Palin apologizes for patriot 'pro-America areas' comment

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/21/art.palin.countryfirst.jpg caption="Palin apologized Tuesday for making the 'pro-America areas' comment."]
(CNN) - Republican vice presidential nominee Gov. Sarah Palin apologized Tuesday for any misunderstanding that resulted when she referred last week to the patriotic values of "the real America" and the "pro-America areas of this great nation."

Democrats and others immediately criticized Palin, alleging she was saying that some part of the country are more patriotic than others.

Palin denied that was her intention in an interview with CNN on Tuesday.

"I don't want that misunderstood," Palin said. "If that's the way it came across, I apologize."

Speaking at a fund-raiser in North Carolina, the Alaska governor said: "We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard-working, very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation."

Palin also said Tuesday that Sen. Joe Biden's comment that as president, Sen. Barack Obama would face an international crisis within six months of taking office points to the dangers of electing a relatively inexperienced person.

"We need to thank Joe for the warning," Palin told CNN's Drew Griffin.

She made similar comments earlier Tuesday at a rally in Reno, Nevada.

At a fundraiser Sunday night, Biden, the Democratic vice presidential nominee, said that after taking office, "it will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. ... We're going to have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."

His point, according to an Obama-Biden statement issued later, was that "we need steady leadership in tumultuous times, not ... the stubborn ideology of John McCain."

    we know what you meant.....

why do they not report the ENTIRE comment by Biden. he goes on to say, that if we are tested, they will find that Barack has steel in his spine. in his way, meaning Barack would be strong and stand up to the testers....they never talk about the ENTIRE comment.....

    anyway @TAINOPOWER: sad and pathetic!

THE "BASE" is just that: base, ignorant xenophobes who are a brown shirt and a goosestep away from turning America into a fascist theocracy. Stop calling them low information voters! They are just plain stupid and programmed by hate talk radio and the propaganda wing of the Reptilican Party, Faux News!

And you so-called Christians- Jesus was about love not hate!

To "tainopower" – YOU are an idiot. Did you not hear Hillary when she pointed out the DEVASTATION this country will suffer under 4 more years of republican "leadership"???? Get real – Obama for 8 and THEN Hillary for 8... THAT is the way a DEMOCRAT would vote – as well as independents and republicans who understand the needs of the country.

All the huff & puff over Rezko this & Rezko that but why aren't they talking about Rezko now??? Could it be because Governor Palin granted a bid to a contractor in Alaska worth about $3,500,000.00 in exchange for a free house??? The contractor agreed to build Sarah Palin's entire house for free as a return favor right before she left office in Wasilla. Gee, could that be the reason could it could it could it???

My god, this has to be the very first apology from her since she first arrived on the national scene. Cheney and her really are one and the same!

Yeah, get all over Palin for her comment, yet justify Murtha for his racist comments. Once again, same ol' story with the Obamiots – they can say whatever they want, but persecute the Republicans if they say anything similar.

Oh, and to AUSTIN, TX, from the Poll of Polls post – I have a life, that's why I'm voting for McCain. I work hard for my money, and don't share yours and Barry's view that more of it should go to pay for lazy slacks (probably like yourself) to sit on your butts all day and complain about how 'the man' is holding you down.

Too late. You suck. Go away.

And btw, please resign as Gov of Alaska. It's an amazing place that would be way way better without the likes of you.

Her apology sounds a lot like the one I get from my three year old. He is sorry when he gets caught doing something he should not be and he might just do it again in a few minutes if he thinks it's fun.

She has shown to be incapable of being President-the one qualifier someone in the VP office should have. She is a competent politician but she does not have the intellectual strength needed to run a country like this.

Soemtimes candidates make honest mistakes, this is not one of those times.

Palin has attack Obama to no end, but she has yet to release more than two years of her taxes. Where is her 1040 for the years she was an oil and business regulator?

I bet she made more than $250,000 during those years. I think most people would recognize she is not the typical hockey mom and does not relate to joe six pack/plumber either.

National Media dig more into this. We heard a thousand stories about Rev. Wright, and Bill Ayers.

Holy crap!! Palin's "APOLOGIZING"!!! OMG this is a historical first for the Mccain/Palin campaign!! I'm in complete shock I didn't think "sorry" was in the Mccain campaign's vocabulary truly amazing!! She should apologize for that it was rude, insulting, nasty, and truly condesending to all americans. Go back to Alaska Caribou Barbie nobody wants in the lower 48!!

Damage has already done Gov. Palin... But apology accepted. After all we are all Americans...

I got a sense that both McCain-Palin realized election is over. Because they are virtually campaigning in Traditional Red States, trying to save Republican Senate/House members who are fighting for their political life in this election...

It would be nice if CNN printed the full quote from Palin including the "Washington, D.C." portion that preceded the portion CNN chose to print. No bull and no bias?

comment about Palin: "We don't need your kind...."

Can you imagine if someone dared to speak this about Obama?

Yeah, Here Here Now, I noticed that too! Every time someone brings up Palin's negatives, the only positive thing they can say is she electrifies or energizes the base. What is she, the energizer bunny? Well, I guess the old farts need a good JOLT to know they're alive! Did you see the video on MySpace, I think it was, where McCain kept looking at her butt? That must be what they mean about "electrifies" haha! They're not talking about politics, they're talking about "lipstick" and "heels" words that Palin used from the get-go to get noticed. Thanks, Sarah, I wouldn't have noticed your "beauty queen" status otherwise – funny, I thought we were looking for a Vice President of the United States, not "Mrs Alaska"!! Go home, Palin. If you can be vice president, so can I and everyone else. You're no more qualified. And you weren't funny on Saturday Night Live, either.

What she said was that as VP she would be able to get in their (the senate) and help make policy decisions. Completely not true. The only power she has over the senate is in the event of a tie breaker. I also know the constitution. And I also know what she said.

Sarah Palin apologizes for her small town pro America comment. I feel she owes Barack obama an apology for her smear tactics... i. e. calling him a socialist, a pal of terrorists.etc. And sarah Palin should apologize to the American people for her abusing her power in Alaska as Governor! Hopefully things will settle down in 2 weeks when President Obama is sworn in. And Sarah Palin can return to Alaska and support the First Dude in his secession party in Alaska!
