[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/27/art.stevens.ap.jpg caption="Stevens has been found guilty on all counts."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - A jury Monday found U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska guilty on all seven counts of making false statements on Senate disclosure forms.

Stevens had been charged with failing to disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gifts and work on his house in Alaska.

The 84-year-old senator is locked in a tight race for re-election, hoping to retain the seat he has held since 1968.

Sentencing is set for January 26.

WOW! Um .. He has to drop out. How can an active senator be in prison... Federal guidelines are up to 5 years PER count.

    Alaskan GOP is a mess.

Good, these are the types of Washington insiders that McCain/Palin want out of our government.

  10. Stevens Today--Barney Frank and Pelosi Tomorrow

Barney Frank will pay for accepting what amounts to bribes from Freddie Mac and Fannie May. So will Pelosi.

    Looking forward to their trials.

Now they need to turn their attention to the Governor of their fine state. I'm sure they would be interested to see who built her house. Not to mention all the time she "worked" from home. Sounds like Alaska didn't vet her either.

That is one less republican seat I think and I hope we need to worry about and must be captured. I do not think Alaskans can elect a convict.

In any event, I think the repubs need to be purged this time around so that they can learn their lesson. The day of reckoning is fast approaching for the republicans (Nov. 4th). They must be shaking in their boots now.

    No more repubs this year.

    Landslide Obama/Biden 08/12.

  16. 1ST PALIN FOUND GUILTY, NOW STEVENS??

So we have a Governor of Alaska, Sarah Palin, who was found guilty of abusing her power by allowing her husband to use her office to fire a state trooper. And now the Senator of Alaska, Ted Stevens, is found guilty of making false statements?? Is there an honest person left in Alaska?? Speak up Alaska! Are you going to let them corrupt your state like this?? Vote these bums out!

  24. surprisingly competitive

I guess between Palin's unethical abuse of power and Steven's unethical use of taxpayer money, there is corruption in Alaska afterall.

btw, spending money on designer clothes shows bad judgement and shows that McCain/Palin ticket doesn't have a clue when it comes to spending wisely.

Imagine what they'll do with taxpayer money if they won the whitehouse.
Sarah would be decked out with clothes while our soldiers die from lack of quality bulletproof vests.
