Judge: PA must have paper ballots ready if half of machines fail

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Pennsylvania must have paper ballots available for its voters if half the machines at a polling place break down, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

The state wanted paper ballots mandatory only if all the machines in a polling place failed.

"Emergency back-up paper ballots shall be used thereafter until the county board of elections is able to make the necessary repairs to the machine(s) or is able to place into operation," Judge Harvey Bartle ruled.

The state will not appeal the decision. In a statement, Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortes said the state will work with counties to ensure emergency ballots are used consistently, and that there is a sufficient supply.

Why can't we have one ballot for national elections with the back of the ballot being for local stuff , and one machine like the one in north carolina that seems to work without problems......

Of course, shouldn't everyone have them in case there is a power outage, or the machines fail? Its common sense.

When I saw Dole's "Godless" ad about Hagan in North Carolina, I immediately went to Hagan's website and donated to her campaign. And I live in Washington State, about as far from North Carolina as you can get. Regardless of Hagan's religious views, persecution of atheists is intolerable in this nation.

  20. What in the world?

It is so hard to blog on this website if you are not for Obama. Doesn't Obama supporters want to engage in debate with other people? Do you really believe that the Democrats (or Republicans) know what is best for everyone?
There is no room for thought on this website, at all. Unless you say mean and nasty opinions about the other side, you don't get posted here.
Hey Obama people, you do know that the president's job is commander in chief, he does not write legislation don't you? You are putting way too many expectations on your candidate.
Two party system. Look up the last three times in 25 years there was all dems or all republicans. It is always bad.

McCain and Palin at least give interviews, when is the last time you heard Obama without a teleprompter to read from, oh and by the way again tonight. Can't he talk to Sean Hannity and answer some tough questions. What is he afraid of. If he can't talk now without a teleprompter what is he going to do when meeting world leaders?????
