Stevens: 'I am innocent'

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens vowed to fight his Monday conviction on federal corruption charges, a verdict he attributed to "repeated instances of prosecutorial misconduct."
"I will fight this unjust verdict with every ounce of energy I have," the 84-year-old Stevens, the Senate's longest-serving Republican, said in a written statement after the jury came back Monday afternoon. "I am innocent."
Stevens was convicted of seven counts of making false statements on Senate ethics forms to hide hundreds of thousands of dollars in gifts and work on his Alaska home from an oilfield contractor at the center of a corruption probe in the state.
The verdict came days before he is to face voters in a neck-and-neck re-election bid back home. He vowed to get the results overturned and added, "I remain a candidate for the United States Senate."

Of course he's innocent, every politician from Alaska is innocent even after they've been proven guilty, just ask Gov. Palin...

I am truly sick of this "there must be something in the water in Alaska" nonsense. I do believeStevens and Palin to be corrupt and should be booted. My boyfriend lived in Alaska when he was in the military and it's like nothing else. It's a beautiful place with great people. Please remember that the people of Alaska are the victims of a corrupt political system. But it happens everywhere. We really need some more power over our own government.

Sadly, the way Senate rules and practices go, he could – if reelected – remain as a Senator, unless the ethics committee decides to oust him, something they haven't shown any great enthusiasm to do.
After watching the movie recount, I now understand that voting in America is a 2 fold process. First, vote. Second, make sure the republicans haven't taking you off the voter registration list because your name is similar to some other guys.
Only in the states do you have republicans fraudsters in control of the voting process. How is this possible. I think voting in 3rd world countries is more organized.
