Obama purchasing 30 minutes of network airtime

(CNN) - Barack Obama is buying 30 minutes of airtime on the major television networks just days before the presidential election, the Obama campaign confirms.

Sources with the Obama campaign say half hour blocks have been purchased on Wednesday, October 29 on CBS and NBC.  The campaign is also in negotiations with Fox, though that day will conflict with the World Series if there is a game 6.

The buy was first reported by the Hollywood reporter earlier Thursday.

Evan Tracey of Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on ad spending, said it was unclear how much the blocs of air would cost, but noted 30 seconds alone in primetime usually runs between $80,000 and $125,000.

"This is a big platform, this is a big megaphone, the interest level is clearly there and people will watch," Tracey said.

from a media buying standpoint, it's a good move reaching a nationwide audience days before they're set to make a major decision. sources say his most successful commercial was a 2-minute piece where he was talking directly to the camera detailing his plans. this could succeed in really telling his story. good tactic in overall strategy.

Fox might not be able to air it if conflicts with the World Series.

Hey, McCain was right about the surge...

Obama should give him a position as a joint Cheif of Staff.

I can't wait to see and hear the next president on October 29th! I'm almost certain that McCain will try to purchase airtime now. A typical follower McCain is...

Hollywood must truly be embracing this. Will I be able to do a search for it on my cable box menu? What will it be under–sitcom, docudrama, news, variety, reality?

To everyone who has contributed to either campaign...aren't you proud of where your hard earned money is being spent? Remember that when you can't make a bill payment or buy food for your family. But, then again, you will probably find a way to blame someone else for it.

This is what all the Candidates have purchase campaign spots on TV in the past. Why should this be any different?

Since when do you recall 'NOT 'seeing campaigning spots on TV just days before any presidential election?

Excellent campaign strategy. I hope voters that are considering doing nothing or think that their votes do not count are inspired to excercise their right to vote.

Well, Sen McCain it appears that Sen Obama does know the difference between a strategy and a tactic. On 5 NOV 08, a tactic should be clear to you.

Im waiting for McCain to do the same.... if he can just remember what Television is. Maybe thats what he was looking for during the debate, instead of "puddles" his lost dog (as The Daily Show so eloquently put).

I'm a strong Obama supporter...I hope that 30 minutes is packed full of specifics on moving the country forward. If it does, it will be a landslide victory.

Obama is busy doing what it takes to win an election. While McClueless and his clueless sidekick are spreading negativity. In the end, intelligent and decent Americans will make the right choice.

    Putting down the hammer indeed.

Barack is talking issues while McCain and co. are firing blanks that didnt work 9 months ago, and definitely wont work now.

I think American appreciate straight talk about policy decisions in a 90 second ad, with specific details, more than black and white scare mongering about someone's character. Because thats all the GOP are doing at this point.

excellent! i was hoping he would do this. he will have the chance to speak to the american people in a sustained format that allows him to spell out who he is and where he wants to take the country. this is in contrast to mccain strategy that seems to be trying to produced as many decietful and false sound bites as possible and say them often enough so that people don't pay attention to the man behind the curtain.

I will be making another campaign donation tonight, it's been tough to give the max allowed but I consider it money well spent. Barack Obama has run a skillful and dignified campaign for 19 months despite the slings and arrows. I have no doubt he will run the country the same way.

If I were a Mccain supporter I would be demanding a refund.
