ROANOKE, Virginia (CNN) - The new symbol of the McCain campaign: the plunger.

As Democratic nominee Barack Obama pulled into the Roanoke Civic Center on Friday, he was greeted by the usual McCain campaign supporters that show at Obama rallies. But this time, those waving McCain-Palin signs were joined by dozens of people waving standard-issue plungers. Some wore white t-shirts emblazoned with "I AM JOE THE PLUMBER" on the front. The protesters all said they were volunteers and not paid by the McCain campaign.

The plungers serve as a reference to the 2008 campaign's latest cult personality, Joe "the Plumber" Wurzelbacher of Holland Ohio. (Joe is actually his middle name. First name: Samuel).

While the plungers emerged in Roanoke, McCain's vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin told a fundraiser in neighboring North Carolina Thursday night that she's already tired of "Joe the Plumber."

"Don't make me say Joe the Plumber, please, in any speeches," Palin said.

Plumbers voting against their economic interests. Joe the Plumber is a caricature. The real Joe is not really named Joe, is not a plumber, made 40K in 2006, and has not put a bid in for the business he wants to acquire (which only netted 100K last year, by the way). More right-wing propoganda

Shouldn't their shirts say "I am Sam, the unlicensed, back tax oweing plumber who doesn't really make $250,000 a year?"

  3. Independent for Obama!!

I guess they are not suffering at all from the economic policies of the last 8 years, so I can understand their support. I however, am not better off today than I was eight years ago and my vote goes to Obama. He has the better plan for out country and the know how to carry the plan out. I love his outlook and the way he has run his campaign, his work and attitude gives me confidence and faith in his judgment. I cannot wait till Nov 4th and those guys protesting Obama can benefit from my vote even though they may not agree with me! Thanks but no thanks to Mccain/Palin!

oh brother, another one falls for the McCain lies. I guess they didn't watch the debate when Obama said you would not be taxed unless you make 250K a year. It doesn't appear that the real Joe Plumber or any of these guys in the picture have to worry about that.

Yup and Palin is no more tired of "Joe" than we are of her! Now this boob is running around and speaking only in "pro-America area."

Palin is the most insulting and dangerous (think George Bush) boob this election season. Let's hope she's back home in Oblivion, Alaska in time for her to be ousted from the governor's mansion.

Those boys are just ignorant. If they did there research they would realize that they will recieve tax breaks under Obama's plan.

You can be quite sure they don't make over $250,00 per yr, just by looking at them!

They look as silly as all the other silly McCain supporters. And they probably don't realize that Joe the Plumber is a fraud...he isn't a plumber, he can't afford to buy the business (that doesn't make the $250,000), even if he could he would still get a tax cut, he makes 40k a year so he should be voting for Obama. So Joe the Plumber, as usual with many a McCain supporter, is misinformed (or self deluded). Sort of like their two candidates, eh?

If these guys were real plumbers, they would be working making the $20+ an hour that plumbers make. It's a good thing they have plungers, because McCain's campaign is in the toilet.

You mean these 4 guys are unlicensed, lying tax evaders?

  17. I said Thanks, but No Thanks to another 4 years of g.o.p. corruption, arrogance and incompetence

The plunger is a perfect prop for the last eight years of Bush-Cheney-McCain economic policies.

It was a plunger which was used to torture a Black Haitain immigrant in New York City.

So, waving it front of Barack Obama has other implications.

And by the way, find a real plumber to make your hero.

If you support mccain you might as well flush this country down the toilet so we'll need you guys. Is the clueless, pathological liar palin back in alaska yet? And last comment, why would people vote against their best interest just so they don't vote for a black man? How stupid and self destructive can you be? (I am a white woman by the way, and a PROUD supporter of Barack Hussein Obama!

Notice that Obama did not have them removed when protesting or supporting their personal views. Can we say the same for the McCain/Palin people?

John McCain is gaining in the polls and he almost tied with Obama. John McCain did well at the last debate by lecturing on the issues and separating himself form George Bush, so this should go well in putting John Mccain ahead in the polls in the coming days. Joe the plumber was also a great help for Mccain too.

  24. Joe the Dumb

Joe the Plumber is Joe the Dumb. The Replubicans have always reiled on stupid folks to win elections. And, I think most plumbers are really smart, but the Replubicans are experts at locating all of the dumb folks through out every profession.

We need to SHUT JOE UP. Now. Joe must be destroyed. His views have no place in a humane democracy. Obama will win this election, and use the Fairness Docterine to shut these clowns down. End Fascism, vote Obama.
