ROANOKE, Virginia (CNN) - The new symbol of the McCain campaign: the plunger.

As Democratic nominee Barack Obama pulled into the Roanoke Civic Center on Friday, he was greeted by the usual McCain campaign supporters that show at Obama rallies. But this time, those waving McCain-Palin signs were joined by dozens of people waving standard-issue plungers. Some wore white t-shirts emblazoned with "I AM JOE THE PLUMBER" on the front. The protesters all said they were volunteers and not paid by the McCain campaign.

The plungers serve as a reference to the 2008 campaign's latest cult personality, Joe "the Plumber" Wurzelbacher of Holland Ohio. (Joe is actually his middle name. First name: Samuel).

While the plungers emerged in Roanoke, McCain's vice presidential running mate Sarah Palin told a fundraiser in neighboring North Carolina Thursday night that she's already tired of "Joe the Plumber."

"Don't make me say Joe the Plumber, please, in any speeches," Palin said.

Why is CNN, once again, following McCain's talking points? Aren't you the non-biased news channel who stands for no bull or bias? Where is the honest "Anderson 360" reports? ACORN does not have any connection to votes for Obama. Why are you allowing mistruths to stand and why are you supporting them? Why aren't you reporting about voter suppresion by the Republican party which happened in 2000 and 2004? Why aren't you reporting McCain's ABSOLUTE connection to G. Gordon Liddy? On Letterman, McCain says his relationship with him is okay because the man went to jail. Are you kidding me? What about McCain receiving free cell towers from Verizon and AT&T? Where is CNN's "best news team on TV ' on these issues? Why no discussion? Talk about cover up for the Republican candidate. You should be sued by America for being a party to fraud in this election. Sickening.........

I hope unlike the last Joe the Plumber, these guys have their licenses to work on the plumbing in peoples homes and offices. I hope that they are not liers like the last Joe. McCain seems to surround himself with liers and cheaters and thieves. Shameful stuff i'd say. McCain must not know how to VET anyone and he is just a figurehead. Can you imagine having this Lier, mean spirited man and that STUPID women in the White House. I can't see them in the White House not even for a visit.

OMG MG! I just read about the violence against the Obama supporters and a rock being thrown at a camera man at a Palin rally yesterday too. What's next? A return to good old cross burngings? And there is good old Eva Braun Palin smiling and aw shucking for the camera claiming she don't know nothing. Puhleeze.

Poor guys, they kinda look like fools–duped by the McCain plan(t) to spread untruths about Obama's tax plan.
It doesn't appear any of this bunch is making six figures to me. But perhaps I am judging by the cover. . .
They'd actually do better under Obama's plan than McCain's according to neutral tax experts. . .

Joe is the typical American and that is why he is such a hit with the public. the elite leftist just can't stand it! First thing they do is smear Joe. Why not look into Obama's RADICAL friends like Wright and Ayers just to name two. Can't do that now can we? Don't want the public to hear the truth on what a bunch of socialist/Marxist these people are and what they will do to this country.

    how easily america gets distracted.

what sort of people have we become to be fooled so easily with ridiculous slogans about "joe the plumber" or whatever.

such a shame, we have fallen so low, yet we want to claim we are the best in the world.
it seems we are the best in one thing: being ignorant.

Vote Obama and let's end this mental crisis that has spread through this country like a virus.

Unpaid taxes??? No business license??? It seems McCain's ordinary American hero Joe the Plumber was vetted by the same people that vetted Sarah Palin. And where was John McCain's flag pin during the last debate??? How incredibly unpatriotic!

Apparently Sarah doesn want to talk about Joe the Plumber – since it reminds everyone of the fact that McCain clearly did NOT do a
good vetting his running mate OR Joe the wanna-be plumber.

why do these people still call him the joe the plumber. the guy has no plumbing license. he makes 42k a year, how on earth could he possibly buy the company he works for?

also that company hardly makes 100k a year. so much worry about the over 250k taxes huh! that's called lying. must've been planted by the mccain camp .

I think the Obama people have been the ones that have been so negative. They are the ones that are keeping the country from coming together. They seem to be consumed with hatred toward anyone who disagrees with them. I feel that they have been disrespectful in much of the campaign and it is because of them that this country will struggle to unite.

Why do plumbers have a problem with Obama? Obama is going to help the average plumber.

I wonder if any of these plumbers make more than $250,000 per year!!

This CNN Article should be properly titled,

"Republican plumbers don't accept truth that Obama will help them more than McCain will help them"

My question is will John McCain offer contract work on all his seven houses in exchange for all these plumbers support? And at what point prior to the debate did John McCain become an "old buddy" with this ficticious Joe whose real name is Samuel the unliscensed plumber? Keep plumbing out of politics!
