Obama purchasing 30 minutes of network airtime

(CNN) - Barack Obama is buying 30 minutes of airtime on the major television networks just days before the presidential election, the Obama campaign confirms.

Sources with the Obama campaign say half hour blocks have been purchased on Wednesday, October 29 on CBS and NBC.  The campaign is also in negotiations with Fox, though that day will conflict with the World Series if there is a game 6.

The buy was first reported by the Hollywood reporter earlier Thursday.

Evan Tracey of Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on ad spending, said it was unclear how much the blocs of air would cost, but noted 30 seconds alone in primetime usually runs between $80,000 and $125,000.

"This is a big platform, this is a big megaphone, the interest level is clearly there and people will watch," Tracey said.

My first thought is that he will be talking about his plans for his presidency, like a fireside chat, since people say he's aloof and not connecting with voters. I'm sure McCain folks and supporting pundits will call it presumptuous. But if McCain can "suspend" his campaign, why not this?

But why include Fox? People who hadn't made up their minds on who to vote wouldn't be tuning into Fox right now, right?!!

I think "THAT ONE" is running a well managed campaign and staying on subject. It is clear he has surrounded himself with smart people and that is a sign of the level of his own intelligence to do that. A really smart person seeks out smart people.

I think there is a lesson to be learned here by Senator McCain.

I hope he doesn't think he needs the extra time. It would be a terrible shame if he did something to himself.

With Obama as President, he will lead us in a new direction and he will let the American people know the issues and what's going to be done about it as they occur.

Obama will not be like BUSH, who only comes out from under the bed once or twice a year to just blab in front of the camera, making no sense whatsoever.

Obama will be very honest and open with the people.

Time for Americans that really do put "country first" and demand an end to the attacks on Obama's patriotism. No matter what side you are on this is inflammatory and untrue. America politics have become pathetic as the country sinks into recession while the McCain camp sinks lower and lower into third world politics.

So brilliant! Has this ever been done before? I'm only 21 so I don't have a long history of elections to look back on.

  24. Ex-Republican for Obama

Ardent fan of Obama here, but it will be fodder for the freaks that are afraid of how convincing of a leader he is. The only thing to fear, is fear itself.

Yes, I'm afraid of McCain being president, and I'm even more afraid of it now that I realize I'm afraid of it. Because not much scares me!

I heard they crossed a pitbull with a Sarah Palin. Turns out that it bites you, leaving you with a nasty lipstick stain (fortunately no blood) and then runs for help. If it really gets psychotic, it shoots you from a helicopter. Not to worry though, it seldomly leaves it's house.
