Judge: PA must have paper ballots ready if half of machines fail

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Pennsylvania must have paper ballots available for its voters if half the machines at a polling place break down, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

The state wanted paper ballots mandatory only if all the machines in a polling place failed.

"Emergency back-up paper ballots shall be used thereafter until the county board of elections is able to make the necessary repairs to the machine(s) or is able to place into operation," Judge Harvey Bartle ruled.

The state will not appeal the decision. In a statement, Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortes said the state will work with counties to ensure emergency ballots are used consistently, and that there is a sufficient supply.

    A believer...

I went through hell and back to bring my babies into this world. Personally, I would never had an abortion. But God forbid if my daughter was ever raped, I would hate to be under an administration which would refuse her personal right to not bring that child into this world.

It is a shame how Obama goes to these towns with military bases and says all that he is going to do for their sons and daughters and than vote to end the funding even when even Joe Biden said that thousands would die if he did that. I guess he would think differently if his own daughter was old enough and serving there. He speaks out of the side of his mouth.

Bird, Maybe if Obama would actually tell the American people the truth about his relationships with these people it would be over with but sitting in a church for twenty years and not hearing the radical words of his mentor the Rev. Wright and Ayres just being some guy in his neighborhood may suffice to you because you are fawning over him like the media but he does not want to get the tugh questions because Hannity would not let him off the hook without an answer. I guess we will all see these people reappear after the election in the White House if Obama is elected, why not they are still his friends.

    McCain Palin 08

This Democrat (at least was from the point I was in 1st grade and our teacher asked who we would vote for Jimmy or Ronny) is voting for McCain this year. I could bring myself to watch yet another blah blah (this is what you want to hear) Obama piece of history. Crush anybody that asks you a tough question and when you have the money, buy yourself airtime w/o the questions

    McCain in the middle?
Maybe until he saw he had no chance to win the Republican nomination. Then he sold his soul to the far right.
When he had a chance to show some independence, he chose a know nothing darling of the conservatives as a running mate.

It's all about ambition with them, it's not about service.

    Hi "A Believer"
Worshiping God is more than words, it’s how you live. Murder of innocent Iraqis is against God’s law. Voting for someone who is pro war is giving your approval.
Please, before you cast your vote, pray, and determine whether or not you can tell God that something was more important in this election.

So why exactly is it that when machines make a mistake is always in the republican favor? We need to have an independent source take a look at the code for the touch screen machines, they will find that there has been blatant cheating going on.

Obama's video tonight was BEAUTIFUL – brought tears to my eyes several times – there is no doubt about it – this man is SPECIAL – yes he is THAT ONE – THE ONE. He will bring hope and prosperity and respect back to our country – back to each of us.
Go Barack! you were the best tonight!

I don't answer for any sinful act commited by you or anyone else. Don't open your legs and commit that sin. I will vote for what is my right and that is the welfare of my country.
Take another look at your belief... is it okay to murder? if not then why are we in war? is this what you do with babies that are not aborted??
I care for children and if they are not loved , then don't have them.

Voting is a Federal right. IT is down right preposterous that any 'state" has to be taken to court and then fight against it's own citizens rights to vote and be counted.

Thank God for the federal courts. Otherwise, the Republicans will steal this election too. This time, their efforts will fail and Senator Obama will be our new President a week from tonight. Then, let's hope his new and uncorrupted Department of Justice and FBI start investigating the repeated attempts to steal this election as well as the theft of the two previous ones in 2000 and 2004.

Why wouldnt you just use paper ballots from the outset?
Why have fancy computers that can easily whipe data, fail or confuse voters?
