Obama purchasing 30 minutes of network airtime

(CNN) - Barack Obama is buying 30 minutes of airtime on the major television networks just days before the presidential election, the Obama campaign confirms.

Sources with the Obama campaign say half hour blocks have been purchased on Wednesday, October 29 on CBS and NBC.  The campaign is also in negotiations with Fox, though that day will conflict with the World Series if there is a game 6.

The buy was first reported by the Hollywood reporter earlier Thursday.

Evan Tracey of Campaign Media Analysis Group, CNN's consultant on ad spending, said it was unclear how much the blocs of air would cost, but noted 30 seconds alone in primetime usually runs between $80,000 and $125,000.

"This is a big platform, this is a big megaphone, the interest level is clearly there and people will watch," Tracey said.

This will be a great opportunity for him to not only make a reasoned statement about whatever the situation is closer to the election (it seems to be changing on a daily basis, mostly for the worse as far as the economy is concerned) but also to address logically and thoughtfully whatever last-minute Swift-boating gets pulled out of the GOP (or 527s) hats in a last ditch, desperate attempt to smear Obama and swing any as-yet-undecided voters. Very, very smart. This should be far more effective than whatever defense can be mustered in a one-minute debate rebuttal. I don't think Obama has been very good at defending himself or his record when he's attacked in the debates – partly because a nuanced answer requires more time than he is given. Most viewers seem able to recognize this, and everybody knows about factcheck.com now, so it doesn't seem to have hurt him much. I wonder, though, whether anyone truly against him will bother to watch the half-hour spot. On the other hand, it doesn't really matter because they've already made up their minds.

outstanding. in that one half hour, he will have his own town hall meeting, a unique opportunity for people at the last minute to hear his voice and see his presence. And it will be a great reminder to all of us that we need to get out and vote. Plus, he can address all of McCain's negative nonsense.

    Very aggressive stuff!

Please use this time to say that Americans are disgusted with what the Republicans have done to and with our suffering Nation. And what does the next Republican Emperor offer? Lies, negative attacks, pandering and incompetance. His new plan (stolen from Hillary) to buy all the Nations Bad Mortgages. Is just another shamefull ploy for the Republicans to Bail out their Billionaire Corporate Banker Masters.
McSame wants to give these Corporate Crooks, 300 Billion more tax dollars to cover their loses caused from their own greed and avarice.
And what did these Corporate scum do with the last Bail Out tax dollars. A bunch of them flew to a Luxury Resort and blew 400 Thousand Dollars to include 23 Thousand Dollars in Manicures.
This is McInsane!!! Enough America !!! Please Enough!!

The pen is mightier than the sword
With Obama, the emphasis will be education of children to prepare them to face the world, but with Mc Cain we need to prepare them to go to war that he still want ot fight because he is still pissed off about his prisoner of war days. He wants us all to pay.

To all the people who are trying to defend obama and say he isnt socialist..you obviously are blind. Obama clearly has socialist ideals. Universal healthcare (Healthcare for everyone) The government is gonna do this, the governments gonna do that. That is socialism. Whenever you give everyone everything and control what people can have and cant have, that's socialist, and ur simply a liar if you can't agree with that.

It's great strategy from perhaps the smartest presidential campaign team we may have ever seen. Much smarter by the way than Karl Rove, who simply resorted to sleaze to get 50.1 percent of the vote. That kind of strategy really doesn't require much smarts–just a great deal of moral bankruptcy.

I wonder if McCain will show up so he can continually walk behind Obama like he did while Obama was responding at the Nashville debates. You'll note that when Obama was finished speaking he went back to his stool and remained there!

Just kidding, of course, but here is where Obama lays the smackdown on Grumpy POW and Caribou Barbie!

This man and his campaign are SO brilliant!! I'm so impressed with Obama, especially because he has said since the beginning that he was going to run a smart, HONEST campaign and so far, he has. A man with integrity. McCain started off being a real good man, a man with morals and values but somehow, he has lost all that was good. I blame it on the lure of power. Poor man.

And now, to the future!! Go Obama! Yes We Can!
