Palin calls for Stevens to resign

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/27/art.palin.10.27.jpg caption="Palin says Stevens should step aside."](CNN) - Sarah Palin said Tuesday Alaska Sen. Ted Stevens should resign his Senate seat, in a statement released hours after John McCain made a similar declaration.

The comments come a day after Palin would not say what she thought the best course of action for the recently convicted senator should be.

"After being found guilty on seven felony counts, I had hoped Senator Stevens would take the opportunity to do the statesman-like thing and erase the cloud that is covering his Senate seat," she said in the statement. "He has not done so. Alaskans are grateful for his decades of public service but the time has come for him to step aside. Even if elected on Tuesday, Senator Stevens should step aside to allow a special election to give Alaskans a real choice of who will serve them in Congress."

Palin has the right IDEA, but if she is not careful she will find that she is going to have to answer the same question about her own PROBLEMS.

The audacity of this woman. I guess she still thinks that abusing power isn't illegal. Besides for Troopergate, isn't there more scandals involving this bimbo.

What a puppet on strings this woman has become- it's really sad. You know she's only asking for his resignation because McCain did so. She wouldn't have done it on her own, because she doesn't want to appear "rogue"...

She's not going rogue! She's going Stupid er!!!

Palin is a hypocrite. She needs to take her own advice and step down as Governer when she returns after Nov. 4th

I wonder if she will be so inclined if/when she is found guilty by her Personnel Board investigation. Seriously, would she stand beside Stevens and defend him? All this means is that she's not disobeying ALL of her orders from party central.

Palin is going to run for this office. This was planned to give her more credibility for the 2012 ticket against Senator Hilary Clinton. These republicans are too transparent.

Isn't this the pot calling the kettle black? Hello Troopergate! Didn't she also try to charge the state of Alaska for her children's travel expenses to functions they weren't even invited to?? Hmm.....smells like hypocrisy to me! Not only that, but apparently Caribou Barbie had to check in with McCain yesterday before she could give her response today.

Of course, she said it herself, she wants to allow a special election so she can appoint a Republican. That it way better than letting a Democrat win. Sarcasm.

He was the one who wanted to rush the trial so that it would be over before the election, he lost. He has to live with his decision. If he had stepped aside months ago, you would have been able to put another Republican on the ticket who would have had a chance.

Deal with the consequences of your actions.

AGREE. Stevens – why don't you ask Palin to step down? sarah Palin has also been accused for excepting free travel for her and family from oil companies. Also the travel expenses she submitted reimbursment for her and her family for traveling with her on NON business travel.

It doesn't matter who asks him to resign, it is still the right thing to do. I don't care for Gov. Plain any more than most of these comment posters do, but do we have to demonize her for everything single thing she says or does? Remember the part where we have to start reaching across the aisle after Tuesday? Ease up, already, folks.

  19. WannaBe Maverick?

The Maverick finally speaks on the issue IN HER STATE! She had to first find out how Daddy McCain would directed her. Palin is a wannabe Maverick. She cannot make critical decisions on her own, nor can she make simple ones like what clothes she will wear. Stevens will not step down. The Senate must tell him to do so. Palin is not asking the Senate to do so. Palin is a pu**y, not a pitbull.

Sarah Palin is a breath of fresh air. If my nephew was shot by a trooper with a stun gun he should have been fired. Sarah did the right thing in trying to get him fired. Go Sarah Go. I've been a Democrat all my life but after Obama stole-yes stole the nomination from Hillary, I wouldn't vote for him for dog catcher. Shame on all of you female haters.

dum, dumb was just saying this morning that she did not know whether to vote for him and hours later, she's calling for his resignation.

I guess Palin just received her talking points. I wonder if she has any self-esteem left after dealing with mcbush.

It took almost 24 hours for her informed opinion, while Americans knew right from wrong instantaneously. Politicians operate from a different moral level................what ever can get them elected.

Guess the pressure got to her. What would be funny is if Stevens called to Sarah Palin to resign since she's been found guilty of breaking Alaska's ethics laws.
