Palin changes tune on 'feminist' label

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/03/art.palin.gi.jpg caption="Palin told Katie Couric last month she considers herself a feminist."]BEAVER, Pennsylvania (CNN) - Does Sarah Palin consider herself a feminist? It depends on which network anchor is asking.

In an interview on NBC Nightly News that aired Thursday, host Brian Williams asked Palin: "Governor, are you a feminist?"

"I'm not gonna label myself anything, Brian," she responded. "And I think that's what annoys a lot of Americans, especially in a political campaign, is to start trying to label different parts of America different, different backgrounds, different … I'm not going to put a label on myself. "

The vice presidential nominee said she believes in women's rights and equal rights. Palin went on to say that when she was growing up in Alaska, she "was expected to do the same thing that the guys were doing."

"I'm not going label myself feminist or not," she concluded, "but I do believe that American women can recognize in me an advocate and a friend. And I want to be in the White House for them."

But Palin gave a different answer in September when Katie Couric of CBS News asked her, "Do you consider yourself a feminist?"

"I do," Palin answered. "I'm a feminist who believes in equal rights and I believe that women certainly today have every opportunity that a man has to succeed, and to try to do it all, anyway."

In that sit-down, Palin told Couric she defines a feminist as "someone who believes in equal rights. Someone who would not stand for oppression against women."

How can she believe in "women's rights", but want to take away Roe v. Wade? Isn't that the basic premise?

    Sarah Palin is truly frightening.

She is, essentially, against women and anything they stand for.

She doesn't support a woman's right to choose. She believes that a woman who suffers a horrific crime against women should have to pull into a hospital emergency room and pay for her exam.

    Go Barack Obama/Joe Biden 2008, 2012

Please tell this abuse of power Governor to go home. I have lost my patience with her lies, enticement of hate mongering at her rallies, and her lack of honesty and integrity. I was excited when she was chosen. But soon came the alarm. I have researched her intensely up in Alaska. This is not a lady that I would ever want in the White House.

    Sarah Palin is NO feminist...

she cant even make her husband stay home with the kids to ensure that they get an education..eat...get dressed, practice safe sex, and take care of the house.

Todd has no job, so why is he following his wife around like a jealous creep.

I'm a Dj and sometimes my gig takes me to other cities...i also have 4 children who attend school EVERY DAY.

When I'm gone; my husband takes care of EVERYTHING at home...I'd leave him if he has to follow me everywhere with the kids while i make a living.

Sarah Palin is a poor representation of a working mother.

Forgot to add that for someone who spent $150,000 on clothes in one month -should not be allowed to comment on anything. There are people starving, losing the homes, jobs and struggling. And this idiot stands on stage in a new expensive wardrobe telling people she is just like them. I don't think so Ms Palin. Us good christian women would have given the bulk of that money to the homeless and poor. Not another boring black suit, that looks like all your other ones, from Saks.

Either she doesn't know what she believes in, or she is so morally shallow she will say whatever anyone wants to hear. Or maybe it is that she is so intellectually shallow that she really doesn't know what a feminist is, just like she doesn't know what a VP does. Her ability to so easily change directions 180 degrees makes her a perfect fit in the Weathervane McCain campaign.

this woman is evidence that politics in the united states has finally scraped the bottom of the barrel. she expresses herself on a fourth grade level. it is obvious she merely recites talking points that have been provided to her by her handlers (and most often rather poorly). it is an insult for her to pose as a representative of intelligent, hardworking, and honest women (regardless of party affiliation). is she capable of leading this nation? please! we need more than a wink and pretty legs!john mccain robbed us of a viable choice with the selection of this fraud. was elizabeth dole unavailable?

Once McCain picked her as his running mate, those who operates his campaign are really smart to not allow her to have a press conference as expected from the person who's going to be the potential president of this great nation. They understood that she is gonna end up screwed. well, we're seen it one after the other.

"I think that's what annoys a lot of Americans, especially in a political campaign, is to start trying to label different parts of America different, different backgrounds..."

Wasn't it only last week that you labeled some parts of America as "real-America", as people you come to your rallies as "patriotic", Obama as "wealth-spender"? Is this woman drugged? She seems to be in difference states of consciousness every time she talks. She can't recall what she said in the past... VERY SCARY indeed as a VP.

She is great at labels. She calls Obama all kinds of names. Socialist, terrorist, liberal tax and spender.

Maybe she just needs a few hints for her own Party candidates. How about Senile McCain, Geriatric McCain, Elitist McCain (after all, they called Obama elitist and Obama knows how many houses he owns). OK, how about Palin the simple, Palin the unethical, Palin the future Mother-in-law of a high school dropout.

See, all she needs is a few hints. Isn't this fun.

Well she had a few months of intensive coaching. Frankly the old clueless Sarah Palin was more "refreshing" than the new phony "coached" one. She was a clueless puppet before, and now she is a trained puppet.

"Country Fist" must have been on McCain's mind when he picked the "most qualified VP candidate ever" as he said.

Believe that and you voted for Bush twice and now will vote for McSame.

Where is the apology CNN for Drew Griffin lying about Gov. Palin? Drew Griffin blew it off like it was nothing. You owe Gov. Palin an apology. You have zero criedibility. I put you in the same trash can as MSM with your unfair reporting. You are the Obama network. How can you cover an election and be so unfair to McCain/Palin?
