Closing McCain ads take swipe at Obama

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/10/31/obama-praises-mccain.jpg caption="Sen. McCain releases two new ads in his final push to win the White House."](CNN)–With only four days before election day, Sen. John McCain is ending the battle of the airwaves with a pair of 30-second spots.

"Obama Praising McCain" echoes a Web ad released a month ago: “Praising McCain." That spot spot shows prominent Democrats commending the Arizona senator for his stances on public policy and his leadership abilities within Congress. "Even Obama has Praise for the Maverick," read the screen.

In the new 30-second spot, an announcer begins “The truth on global warming”: the only other speaker in the ad is Obama himself. "The Lieberman-McCain bill establishes limits for greenhouse gas emissions. It's a framework that's not only good for the environment, it's also good for business," says Obama. "I want to thank Senator Lieberman, as well as Senator McCain, for the outstanding leadership that they've shown.”

The second spot, “Freedom,” brings the focus back to McCain’s biography. “I've served my country since I was 17 years old, and spent five years longing for her shores,” says McCain, evoking his time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

“I came home dedicated to a cause greater than my own. We can grow our economy. We will cut government waste,” he says, adding — in an apparent subtle swipe at Barack Obama - “Don't hope for a stronger America. Vote for one. Join me.”

The campaign said the ad will air in key states. On a Friday conference call, campaign manager Rick Davis said he expected McCain to out-spend Obama on the air in the race’s closing days.

It's a shame John Mccain could not keep one centimeter of dignity in this final week. Good luck reaching across the aisle, when you return to the senate McCain. Wonder which one Lieberman or McCain wrote the bill, bet McCain just jumped on to take credit where none was due.

I see the ad left out the declarations you signed against the US while you were longing for her shores. The only thing you came home dedicated to do was trade on the family name, leave your wife and children, marry someone 20 yrs younger, work for her daddy's company and use her wealth to further your ambitions. How's that for an ad!

I have lost all respect for John McCain. I never had nor will have any respect for his Cute & Dumb sidekick. The man has gone far overboard using vast absolute lies in an attempt smear his competitor. I really find it offensive how he is trying scare tactics in an attempt to throw the vote. JOHN BE A MAN!!!!! not a coward as you are acting.

McCain thought that everybody in this great country owes him presidency. The fact is, republicans owe people in this nation too much! Everyone but Oil companies is upset with what they did in the past 8 years.

Military service starting 55 years ago should be recognized, but has little if anything to do with national leadership in today's complex world.
And even within the particular services and heroic sacrifices, someone rationally construct how being on alert as a jet fighter pilot on a Navy warship during the Cuban Missle Crisis and being a POW in Hanoi equates to national leadership qualifications; maybe military, but certainly not Presidential leadrership with the problems we face today as a nation, both domestically and internationally.
And why is he always telling us "I know how to fix it", yet never tells us how? Gee, if it's Country First, tell us already.

The "Praising McCain" ad says to me Obama is willing and capable of giving credit where credit is due. An excellent trait in an honest leader that he can praise an accomplishment no matter who brought it to the table and to fruition.

The other, "Freedom" – quite frankly I'm tired of him dragging the military service out of mothballs every couple of weeks. And am sick of the use of fear tactics.

Don't hope for a stronger America. Vote for one. Join me.” What a great line.

McCain is getting some serious traction in the closing days.
Obama is already measuring the drapes and picking his cabinet while McCain is creeping up in the polls.

If another terrorist we do not know about yet surfaces from Obamas past, that may do it.

Only shows how fair OBAMA is and how generous of heart he is and will continue to be toward an individual who, by his and his FAILIN sidekick's sheer nastiness, has forfeited the right to be considered a civilized human being.

I feel like this commercial has just slapped me in the face. When it makes people who believe in Obamas message of hope seem stupid and willing to vote for strong America. I was hoping McCain would end this campaign with nothing but his argument, not this swipe at obama.

AS USUAL small mcsame is bashing Senator Obama instead of talking about the issues. No surprise there. he is so sad and such a BIG LIAR. oh and a sore loser.

    October 31, 2008 06:32 pm at 6:32 pm |

John McCain sold his soul to the Devil when he chose to break his promise to run a respectful campaign. I fail to see how this will change things. He is full of contradictions, his campaign is virtually rudderless and he has shown erratic leadership (at best) since the GOP hacks have begun to pull his strings. Presidency. I actually think it has affected his ability to think logically. Moreover, he chose Sarah Palin and Joe as his running mates. Need I say more? The ultimate bridge to nowhere. Going, going ..
