Obama purchasing 30 minutes of network airtime

(CNN) - Barack Obama is buying 30 minutes of airtime on the major television networks just days before the presidential election, the Obama campaign confirms.

Sources with the Obama campaign say half hour blocks have been purchased on Wednesday, October 29 on CBS and NBC.  The campaign is also in negotiations with Fox, though that day will conflict with the World Series if there is a game 6.

The buy was first reported by the Hollywood reporter earlier Thursday.

Evan Tracey of Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on ad spending, said it was unclear how much the blocs of air would cost, but noted 30 seconds alone in primetime usually runs between $80,000 and $125,000.

"This is a big platform, this is a big megaphone, the interest level is clearly there and people will watch," Tracey said.

How many will still call him a liar. I got a idea lets get McCain buy some time on TV and tell the truth.......better yet put a lie detector on both and let the nation see who is lying..........

    I agree. I think it's a brilliant move.

And McCain can't counter. His campaign knows NO ONE could stand to listen to him ramble on for a full 30 minutes. Besides, he'd have to stop to take a nap!
Then what? Sarah "I'm a cute hockey mom" Palin gonna fill the rest of the time? UGH! Channels would be switching all over the country once the "old windbag" and the "windtunnel" start talking.

Keep it up Barack, and don't utilize any of the Hollywood schmucks who like to attach their persona to your campaign. You've done it with the help of tens of thousands of regular people who want to kick the GOP OUT of power.

Hurray! Guess I'll donate some money to the campaign today!!

Why not, let McCain and his supporters talk about Ayers, while the economy is going to the dogs under 8 years of republican leadership in the whitehouse.

    To "Wow"

Why would media buys turn people off?

This is nothing new and is not without precedent – but right now I am not sure anyone knows what they want anymore - we are just frustrated. My mutual funds and IRA are worth about as much as the paper that I print them on.

  15. Palin/Stalin?

Republicans are bleeding..... They never thought anyone had guts to fight all the way. By the way does anyone know if Palin and Stalin have anything in common?? I wonder, let me know.

  16. VA Voter

The coming landslide of pathetic whining posts from the "The ONLY thing that matters is the GOP–screw our country" crowd should be hilarious to read. The DEMOCRATIC candidate is CRUSHING the GOP candidate this year. People who put their country first are disgusted with Bush, McCain, and the idiot Barbie Doll JOhnny Fly Boy picked to try to hoodwink women and gullible "blue collar" guys.

This is brilliant strategy. It is amazing how anyone is not a supporter of Obama. I have already contributed to his campaign and I plan on giving more. This is a great use of my money! Thank you and keep up the good work.

  19. I am in Canada

I think that will be the time he reveals his real plans in details (because McCain will not be able to scoop up his ideas on time)
    Smart moves

I hope he takes that time to talk about who he intends to ask to be in his cabinet.

He'll pick Dems, moral Republicans (obviously that leaves out McCain and Palin) and independents. He has proven that he surrounds himself with the best and brightest, and I'd love to see him do this in advance of the election. Can you imagine how many more independents and Republicans he could win over with intelligent, reasonable cabinet picks??

McCain is an angry, volitile old man who suffers from EED (Enlarged Ego Disease) He is a man who called the North Vietnamese "Gooks" up until just a few years ago. He backhanded a woman (a relative of a missing soldier in Vietnam) and was written up on charges for it. He is a gambler in every sense of the word. Not to be trusted.

I not only expect, but hope that McCain will copy this move by Obama. I believe at the last debate, both candidates displayed a lack of knowledge on the others position on various issues and even though I find the McCain campaign to be endorsing a hateful social policy at their most recent rallies...I still want to give him a chance. Believe me, that is all that he's getting from me. He most certainily will not have my support or my precious vote

Oh someone needs to tell Cindy McCain that Obama cant change shoes with her for a day..he couldnt afford the price of the shoes you wear lol. Gawd, this woman sounds so dumb. Scarey. No wonder her and Palin get along.
