Obama ad: Will you be better off four years from now?

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/25/art.obamadefiningmoment.obama.jpg caption="The Obama-Biden campaign will roll out a new ad in key states Sunday."]

(CNN) - Just a day after John McCain's campaign launched a TV ad attacking Barack Obama's readiness to lead in an international crisis, the Illinois senator unveiled a new ad Saturday that puts a new spin on the age old question: Are you better off today than you were four years ago?

The two-minute ad, "Defining Moment," will begin airing in key states on Sunday, according to the Obama campaign.

"At this defining moment in our history, the question is not, 'Are you better off than you were four years ago?' We all know the answer to that," Obama narrates. "The real question is will our country be better off four years from now? How will we lift our economy and restore America's place in the world?"

In order to "build the economy of the future," Obama says there has to be a focus on "urgent national priorities: reducing the cost of health care ... breaking our dependence on foreign oil ... and making sure that every child gets the education they (sic) need to compete."

The McCain campaign has fired back at Obama's new ad. “If Barack Obama is elected President, this may be considered the first in a series of 'defining moments' more commonly called job-killing tax increases," McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds said in a statement.

At a rally in Norfolk, Virginia, Saturday, Obama's No.2 discussed the ad and blasted the McCain campaign's tactics.

"You know how we’re finishing out the campaign? Barack is going up, instead of anything negative, we’re going up and laying out our plan to fix the economy. That’s what we’re running on," Sen. Joe Biden said. "What is the McCain campaign continue to do? They want to do anything but talk about the economy."

I am so confused about this election but i don't understand why are all the votes getting so worked because you do know that our vote does not count. It is the electrol votes that count. Because if our votes counted then Bush would have never been in office in the first place Al Gore would have been in white house. We all know that Bush has not been the best at anything. So really what do we do as Americans vote even though our vote does not count.

Republicans trying to fix the vote???! Get real. Those nieve enough to believe that BO has the stuff to make changes ought to think about Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton days...yep, higher taxes and giving more money to the people who are too lazy to work for it. BO wins...I'll say there are more ignorant Americans than I care to admit...if JM wins...all you dems will say is that the election was fixed....just like the 'hanging' chads in FL. Sorry folks...blaming others started in the garden...didn't work then, won't work now.

We don't know corrupt until Obama is in office. Pelosi and Reed will be calling the shots, because Obama has to be trained on the job. A dem. president, with a dem. congress, means we are stupid to let this happen.

America will go to hell in a hand basket, and I hope Pelosi, and Reed is in it.

People won't be happy with keeping only 41.7% of each dollar. generous aren't they.

For all of those worried about the imbalance of the federal government with the executive and legislative branches being controlled by the democrats, remember the third branch (judicial). The next president will likely replace 3 supreme court judges. If McCain wins, the republicans will control two branches (one of which comes with lifetime membership). If Obama wins the democrats will control two branches of the federal government (if only for two years).
Those who underestimate the power of the judicial branch have to realize that those "activist judges" that Bush complained about were just doing their jobs – balancing the government's three branches.

Didn't you leave out the word WHO'S or WHO is?

WHO is a communist, WHO is an anti-communist?
    Here's a question.
WHO is a patriot, and WHO is a anti-patriot?
    Which one are you?

"Whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends (life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness) it is the right of the people to alter or abolish it, and to institute new government..."

For Jefferson Values.. It was Marx who wrote the communist manifesto, with a preface by Engels. Not Lenin. Further more while Jefferson believed in the freedom of man, that did not include the t slaves he owned or women. And when Ronald Reagan took office the nation debt was 996 billion. When he and George H. Bush left office, the debt was $7.4 trillion. Talk about your "concentrated power."

I am a foreigner who had great admiration for America as a world leader and a democratic nation. Late President John F. Kennedy promted me to follow your politics which I have admired and have argued for America with many of my anti-American friends. Believe me eletion rhetoric from the republican party has stooped so low to the point of being silly and a joke.

McCain abondoned any sense of responsiblity when he chose Sara Palin for his running mate. How come this guy is a hero compared to John Kerry, who managed to fight his way out of a nasty unpopular war. Boy, how he was villified by the George the Clown W. Bush the son of "read my lips" and watch me go back on my word Bush senior. McCain stayed in the safety of vietnamese prison by choice which makes him a hero. He came out and what did he do? He was ufaithful to his long time faithful wife, told a lie about his age to his current wife, who incidently is very rich, perhaps only good economic decisions he ever made. He even told a lie to get his marriage license. So, he was in the air craft carrier when the Cuban missile crisis broke out like all other navy pilots. This is the sum total of his experience. The man is a certified liar and now higlighting the leadership famine in the republican party. It is people like him who prop up tyrants and dictators all over the world. Remember Tricky Dicky who armed Osama and Reegan who armed Sadam.

The way I see it America's only savation is electing Obama for President and internationally your popularity go up 100%, he has shown his honour and leadership quality compared Mr. Magoo McCain.

PS. Joe the Plumber would have been a better pick than Palin.

TAINOPOWER it is a small miracle that you actually walk upright......They say that there are 2 types of Republicans, Millionaires and Morons, I know exactly where you fit in that case.

I am just glad when I read the comments on all the ticker stories and find that the uneducated, backwards cave people are in the minority.

Gary you are well aware that according to the US Constitution, you can't run for President if you are not a natural born citizen of The United States. So I guess Obama just fooled the FBI, NSA, IMF, CIA, and any other security agency into runnng for President. Come on man its OK to disagree with Obama because of policy, but you and all the other haters need to find a different line of attack, atleast one that makes sense. Oh and don't forget Homeland Security, I guess he folled them too!

@ Scott... yep, you're right, the tax cuts will expire. But, in Obama's plan, they'll only expire for people making more than $250,000. Those making under that amount will still get a tax credit.

And, @ Jimmy, can't say much for your argument. Where were you when the republicans were in complete power both in the White House and all 3 houses of Congress. Gee, I think that was when they pushed through all this deregulation.

Our representatives never get anything pushed through because there's always so much bickering between the parties with each party not wanting the other one to win. Hopefully, the democrats will be in power from the presidency down. This way our elected officials will actually be able to get bills through and accomplish something worthwhile for our country. Has anyone ever actually looked at the number of days these politicians are in session during a year. Pretty amazing. They only work a couple of months out of an entire year.

I am going to vote for Obama. After my talk with him things have really been good for me, a bunch of people raised money to pay my delinquent taxes so basically I dont have to worrry about taxes, heck I might just whine some more and receive all kinds of handouts, just like the big boys on wall street.

  25. Swing voter saying goodbye Republicans

Come January 20th, 2009, we're going to have a government that can get stuff done for the people. And for all the Joe the Plumbers out there you shouldn't be worried because you don't even pay your taxes, it amazes me that such a fraud thinks he could run for a government position.

I tend to believe that parties run in cycles and Republicans will eventually be back in power, but George W. Bush has been such a failure as a leader and a human being, I find it conceivable to believe he may have destroyed the Republican party forever which is sad because we should have multiple views. Republicans will have to denounce his entire tenure to ever have a chance at comeback.
