Judge: PA must have paper ballots ready if half of machines fail

WASHINGTON (CNN) - Pennsylvania must have paper ballots available for its voters if half the machines at a polling place break down, a federal judge ruled Wednesday.

The state wanted paper ballots mandatory only if all the machines in a polling place failed.

"Emergency back-up paper ballots shall be used thereafter until the county board of elections is able to make the necessary repairs to the machine(s) or is able to place into operation," Judge Harvey Bartle ruled.

The state will not appeal the decision. In a statement, Secretary of the Commonwealth Pedro Cortes said the state will work with counties to ensure emergency ballots are used consistently, and that there is a sufficient supply.

To KLEE: About fixing the voting Machines, the president does not have the authority to do that, elections are ran by states, the only thing the federal government can do is monitor and make sure that voter suppression isn't happening because of race or gender.

  5. Another Texan For Obama

I just watched the Obama campaign infomercial and all I can say is WOW. I was never so moved by a political figure before. I was leaning towards voting for Obama, but now it is a definite. Obama will remove all tax breaks from companies that ship American jobs overseas.

    He has my full support.

Oh and thank you republican party for determining this is the best you have to offer. It makes it much easier to decide who is right for the country and who is not!!!!!

I think that the American people need to take a very close look at Barack Obama. How can we elect a man to the highest office this country has who refuses to pledge OUR flag and SING our National Anthem. Obama had "volunteers picking up the homeless people in Ohio and taking them to register voters and while doing such telling them who to vote for; guess who "Obama" That's very honest isn't it. All we can do is each cast our vote and wait on God, as he has the final say.

The truth is out. Yes, Sarah is preparing for 2012–it's showing. The writing is on the wall, and she knows it–so she is paving the way to run in 2012. John McCain, he just wants to prove a point–"I can win this–I'm a maverick". It's about the people and for Sarah and McCain–it's all about them. They have been so busy attacking Senator Obama–I think that they have forgotten about the welfare of the peopl–what's important to the people. It's about Sarah Palin making a name for herself for the 2012 election, and McCain proving a point–"I still have it at age 72".

You fight dirty when you're down. Palin and McCain are throwing dirt everywhere. This is a new era–it's time for a change–bring in new blood and new ideas that can take this country forward–a new and better level.

“Israel has no God-given right to occupy Palestine” plus there’s been “genocide against the Palestinian people by Israelis.”

This is supposed to be negative? Sounds like the truth to me. In fact it actually makes me feel pretty good about voting for Obama after considering going independent.

If Israel isn't a rotten, corrupt, parasite on the American people and the rest of world, then there is no such thing as a parasite.

Interview with John McCain–He wasn't comfortable when Larry King asked him about Sarah Palin. He could not look at Larry when he responded about Sarah Palin. Yes–there is tension there between the two and he admitted that.

We should all have paper ballots with a copy for our own records and proof if and most likely we would need it.

As a Canadian captivated by your electoral process and especially this year's contest, I am in total shock regarding the myriad of concerns and issues regarding the actual vote itself. These are all things you expect from emerging democracies and third world states, not the USA – the standard bearer – the democracy from which all other new democracies fashion themselves. It is apalling. The groups, parties and individuals involved in the challenges, law suits, schemes etc. don't just bring shame upon themselves but their entire system of government which is supposed to be so sacred to Americans.

  21. A believer

Before you vote, please look at each candidate’s actual past voting record on abortion – if other issues are more important to you, please prepare the following for the day you stand before God in judgment:
“God, I knew that you would not care about the pain, suffering and death of all the babies killed after my vote, when compared to my having _________________”. Fill in the blank as to what was more important to you in this election (your tax stimulus check, etc).
Do you truly believe that this issue is more important to God than the sanctity of human life?
Worshiping God is more than words, it’s how you live. Murder of innocent babies is against God’s law. Voting for someone who is pro choice is giving your approval.
Please, before you cast your vote, pray, and determine whether or not you can tell God that something was more important in this election.

    OBAMA IS AN INTELLIGEN MAN.
HE HAS EARNED EVERYTHING HE HAS ACOMPLISHED.
OBAMA IS MAKING HISTORY. BY BEING A BLACK PERSON HE HAS SO MUCH DISADVANTAGES BUT BECAUSE OF WHAT AND WHO HE IS, HE HAS CAPTURED IMAGINATIONS.
FOR HIM TO BECOME PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES HAS BEEN MUCH HARDER THAN IF HE WERE A WHITE MAN. SO HE HAS OVERCOME THE OBSTACLES OF RACISM AND PREJUDICE.
THERE WAS A TIME WHEN THE FIRST BLACK BASEBALL PLAYER GOT INTO MAJOR LEAGUE. THEN EVERSINCE WE HAVE HAD MANY GREAT BASEBALL PLAYERS, LIKE LEGENDARY BABY RUTH .

nOW OBAM IS TEARING DOWN YET ANOTHER OBSTICLE IN AMERICAN HISTORY.. iF ELECTED, WHICH IS ALMOST CERTAIN, AMERICA WILL BE YET ANOTHER STEP CLOSER TO RACIAL EQUALITY AND HARMONY.

    VIVA AMERICA, VIVA OBAMA

Paper ballots would be a great idea, to make sure that the neocons do not steal anymore votes! Some say the GOP stole Florida in 2000 and Ohio and Iowa in 2004. We all suspected vote fraud in the 2008 New Hampshire primary to lift their boy John McDiebold to the top, at the expense of Ron Paul.

It makes sense that a photo of McCain campaigning in PA would appear in article requesting paper ballots in the same state. Because the only way McDiebold could win Pennsylvania is by STEALING IT. But I would like to thank Scott L for demonstrating that the neoconservative GOP still has its useful idiots. Scott, you CLAIM to have voted for John Kerry in '04. If that is/were true, then I guess you want to vote for the LOSER again! McKerry '08? Both named John, both flip-floppers, both lose the general election.

But all the "FOX Democrats" like Scott L can continue drinking the neocon koolaid. I would never take anyone seriously if they are deluded into thinking McBush is an "independent" or "middle of the road" after voting with Bush >90% of the time (so independent!) and picking a VP for the wingnut fringe (so centrist). If McCain is any kind of "moderate" or "centrist," then George W. Bush is a hippy liberal.

Barack Obama is extreme left? Well at least he does not adhere to a Trotskyist ideology like Bush-Cheney-Rove-McCain-Rice-Wolfowitz-Perle-Podheretz, Inc.
