Palin changes tune on 'feminist' label

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/03/art.palin.gi.jpg caption="Palin told Katie Couric last month she considers herself a feminist."]BEAVER, Pennsylvania (CNN) - Does Sarah Palin consider herself a feminist? It depends on which network anchor is asking.

In an interview on NBC Nightly News that aired Thursday, host Brian Williams asked Palin: "Governor, are you a feminist?"

"I'm not gonna label myself anything, Brian," she responded. "And I think that's what annoys a lot of Americans, especially in a political campaign, is to start trying to label different parts of America different, different backgrounds, different … I'm not going to put a label on myself. "

The vice presidential nominee said she believes in women's rights and equal rights. Palin went on to say that when she was growing up in Alaska, she "was expected to do the same thing that the guys were doing."

"I'm not going label myself feminist or not," she concluded, "but I do believe that American women can recognize in me an advocate and a friend. And I want to be in the White House for them."

But Palin gave a different answer in September when Katie Couric of CBS News asked her, "Do you consider yourself a feminist?"

"I do," Palin answered. "I'm a feminist who believes in equal rights and I believe that women certainly today have every opportunity that a man has to succeed, and to try to do it all, anyway."

In that sit-down, Palin told Couric she defines a feminist as "someone who believes in equal rights. Someone who would not stand for oppression against women."

If she believes in women's rights, right off the bat she should agree with Roe v Wade regarding to a woman's right to choose .... but she doesn't and she's a phony .........

A woman who becomes a state governor is by definition a feminist, in the sense that she has sought and held a traditionally male job on her own, no matter whether she chooses to use the term or not. Or whether she chooses to use it some times and not others. This article is just another attempt at the inane hair-splitting that has become the norm for CNN's coverage of Palin and McCain. It serves no purpose other than fodder for the pack of jibbering baboons that attach themselves to this Ticker column and think that calling presidential candidates ridiculous names makes them look clever.

Really? YOU believe in equal rights? I would guess, given your speeches and your political affiliation, you don't have a CLUE what equal rights are. Please just go back to Alaska and speak in tongues or whatever the heck you and the Toddster do up there.

WOW, she should really go back to NOT talking to the media and stop taking interviews. She just keeps digging a deeper hole each time. I almost feel sorry for her. (I said ALMOST!!)

Every time she opens her mouth, makes me donate more money to the Obama campaign.

She will never EVER speak on my behalf, nor would I ever be friends with a close minded woman as such.

Apparently, she does not know what a feminist is or she does not remember what she says from day to day.

The woman is an idiot. Please keep her away from anything of importance, ie. The White House or infact my house...She is scaring me.

You see this is what really bothers me....she never answers the question....just telling you indirectly "yes I am a feminist if this is what you need to vote for me....but no I am not a feminist to avoid non-feminists to vote for me"..... GOVERNOR PALIN IT IS TIME FOR CLEAR ANSWERS!!!!!!!

The VP candidate who says she doesn't believe in labels has done nothing but try to label Obama in the most inflammatory terms she thinks she can get away with.

Let's not be unfair about candidates spending money slavishly. What about Obama's television ads? All the money he makes he gives it to the midia. At least Palin is donating the dresses to charity. What's Obama doing about floding the television networks here in Virginia with his tv ads? I'm about to disconnect my cable tv because all I see is Obama's face everywhere. I like the guy but I just don't know why he doesn't give some money to the poor.

Because we already know the answer to that one!

Technically, it's not that big of a deal. Perhaps in the earlier statement she made in which she agreed she was a feminist she meant the same thing as the second statement though she refused to "label" herself. Over a month of campaigning, you just learn to choose your words more wisely I suppose...

Why not look into Bill Ayers or Jeremiah Wright or Tony Rezko or any of these other people allied with Obama? He's running for Prez, not Palin, but the biased press wants us to know about Sarah Palin's wardrobe. Candidates usually get their designer clothes for free. Palin actually paid for her's like a regular person. Palin plans to donate her clothes to charity. What has Biden given to charity? Nothing. The media smears Sarah Palin (the very kind of woman they claim to care about) for buying clothes. Who paid for Hillary's pantsuits, Pelosi's pearls, and Biden's hair plugs? You couldn't pay off one of Tim Mahoney's mistresses for 150 grand, or Jesse Jackson's, or John Edwards' - not to mention the $80,000 Spitzer spent on hookers!

This woman is so stupid, she doesn't even remember what she said before.

I will be disappointed if anyone though she can be a good president.

The only people left supporting their ticket are people with an IQ less than 50, sexist and racists!

    Obama/Biden '08
