hate their own brother and sister of different races) they would know that the word BARACK means PRAISE!!! The name literally means PRAISE! Praise to God. Praise to the God of our nation and the God of the World, the father of Jesus Christ! So, as you read this, yes there may be some typos...if that's all you can find, then the point has gone over your head and you REFUSE to change or become enlightened by your own choice. However, if you continue to refuse, you will surely get LEFT BEHIND as the rest of us in America will continue to move forward with a leader who gives us hope, who has vision, and who has been ordained and chosen by God for such a time as this. And to bash this post FURTHER displays your ignorance...and every tongue that rises up against the truth shall be condemned. Don't believe it? Go read the book. My love is for EVERY person. We share a commonality that stretches past us being Americans. We are human beings. We are God’s children. Barack Obama…THE NEXT PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA! Has a great ring to it!

I will be sending Obama 100.00 towards his air time. Mccain and palin are shamful people who have the nerve to call themselves christians!!!!! The republicans are desperate and will not even stop their supporters from yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" at their rallies. That is absolutely disgusting.

  21. Who is Sarah Palin anyway?

So much for not providing details on things.

Imagine if McCain and Palin had to fill five minutes with anything but canned speeches.

It is one thing to mislead the American public in a debate or media sound-bites, but it is quite another for Mr. Obama to stretch his machinations and fabrications into a thirty minute info-mercial. If Mr. Obama and his campaign wish to continue his media free-ride, less exposure is probably the key. We have heard it all before and this sort of egotistical spectacle will only make him look even more cartoonish. He thinks very highly of himself, doesn’t he.

What a brilliant move by the Obama campaign to purchase air time. Always steps ahead of McCain. Obama is brilliant, cool and remains focused on the issues – a true statesman. McCain is a mean spirited failure of a politician. An angry old man who has lost control. It is definitely reflected in his campaign rallies. These rallies have morphed into angry mobs screaming insults, racial slurs. It would not shock me to see a cross burning there!
