Obama says McCain puts Main Street last

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/POLITICS/10/23/campaign.wrap/art.obama.ap.jpg caption="Sen. Barack Obama is trying to take the lead in Indiana, a traditionally Republican state."]

(CNN) - Sen. Barack Obama on Thursday charged that Sen. John McCain "wants to keep on putting corporations ahead of workers."

"Just yesterday, Sen. McCain strongly defended the Bush policy of lavishing tax cuts on corporations, including those that ship American jobs overseas.

"He made the strange argument that the best way to stop companies from shipping jobs overseas is to give more tax cuts to companies that are shipping jobs overseas," Obama said at a rally in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Obama was referring to comments McCain made Wednesday in an interview with CNN's Wolf Blitzer.

McCain said that big corporations often move work overseas if they can because the tax rate is much lower.

"If they go to Ireland, they're only paying 11 percent. So where are they going to go where they can create wealth and create jobs? It's simple fundamental economics," McCain said as he defended his plan to cut the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 25 percent.

Obama on Thursday said, "My opponent may call that 'fundamental economics,' but we know that's just another name for the Wall Street first, Main Street last."

    EXACTLY!
I saw the reports that that 11% tax has bankrupt the country!
THAT's why McCain's plan (the Bush plan, by the way) won't work.
Capitalism is greed regulated. Take away the regulation and you have greed.
McCain is by his own admission a deregulator.
And his pick of VP is DANGEROUS.
    Vote smart, Vote Obama

I saw the clip of the full conversation Sen. Obama had with "Joe the Plumber."
First, I was impressed with Sen. Obama's detailed, well-thought out explanation. It was not full of rhetoric, and he answered the question without knocking his opponent.
Second - Sen. Obama spent more time than Joe the Plumber deserved, but it was because he wanted to make clear his plan for tax cuts. It was far, far more than the guy deserved.

  5. A Closer Look At John McCain

Barack may not have all the answers, but he's going to fight like heck to get them. McCain on the other hand will pretend he has the answers and if he makes mistakes like George Bush, he won't lose any sleep over it. He's a rich wealthy man, who cares about the "little people".

All I care about is the day after the election and Obama reaching the magic # 270.
I won't be surprised if the Republicans steal this election. That's the only way they know how to win.

    Rational thoughts.
Yes, look at Ireland. Their economy is shot. They are going into austerity measures. Slashing health care for seniors, slashing pay for teachers.
Great study in what happens when you do what McCain is proposing.

I don't think Ireland is the best country to pick for a comparison – consider size, demographics, etc. It's so odd to hear people, who are most likely underpaid, crying out in support of the wealthy. He has really fooled alot of people.

Well, last time I looked Grampy couldn't find Main Street, and Joe the plumber and Sarah aren't bright enough between the two of them to help him find it either. He'll still be searching for it on November 5th.

  16. Disgusted with liberals

CNN – go ahead and moderate out any negative comments about liberals....but leave in all the ignorant comments from hateful liberals who attack any conservative as hateful and uneducated and extremist. It goes both ways. And the left is going to send this country into a nosedive we may never recover from. Welcome to the People's Republic of America...led by your fearless dictator BO and his Pelosi, Dodd, Frank dogs.

I thought Barack was going to go visit his sick granny yet he has not even left the continental US. Was that just some pathetic simpathy ploy because Biden said a Crisis will happen to test Baracks mettle?

Rhetorical flourishes??? what does that mean? I have a college education and those words still don't mean anything strung together like that. What is that lawyer speak for "It's true I have no real experience"?

  20. yeah right...

Apparently republicans believe that even after a story has been proven to be a lie, like the report about the lobster and caviar which had to be retracted, they can contiune to use it, like the "Joe the plumber" tour when Joe is no plumber, and can't afford to by any business and has not been paying his taxes....It's demeaning to the rest of us, and honestly, it's insulting and offensive. If McCain wins, I would really fear for my life and would seriously consider moving, at least until the crisis of a McCain/Palin administration is over.

Our prayers are with you, your family, and with your grand-mother. We know that the McCain campaign will take advantage of your absence from the campaign trail. All the more reason why he doesn't deserve to win this election. God bless and see you Saturday.
