[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/27/art.stevens.ap.jpg caption="Stevens has been found guilty on all counts."]WASHINGTON (CNN) - A jury Monday found U.S. Sen. Ted Stevens of Alaska guilty on all seven counts of making false statements on Senate disclosure forms.

Stevens had been charged with failing to disclose hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of gifts and work on his house in Alaska.

The 84-year-old senator is locked in a tight race for re-election, hoping to retain the seat he has held since 1968.

Sentencing is set for January 26.

Seems that Alaskans are not doing very well at picking honest politicians. Palin's clothing gaff + Trooper gate + problems with travel claims ... does this show a trend of problems inside Alaska's political structure?

I've always thought Stevens was the type who thought he was above the law – arrogant and slippery. He's getting what he deserves.

I wonder: Any close ties between this convicted criminal and the VP candidate from the same state? Did they have meetings? Phone conversations?

Why are people of Alaska allowing this old fat cat in senate for so long?
the retiring age is 65 years old, this man is 84 years old .
I am not surprise, there are many others old morons that should not be in senate. These people are so selfish, self center, power drunk hence the world is in trouble ..
Help clean up the old washington, vote all them out.

Al Qaeda in the U.S. Next Year October 27th, 2008 4:20 pm ET

Obama will begin his woos appeasement efforts with Al Qaeda and Iran early in 2009. When they sense his weakness, Al Qaeda will be in NY and LA before June and we will pay the price. Americans may have thought it was all about the economy but it isn't. It's about keeping terrorists out of the U.S. as George Bush has done for the past 7 years.

What is this, your witch craft prediction? Shut up McSame supporters. the end is near.

  15. SOCIALISTS!

For all the idiots who are falling for this "socialism" crap..

Obama's plan is to redistribute the DEBT burden, not wealth. Money is not going to anyone, it goes to paying off the national debt created by Bush!

McCain's plan gives a REWARD to those who created this economic disaster!

    WAKE UP!

I would like to thank Sarah Palin, as Governor of Alaska, for having awarded the $40B natural gas pipeline contract to TransCanada.

Its good that Alaska is outsourcing jobs to Canada.

What's going on in Alaska? There's so much corruption there it's not funny. If Steven had been tried in Alaska, the veridict would have been that 'He made the false statements but he did nothing illegal.' Tells you a lot about ethics in Alaska.

Hey now he might not be the only one from Alaska to abuse his office for personal gain. There are some pretty suspect characters coming from Alaska these days. Since Gov. Palin lobbied this man for funds does this means she was palling around with a covicted felon? Just another nail in the GOP coffin! I wonder if Palin ever gave the money back to VECO! What a joke the Republican Party! Good ridance

    Go Obama

Excellent.....as if there was a doubt.

Now to get to the bottom of this House issue with the Palins.

Seems a contractor might have built their house at the same time they built a public works project and using 'extra' materials.

  25. Proud to be American

Yeah I am so surprise about this <== Yeah right.

I say don't stop with him it is time to clean house and I think we should start at the top and work our way down.... Congress approving ratings will go up tremendously if we start impeachment process on Bush and Cheney heck.... they tried to impeach Clinton on less..... this time it will be valid.
