Palin trots out 'Tito the builder' at Virginia rally

Palin was introduced by 'Tito the builder' at a rally in Virginia this morning.

Palin was introduced by 'Tito the builder' at a rally in Virginia this morning.

LEESBURG, Virginia (CNN) - Sarah Palin brought along one of her favorite working-class heroes to a campaign rally in northern Virginia on Monday: Tito Munoz, or as he’s better known to Palin and her audiences, “Tito the builder.”

Munoz, wearing a yellow hard hat with a McCain-Palin bumper sticker, introduced Palin at the outdoor rally in Loudoun County, a populous Washington exurb that broke for George W. Bush in 2004 but has gone Democratic in three consecutive statewide elections.

“Everything we stand for is in danger by higher taxes and less freedom,” Munoz said of Obama, earning chants of “Tito! Tito!” from the audience.

The McCain campaign took a shine to Munoz, who owns a construction business, two weekends ago in Woodbridge, Virginia when he was seen accusing a group of reporters of attacking Joe the Plumber for questioning Barack Obama’s tax plan. Palin has since cited Munoz in speech after speech as an example of a hard-worker who would have his dreams crushed by Obama’s plan to raise taxes on high income-earners.

When Palin took the stage, she cracked to Munoz that “not since the Jackson Five has the name Tito been used so often.”

The governor proceeded to deliver a mostly routine stump speech, lacking any of the improvisational riffs like the one she put forth in Tampa on Sunday, when she ad-libbed a four-minute diatribe on the “ridiculous” questions about her RNC-purchased wardrobe.

Instead, Palin stuck to the campaign script and accused Barack Obama of shifting his rhetoric on taxes.

“John and I have a very basic, fundamental disagreement with our opponents on this issue. Sen. Obama has an ideological commitment to higher taxes,” she said. “And though it seems that he adjusts his tax plan pronouncements almost daily now, kind of flip-flopping on what the details are. His commitment to higher taxes never changes, though.”

With Virginia teetering on the brink of falling into Democratic hands for the first time in 44 years, Palin is blitzing every corner of the commonwealth on Monday with four campaign stops and a series of local media interviews. A Washington Post poll released Monday showed Obama leading John McCain by eight points in Virginia, with one half of registered voters holding "strongly" or "somewhat" negative views of the GOP vice presidential candidate.

OMG! Guess their campaign must be running out of steam with Joe the Plumber. Sorry and Sad, my friends! This woman should definitely be in the lowlight on the day that the LARGEST newspaper in the state of ALASKA, the Anchorage Daily News endorsed BARACK OBAMA, stating the they consider the thought of Sarah Palin being a minute away from the Oval Office just "too risky". One week from tomorrow, folks, she'll be turning in her expensive costumes, as well as the outfits of the kids, and heading back to the Thrift Store in Alaska.

I think this is ridiculous that Sarah runs on absolutely nothing.

With HIV/AIDS on the rise around American nearly 1 and 20 people living in Washington, DC has HIV according to the Washington Post. This is a epidemic that Obama has touched on, but neither McCain nor Palin even recognizes this as a problem.

Barack Obama will expand funding for research of HIV, especially for prevention options including a vaccine and microbicides.

McCain and Palin are out of touch plans to do nothing about HIV/AIDS issue that is causing millions of people to died around the world.

    We Need Change.

Only 8 more days to go. I have never seen such a dunce/moron/idiot as a political figure. Get this woman off the stage.

Any forn of taxation is a redistribution of wealth. Come on people (sorry, few people who want to hold on to this dying dream). We have a tax system based on income. I think they may call it something like 'income tax.' Different people are taxed a different rates to provide government services to all. That's no socialism, it's not marxist, it's just the way it is. But, I do call someone getting $150,000 for clothes and lord knows how a month for a stylist welfare.

I voted the 1st day of early voting here in Texas. Our city polls show that Obama won this city by a 69-32 margin of early voters. This state is going blue. And if the Reptilicans are not careful with their campaign rhetoric or the "purging" of votes. There is likely going to be a race war of this country that steals votes. The "Real Americans" are not going to tolerate this 3 eletions in a row.

    Thanks Sarah,

You're turning off the people in the middle more and more with your simple-minded speeches. The U.S. is tired of this right-wing ideologue crap, we need solutions, wherever they come from. Every time you open your mouth you prove that the GOP doesn't have a clue.

Tito the Builder is too stupid to realize his taxes will go down in an Obama administration..but saying stupid Republican is redundant.

I really admire the Republican party. They are great at getting people who do not get benefits from their policies to be their champions. That is quite a feat. I mean most of the people crying about protecting their wealth probably do not have any wealth to protect. It is the rich Americans that have the wealth but it is the people in the republican party that do not have any wealth that are protecting it for them. Look at the demographics of the people that vote republican. They are the people who would benefit under BO but will vote for mccain. That is something the republicans can be proud of. Their motto is vote mccain and ignore what we have done to you.

Do any of you "socialist" name-callers have any idea what you're going on about? Capitalism isn't divinely-inspired. It's naively idealistic to imagine that free markets exist in reality; somebody owns all the markets I ever heard of, and nothing is free.

The fact is that Obama is in favor of allowing the law to revert to what it was during the most prosperous period of this generation. It's also true that much of the appearance of an economic boom that's taken place during the Bush years has been illusory, the product of too much borrowed money being squandered on spending that produced no returns.

Economic transactions require both supply and demand. Bush policies have tilted the playing field so much in favor of supply that demand has been drying up for years, a fact hidden under wave after wave of borrowed money, shoring up a declining standard of living with debt. Well, the debt party's over, and if we don't take steps to revitalize the demand sectors of our economy, we're in a collapse that will leave us unable to make the payments on our accrued debt.

Bush policies have driven this nation to the edge of national bankruptcy. It's well past time to stop being stupid.

    Darling Sarah,

I don't give a rat's behind about "Joe the Plumber" or "Tito the Builder." If these people allow themselves to be used by a political party, they deserve to be put under the microscope. I know there are a lot of people who said that the democrates ruined "Joe the Plumbe" because they looked into his past. However, it is the Republicans who bring up his name and use him at every event. Having said that, I recall at a recent stop where Obama was called a Socialist by a woman (who probably is receiving the Social Security a Socialist program) and who wouldn't shake Obama's hand when it was extended to her.

I have not heard or read anything about this woman so, who is using who???

    you betcha
