Palin apologizes for patriot 'pro-America areas' comment

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/21/art.palin.countryfirst.jpg caption="Palin apologized Tuesday for making the 'pro-America areas' comment."]
(CNN) - Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin apologized Tuesday for any misunderstanding that resulted when she referred last week to the patriotic values of "the real America" and the "pro-America areas of this great nation."

Democrats and others immediately criticized Palin, alleging she was saying that some part of the country are more patriotic than others.

Palin denied that was her intention in an interview with CNN on Tuesday.

"I don't want that misunderstood," Palin said. "If that's the way it came across, I apologize."

Speaking at a fund-raiser in North Carolina, the Alaska governor said: "We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard-working, very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation."

Palin also said Tuesday that Sen. Joe Biden's comment that as president, Sen. Barack Obama would face an international crisis within six months of taking office points to the dangers of electing a relatively inexperienced person.

"We need to thank Joe for the warning," Palin told CNN's Drew Griffin.

She made similar comments earlier Tuesday at a rally in Reno, Nevada.

At a fundraiser Sunday night, Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, said that after taking office, "it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. ... We're going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."

His point, according to an Obama-Biden statement issued later, was that "we need steady leadership in tumultuous times, not ... the stubborn ideology of John McCain."

Palin is right those small little pockets she is referring to are the most racist little areas of the country. She said it right the first time. Racism breeds in these small little communities. And if she says Obama isn't ready for a crisis and to be president, how moronic that she be the VP nomination for a candidate that has fought cancer numerous times in the past few years, and could be the next president if something happens. Well golly be. An idiot walks amoungst the Republican party.

  11. sam for obama

If Obama had said some parts of the country seems to be more pro america than others it would be drawn out in the media for days. It is sad that this woman is willing to think that some people love this country more than others. Its scary to think that she can be our next president!

Mccain/palin thinks that they can say and do anything without being asked questions. Think again! We need answers from you too mr Mccain!

    G Gordon Liddy maybe?

Problem is that we did not misunderstand you. We know exactly what you meant. As for Biden, he was just pointing out the fact that Obama is ready for any test. Little fact for you Palin, since we all know you do not understand history, both Clinton and Bush were "tested" at the beginning of their term. With McCain we would be getting a different message every other day.

I think that Joe Biden's point, however badly made, was that there are more crises looming for us in America and the next president will have to deal with whatever comes along. Now, that president can be Sen. Obama, with his calm, reasonable approach to problems and his amazing crew of the brightest minds in economics, foreign policy, etc., or the hot-headed, act first, think later McCain. There is a third possibility, one that sends shivers of fear down my spine – that within six months McCain keels over and Palin is president. Then the crisis hits and she gets us all dead or in soup lines, or whatever.

Since she is playing the "Patriot" part now, why hasn't anyone asked her about the role her husband plays in the seccessionist group in Alaska that would like to take that state out of the Union? How un-American is that?

I was very offended with Pro-American and Anti-American statements made by Palin and Michelle Bachman. How dare they to question americans patriotisam? The funny thing here is First few days of campagin we heard Obama was not ready to lead. When the first debate proved otherwise we started hearing about Fanny and Freddie then it was Aiyrs. Now it is socialism. So this is what the change McCain campagin meant.. Good for you . There is only one reason Obama is leading and that is he is smart and McCain is not.
