Watchdog group seeks ethics investigation of McCain

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/09/art.macup1009.ap.jpg caption="An ethics watchdog group has asked the Senate to investigate whether Sen. McCain failed to disclose gambling winnings."]
(CNN) – Ethics watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, commonly referred to as “CREW,” has requested that the Senate Ethics Committee investigate whether Sen. John McCain failed to disclose gambling earnings as required by federal law and the Senate’s own rules.

Click here to read CREW's request

Citing recent press reports, CREW alleges that McCain failed to disclose income earned from gambling on the personal financial disclosure forms he’s required to file as a senator. “Given Sen. McCain’s history of gambling on a regular basis over the years, it is nearly impossible to imagine that he never won over $200, the amount that triggers the reporting requirement,” CREW’s request says.

In the event the Senate Ethics Committee finds that McCain failed to disclose any gambling earnings, the watchdog group asks that the matter be turned over to the Department of Justice for a criminal investigation into whether McCain knowingly and willfully failed to disclose any winnings.

The McCain campaign has not responded yet to CNN’s request for comment about CREW’s request for an investigation.

  7. MarioB. from Berlin for OBAMA/BIDEN

    oops Mr. McCain.
Well I'd be glad, if this is all about economy.
I don't care about McSame, being part of Keating anything, as less as I care about Mr. President Obama, who was working together with a "terrorist" of the 60's... guys come on
Well I don't know if this investigation makes any sense, but if he did so willingly, sure, there has to be a criminal investigation, but, yeah, I hope America doesn't need McCain in a criminal investigation AND his running mate also in a investigation, to be smart enough, to vote for CHANGE, real HONOR, real PLANS, and the BEST FUTURE for THIS GENERATION AND FOLLOWING GENERATIONS!
And this can only be BARACK H. OBAMA + JOE BIDEN!

    Obama/Biden in a landslide!

What goes around, comes around. With the way he has been acting on the campaign trail, I think it would be fair game to point out that, while he was not found guilty of criminal activities, he did not learn a thing from the "Keating Five" affair and still supported, and supports today, the relaxation of government oversight of banking practices. Which is, of course, what got all of them in trouble in the first place. Experience only matters if you can learn something from it.

Perhaps Senator McCain is a really bad gambler and has never won over $200. Based on his resent campaign gambles, this should not be that hard to believe.
