Report: Palin abused power, violated ethics code in trooper case

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/10/art.palin03.gi.jpg caption="Report: Palin ‘abused her power’"] ANCHORAGE, Alaska (CNN) - Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin abused her power as Alaska's governor and a violated state ethics law by trying to get her ex-brother-in-law fired from the state police, a state investigator's report concluded Friday.

"Governor Palin knowingly permitted a situation to continue where impermissible pressure was placed on several subordinates in order to advance a personal agenda," the report states.

Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan's refusal to fire State Trooper Mike Wooten from the state police force was "likely a contributing factor" to Monegan's July dismissal, but Palin had the authority as governor to sack him, the report by former Anchorage prosecutor Stephen Branchflower states. However, it states that her efforts to get Wooten fired broke a state ethics law that bars public officials from pursuing personal interest through official action.

Monegan has said he was fired in July after refusing pressure to sack Wooten, who had gone through an acrimonious divorce and custody battle with Palin's sister. Palin and her husband, Todd, have consistently denied any wrongdoing, describing Wooten as a "rogue trooper" who had threatened their family - allegations Branchflower discounted.

"I conclude that such claims of fear were not bona fide and were offered to provide cover for the Palins' real motivation: to get Trooper Wooten fired for personal family reasons," Branchflower wrote.

Palin doesn't feel she has done anything wrong by abusing her power as governor. What in the world is she going to do IF McCain is elected to our constitution and to our basic rights as citizens of the United States of America?

McCain and Palin are on a hate and rage campaign against Obama instead of speaking to Americans about our current economy crisis. I want to hear about the issues facing us - not a bunch of bogus lies and half-baked truths.

Please wake up America and see that McCain or Palin are NOT trustworthy enough to lead our great nation! We need to have hope not fear for our futures!!!!

If the political spin generated from this report could be hooked up to a generator, we would solve our energy problem.

John McCain and Sarah Palin stop the Slogans:

    "Country First"
    "Mavericks"
    "Straight Talk Express"
    "Reform, Prosperity, Peace"
    "A Cause Greater Than Self"

If you really mean the first slogan and the last than step down for a cause greater than yourself.

How does a State Trooper break the law, and keep his job.

I think she did the right thing, for the State of Alaska.

Surprise..surprise...we knew it all along that she was corrupt. She has lied about her past and her resume from the very beginning. She immediately began trying to blame the investigation on the Democrats when it had begun even before McCain made the stupid decision to choose her as his VP candidate. She ordered her staff to ignore subpoenas. It all pointed to her guilt and her lack of integrity. She has never been competent enough to be VP and now her "abuse of power" further disqualifies her as a viable leader. She should resign from the Republican ticket. She is incompetent, now proven to be corrupt, and women everywhere are rejecting her as an insult to their intelligence. She is a joke and it is time she go back to Alaska and try to redeem herself. She has no business being in a national campaign. She needs to leave the ticket and go clean up her messes at home.

hey, femal voter, and its female if that's what you were trying to spell, you don't use your powers on anybody you want. That's why we have a divine thing called the constitution that we as people and citizens have rights. This man did nothing wrong except not fulfill Gov. Palin's wishes of firing her brother-in-law, for this, this man lost his job over Wonder Woman's domestic issues.

So much for the "ethics reformer" feather in her cap.

    Next up:
Using private email accounts for government business
    Hiding said email accounts
Taking per diems while at home
Not declaring per diems on tax returns
Palling around with TERRORISTS in the AIP (including her husband)

Good job Senator McCain. Your judgement on the VP, Iraq and the economy all need some work.

The only problem here is we either have sarah Palin with this abuse of executive power or Biden with long dishonorable history in washington. who should we pick? Even with all the new doubts on Obama 's character. I think independent voters have no where to go but John MCcain!

McCain needs to talk about the issues. Forget about trying to bring Obama down. Tell Americans what you want to do and why you think your policies are better than Obama's. I don't want to know how idiots can be convinced to hate Obama. I want to know why you or Obama have plans to help the economy and get us out of Iraq ASAP.

And she'll be a heartbeat away from McCain? God forbid!

    S. Palin, has been telling lies all the time. She was found guilty, period. She abused her power. If you pay attention to what she says, you call tell she is a mean hard nose person. She will do anything to get ahead. She needs to be replaced as McCain's VP pick. He should have looked deeper into her back ground before picking her. What was he thinking? I guess he was thinking, he would pick any female to get Hillary's voters. One thing I can say, he did just get any body. lol Obama 08'

Who is the real Sarah Palin? Wake up America; it's right in front of you. She is a hateful and abusive individual with little to no morals. Sorry Senator McCain, your first choice as candidate doesn't qualify either of you to have the White House. My only hope is that your lynch mobs stop supporting you both.

Funny! An investigation by the far left liberals, on a conservative, reveals some abuse of power. One thing that Obama states that doesn't make sense, how does a tax on the top 10 percent create jobs? Last time I checked, those top 10 percent own 70 percent of the businesses in this country. If you raise the tax on the rich, three things will happen:
    1. outsource all jobs overseas
    2. Layoff workers to compensate for loss of revenue
    3. inflation goes up as companies raise the price of goods and services.
BTW: Small business owners do not currently pay capital gains tax, maybe somebody should tell Obama when he mentions how he will cut it when he becomes president.

Now its time to look at Alaska law and if its an impeachable offense. I am sure abuse of power is an impeachable offense and that once that has been confirmed we should begin proceedings at once.

Read the report before you judge Governor Palin!

Governor Palin's father rightly charged the trooper but stringent confidentiality rules kept him or anyone else from finding out what if anything was going on. Threats had been leveled by the trooper!

The whole case: Inquiries were interpreted as pressure! 🙁
