Report: Palin abused power, violated ethics code in trooper case

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/10/art.palin03.gi.jpg caption="Report: Palin ‘abused her power’"] ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) - Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor and a violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired from the state police, a state investigator's report concluded Friday.

"Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan's refusal to fire State Trooper Mike Wooten from the state police force was "likely a contributing factor" to Monegan's July dismissal, but Palin had the authority as governor to sack him, the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower states. However, it states that her efforts to get Wooten fired broke a state ethics law that bars public officials from pursuing personal interest through official action.

Monegan has said he was fired in July after refusing pressure to sack Wooten, who had gone through an acrimonious divorce and custody battle with Palin's sister. Palin and her husband, Todd, have consistently denied any wrongdoing, describing Wooten as a "rogue trooper" who had threatened their family - allegations Branchflower discounted.

"I conclude that such claims of fear were not bona fide and were offered to provide cover for the Palins' real motivation: to get Trooper Wooten fired for personal family reasons," Branchflower wrote.

Palin is a despicable, dishonest human being. She is clearly unfit for any office. What a joke!

Palin is a joke. McSame is worthless. There is no way an intelligent thinking person could ever possibly consider the McSame/Stalin ticket worthy of a vote.

I've been waiting for this day for a long time.

Palin is obviously not ready to be Vice President.

Sen McCain has lost his credibility in this race for President. His selection of Gov Palin, a novice in politics is proving each day to show a lack of judgment on his part. With the current domestic situation and our involvement in two wars, can the United States afford a President that does not have good judgement?

Let us all elect John McCain as our President and Sarah Palin as our Vice President; both have been reprimanded for ethics violation. We should all be very proud of them; they are both certainly Real Mavericks!

In addition they will represent us in front of the world like no one else, particularly when the whole world ids doubting about the ethical standards of our financial institutions.

Impeach! That is what would happen if she were doing the same thing in the office of President of the U.S.

She has no ethics, yet is an ethics reformer? Perhaps that's her whole idea............O.o

The best example of leadership and living up to the motto of "Country First" would be for this power hungry broad to step down. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you apparently is something Sarah Palin pushes aside more often than not. How hypocritical for so called Christian women to see themselves in her. Do they see themselves and liars, racially divisive, above God and the law? Maybe they all need to open the Bible and start reading again, because Sarah Palin does not live by any standard of Christian living.

For those women who look at Sarah Palin as a role model for their daughters, now take a really good look. She has made a mockery out of women in politics by proving that not only men can be dishonest and power hungry. And the shame is that there are so many qualified, hard working women in politics today who could have been the real deal if McCain had an ounce of respect for women at all and chose a VP candidate who had earned the nomination.

Sarah Palin, you redeemed yourself in the VP debate, but then why did you go negative? Clueless in one thing, but hateful? People will run away from you. You are not speaking to a small group of people who agrees w/ you, you are being broadcasted all over the world, and people get to see the anger/hate w/ in you. And once, you let that get into you, you are no longer stable, and once you're unstable, you are unable to make a good decision. Anger and hate clouds your judgment.

It's too bad that the Alaska Legislature is mostly Republican. Otherwise, there would be enough votes to get this thug in heels impeached!! Great pick, McCain!

This is VERY embarrasing. Ms. Palin should not be running as a VP. What kind of an example is she giving. Senator McCain: You made a terrible mistake in choosing Sarah – sorry
