INTERSTATE 4, Florida (CNN)– Joe the plumber goes on tour?

Well sort of.

Driving through Florida on the "Straight Talk Express," Sen. John McCain rallied voters and talked to small business owners during the "Joe the Plumber: Keep Your Wealth" tour.

“You know whether it is Joe the plumber in Ohio or whether it is Joe over here –thank you Joe. There's Joes all over here,” said McCain at his second stop, a rally in Ormond Beach, Florida. “Senator Obama wants to spread the wealth around. That means fewer jobs at their businesses and fewer jobs here in Florida.”

People cheered as they held signs that said, "McCain will help the working man" and "My husband is Tom the plumber". Two fork lifts held the "Country First" sign above the platform.

McCain kicked off the tour at the Starlite Diner in Daytona Beach with four small business owners, or in campaign speak, four Joe the plumbers.

Their actual names and professions are florist Richard Rivers, pub owner Tom Curtis, food store owner Patricia Surgine and Thomas Crowe, president of a lumber supply company and a former professional football player.

Diners at neighboring tables manned their cell phone cameras as the business owners told McCain their troubles, particularly with Barack Obama's tax plan.

At the morning rally, held at the lumber supply company owned by Crowe, the Arizona Senator got very fired up about two topics: the Bush presidency and his Democratic opponent.

“I call on the Administration to act now and buy up these home loan mortgages and keep people in their homes,” he said as he pounded on the podium. ”And why is the Secretary of the Treasury not ordering them to do that?”

McCain also emphasized concerns about Obama's ability to lead.

“You know it is amazing," he said "Are you ready to trust Americans’ national security to an untested leader in these times of war?”

He also mocked Obama’s explanation of why Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden said his running mate would be tested by an international crisis as president.

“Yesterday Senator Obama tried to explain away this by warning – by saying that his running mate sometimes engages in rhetorical flourishes. Really? Really? That’s another way of saying he accidentally delivered some straight talk to America.”

At his third and fourth stops, he also met with small business owners. The third stop was held at a dentist's office in Altamonte Springs, Florida. Hispanic business owners were targeted at the later stop, a Puerto Rican restaurant in Orlando.

After his meeting, he made a statement to the press corps where he talked about one of the women he spoke with inside the restaurant, noted the new jobless report, and said he was optimistic about his chances in Florida.

“We’re doing well in Florida, I’m happy with the polling numbers. It’s going to be a battleground state, we got a lot of work to do but with Charlie Crist, Mel Martinez and a lot of the great support we have across this state we will win and we will win this election.”

The six stop tour will take the McCain campaign through Florida along the I-4 corridor. This part of the state is home to nearly 20 percent of undecided voters which both campaigns consider the key to Florida’s 27 electoral votes.

All this "Joe the Plumber wants to be a small businessman" talk.

With this guys record of failing to pay his bills and his taxes, would you really want to work for him?

  3. just X me.......

Biden's guffs are answered by Sen Obama appearing with a group of
so-called national security advisers, all white and looked more like a group right out the mothballs. By the way where are some of the
African-American knowledgeable and capable advisers, who we think
excist out there? Perhaps all that Sen Obama wants from the African-America community is their X on the ballot........

Who gives a frogs fat rear end about Joe the Fake Plumber! McCain, get off that subject, concede defeat, and go back one of our 13 homes and retire.

Barack, please put McCain down like the dead dog he is. My goodness this is the worst candidate I have ever seen. No coherent strategy, all trash talk, no ground game, no integrity, nothing.

Nov. 4 can't come soon enough.

  9. NYC & PROUD OF IT!!!!!

PLEASE POST THIS CNN!!!!! McNasty & Lyin Palin gave an interview to Brian Williams (airs on NBC tonight) about NYC & DC being where elitists live! This guy who has a billionaire wife & owns 7 houses & this woman who spends over $150,000 on clothes for her & her family & her hair & makeup? I'm spitting mad over this statment – all of the boros that make up NYC are elitist? Were those of us that work in downtown NYC & also had loved ones in the towers elitist? Those that perished on 9/11 in both NYC & DC were elitist & un-American? Perhaps we should have mentioned that to al-queda & my family member & several friends would still be alive & I wouldn't still be having nightmares about it – How dare they! I can't afford a $150,000 shopping spree for me & my family & I don't frequent cocktail parties either – How dare they!!!!! *aaaaaaaaack*

The idea that this fake plumber is supposed to represent the every person is completely ridiculous. As if any of us are summed up with a first name and work related label. It is so condescending to try and say so.

  15. Independent from PA

McCain believes the American people are idiots.. That he can use a bunch of props; including Sarah Palin to make his way into the White House. Frankly his judgment on a range of issues have made me reconsider my prior esteem for him. He has run not just a dishonorable campaign but one in the gutter! Shame on you, McCain. You could have done much better with a more moderate posture.

John McCain needs to get on a "Dementia Tour." The only time an old man doesn't need to pee is when he's peeing. All of this "Joe the Plumber" is bulls@*t and if McCain were in his right mind he would know it. Why not "Killroy," while he's at it.

  20. America demands answers

    Dirty Harry
You are probably too dirty to read the whole story. The interviewer asked Gov Palin...."What preconditions are you asking for Sen Obama to put in place" We are all still waiting for her to give the pre-conditions. She obviously just spewing out lies and dont even know what pre-conditions are to be in place.
