Palin blasts Obama for ties to Palestinian professor

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio (CNN) - Sarah Palin thrust Barack Obama’s relationship with a Palestinian academic into the national spotlight on Wednesday at a rally in Ohio - a tactic reminiscent of her repeated attempts to tie Obama to former radical William Ayers.

Palin kicked off her rally in Bowling Green by stressing, as she always does, that “it is not negative campaigning to call someone out on their record.” In recent weeks Palin has used that line to open up an attack on Obama’s tax plans. On Wednesday, she tried something different.

“It seems that there is yet another radical professor from the neighborhood who spent a lot of time with Barack Obama going back several years,” Palin said. “This is important because his associate, Rashid Khalidi, he, in addition to being a political ally of Barack Obama, he's a former spokesperson for the Paliestinian Liberation Organization.”

Khalidi - whose name Palin mispronounced - is currently a leading scholar of Middle Eastern Studies at Columbia University, and was a contemporary of Obama’s while on faculty at the University of Chicago.

Khalidi has been a stern critic of United States foreign policy towards Israel and has accused the country of “occupying” Palestinian territories, but he has denied acting as a spokesman for the PLO.

The Los Angeles Times reported in April that Obama praised Khalidi at a 2003 going-away party for the professor when he left Chicago. The McCain campaign has pressured the Times to publicly release a videotape of the event, but the newspaper has refused, citing the request of a source.

Palin said the public has a right to know what Obama said at the event.

“And the twist here is that there's a videotape of a party for this person, back in 2003, a celebration of him, and Barack was there, and we know some very derogatory things were said there about Israel and America's support for that great nation,” Palin said.

“And among other things, Israel was described there as the perpetrator of terrorism instead of the victim. What we don't know, what we don't know is how Barack Obama responded to these slurs on a country that he now professes to support, and the reason is the newspaper that has the tape, the Los Angeles Times, refuses to release it.”

Palin accused the Times of being Obama’s “pet newspaper” and said the paper would win a Pulitzer Prize for “excelling in cow-towing.”

The Republican vice presidential nominee was joined at her Ohio rally by Joe Wurzelbacher, known to the world as Joe the plumber. It was the first time the celebrated small business owner has appeared with Palin on the stump.

Palin described Wurzelbacher as “a fellow Alaskan” because he once lived near Fairbanks.

  1. Literally no bullets left in the magazine.

This is the part of the fight with Superman where the criminals run out of bullets and start throwing their guns at Superman instead.

Then he dodges the gun, and throws the crooks in jail.

Obama was wishing his colleague well. No real story here. McCain–learn this: You cannot cherry pick facts to suit your needs, and if you do, you better make sure that none of it can come back at you. The RNC gave this guy money. also, so your hands are not clean in this.

If all you McCain fans want Obama to explain all his relationships, then McCain should do the same, so start talking–about your relationship with Charles Keeting. Gordon Liddy, Jack Abramoff, your support of PNAC, your actions in the USS Forrestral incident, and your coverup on the attack on the USS Liberty. I suggest everyone read "The Make Believe Maverick" - you can read it on line. There's lots of goodies in there about the kind of people McCain has aligned himself with over the years, as well as giving us a look at what kind of man McCain really is.

What an ignorant cow. she has tried to force ignorance and cheating and lying and idiocy on our nation. She wants us to to hate intelligence and education, just so she can get ahead. Wrong. We despise her profound meanness and her moronic self promotion.

Where are you Campbell Brown? Criticizing Barack about a promise that he did not make, look who is continuing to break a promise on running an honorable, clean campaign. I am so sick and tired of hatred, fear, and ignorance I cannot wait to vote for Barack on Tuesday. "Enough is Enough." Obama/Biden 08

You describe Joe the Plumber as "the celebrated small business owner" Does anyone read your articles before you post them? Joe doesn't own anything, doesn't have a license and doesn't pay his taxes.

  11. Blue All the WAY!

    CNN-Let's be jounalist here....

Why do you just repeat what she says and not inform people that she is lying. Almost everything her and McShame says is a lie or complete distortion of truth.

You are supposed to be jounalists here, and yet you never clear up the facts. You allow her to say what ever she wants in her uneducated, uninformed way, and don't clear up. That's why so many people who unfortanatly trust jounalists believe this crap.

Anything that sticks is their motto, and you let them do it.

She is disgusting and CNN is disgusting!

This is ridiculous. Maybe they wouldn't be so behind in the polls if they actually talked about the issues and stopped running a negative campaign. . . which is what this is, no matter how many times they say otherwise. I don't see how dragging an innocent Professor who happens to know Obama is questioning his record at all.

What is with all this Obama "bashing"? Guess both Palin and McCain think all Palestinians are bad people. And now we find that Joe the Plumber is a "fellow Alaskan?" Hmmm, set up by the McCain to confront Obama with that taxation question? Probably.

only place i Could find to psot this:
THe post I am replying to said; "Buy stock in Duct Tape!
You gotta love that Joe Biden. Not sure how this will affect voter turnout or how people will vote, but Joe did it again by lowering the beginning of what will be considered as rich people. It has gone from $250k down to $200k and now Joe slipped that he and Obama must have had a conversation where he wasn't supposed to tell anyone, and Joe being the honest guy he is, let it slip. It is now $150k and who knows, it may go even lower if they are elected.
Damage control is out looking for more duct tape right now."

My response would be: isn't 200,000, and 150,000 LEss than $250,000? YES IT I; so of course, people making those LOWER amounts would pay less taxes! Did BIDEN EVER say that $200,000 of $150,000 was the UPPER limit of those who would pay LESS Taxes?

Read the whole thing before you speak. The LA Times carried the article in April, it's there in black and white.
But I guess reading is not your strong suit. The integrety of the office of PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES is at stake.
For all of you who put down Palin all I can say, you loooosers you just can't stand a female in a authority position, where you will never get too. Hopefully you don't have a boss who is female.

They are not showing the video because it probably doesn't exist or it is not the inflammatory material everyone thinks it is. It is just a ploy to put more fear into people so they will vote for McCain/Palin. Isn't it interesting that those who vote for Obama do so because they see hope and those who vote for McCain do so because they fear the rumors about Obama. Makes you think.

So does that make Palin a fellow Russian because she lives near Chukotka?

As a rank amateur, Palin doesn't realize it's the voters who determine what is or isn't negative campaigning. Poll after poll confirms the voters strongly believe Palin and McCain to be engaged in relentless negative campaigning...and it's costing them the election.
