Joe the Plumber backs McCain

(CNN) - The McCain campaign is getting some help from Joe the Plumber in the key battleground state of Ohio.

Campaigning with a McCain surrogate, former Congressman Rob Portman, Joe Wurzelbacher took aim at Democratic presidential hopeful Senator Barack Obama, saying he wanted to redistribute the wealth. He told reporters, “We’re not a socialist country. That bothers me. It scares me. That’s the reason why I came out here. I’m really scared for our country,” he said.

“John McCain is spreading an important message for all of us. For small businesses. That’s really important,” said Wurzelbacher.

He told reporters “I’m not going to sit here and tell you which way to vote” - but he may be working to influence voters. A campaign aide says it’s possible Wurzelbacher will campaign in states outside Ohio, including Pennsylvania. Wurzelbacher himself has not confirmed the possibility.

While McCain has never met Joe the Plumber, the two have spoken. McCain has scheduled a two-day bus tour in Ohio starting Thursday. Asked whether the two will hit the trail together, campaign spokesman Paul Lindsay said Wurzelbacher approached the campaign earlier this week offering to help, and that they are is “open to whatever Joe is comfortable doing.”

Wurzelbacher shot to instant fame when John McCain brought him up during the last presidential debate. At an Obama campaign appearance, he Ohio native had challenged the Illinois senator on his tax plan, saying he wanted to buy a small business for $250,000 and was worried about taxes he might face.

Wurzelbacher later revealed he was talking about a possibility - that he makes far less than $250,000, and would not currently be taxed under Obama’s plan. He also came under intense scrutiny that included questions about whether he was even registered to be a plumber.

“There is a lot of, a lot of different taxes. Capital gains. Different things. It’s hard to follow all of that to be honest with you,” Wurzelbacher said Tuesday. “But if you look at the basic facts, [Obama] wants to spend a million or a trillion dollars in new spending. Where is he going to get it?”

Ohio’s inspector general is looking into reports that Wurzelbacher’s information was accessed on state databases. Cuyahoga Support Enforcement Agency Director Jim Viviani tells CNN he is trying to determine whether one of his employees accessed Wurzelbacher’s information on October 17, the day after the last presidential debate. Wurzelbacher doesn’t live in the county and Viviani says there would be no reason to access his records.

I guess this guy doesn't want the tax breaks Obama is offering him. I guess he'd rather live under the delusion that most small business owners make more than $250,000.

This is really becoming a pain in the butt. I mean who cares what this guys thinks or says. He is not running for president. While he's out and about with his face in the camera, doesn't he have a job he needs to be at?

He spends too much time trying to get tv time.

Maybe Joe ought to carve a backwards "B" on his face and then have the McCain communications manager tell the press that a black man did this to him and B stands for Obama. Why not kill two birds with one stone?

LOL, did Joe "the plumber" thing it was socialism when it was Bill Clinton enacting the tax rates? We have had a progressive tax system for who knows how long, but now it is socialism? In 2000, John McCain was defending the view of the rich paying more in taxes but now it is socialism.

My dog, Poochie The Poodle is protesting. He wants just as much face time as Joe The Plumber. He says his opinion is just as important because he's "thinking" about buying a plumbing business also. He also behind in paying his taxes, like Joe. He wants to know if America is bias because he's a dog.

    Let the dogs vote!

Message to Joe the Plumber – I have been a small businessman for the past 20 years and I support Barack Obama – he is the best choice for our country at this time – I am also retired from the miltary having served on active duty for 21 years – we are not all being taken in by McCain and Palin. Just maybe you should take a second look as there are lots of folks just like me.

If he is too ignorant to vote for the person whose policies have been shown to be vastly in his favor, than he can go right ahead. See us crazy liberals think that you have the right to make decisions for yourself, even if they are really really stupid.

  21. 4 THE CONSTITUTION

Joe is only one voter, who by the way ,lied about that he was anywhere near buying a business. He does not, obviously know what socialism is and confuses it with a progressive tax system. You want things to get worse in the economy for 95% of Americans -vote McCain. You think the top 5% should continue to profit off 95% of the country-vote McCain. You don't get that there are so many loopholes that corporations pay the lowest taxes (regardless of their tax bracket) -vote Mc Cain. You are not going to complain that you can't afford the rising cost of living and decrease in salary, benefits, and medicare for the next four years-vote McCain. He's not Joe the Plumber -he's JOE theDUMBER

What a sad commentary on the McCain/Palin campaign?

Joe the plumber is a fraud . He is not a licensed plumber. He does not have the money to purchase the two-man plumbing business where he works. The two-man plumbing business where he works is not even for sale.

McCain and Palin are not good for America. They are devisive and focus on our differences which can only further polarize our country.

McCain has sold his soul for the presidency. It is quite pathetic, actually.

Palin is the laughing stock of the world. I guess she never heard the old adage, "it is best to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and remove all doubt." I'm certain the people of Alaska are ashamed of her and ashamed of themselves for selecting her as governor.
