Closing McCain ads take swipe at Obama

Sen. McCain releases two new ads in his final push to win the White House.

Sen. McCain releases two new ads in his final push to win the White House.

(CNN)–With only four days before election day, Sen. John McCain is ending the battle of the airwaves with a pair of 30-second spots.

"Obama Praising McCain" echoes a Web ad released a month ago: “Praising McCain." That spot spot shows prominent Democrats commending the Arizona senator for his stances on public policy and his leadership abilities within Congress. "Even Obama has Praise for the Maverick," read the screen.

In the new 30-second spot, an announcer begins “The truth on global warming”: the only other speaker in the ad is Obama himself. "The Lieberman-McCain bill establishes limits for greenhouse gas emissions. It's a framework that's not only good for the environment, it's also good for business," says Obama. "I want to thank Senator Lieberman, as well as Senator McCain, for the outstanding leadership that they've shown.”

The second spot, “Freedom,” brings the focus back to McCain’s biography. “I've served my country since I was 17 years old, and spent five years longing for her shores,” says McCain, evoking his time as a prisoner of war in Vietnam.

“I came home dedicated to a cause greater than my own. We can grow our economy. We will cut government waste,” he says, adding — in an apparent subtle swipe at Barack Obama - “Don't hope for a stronger America. Vote for one. Join me.”

The campaign said the ad will air in key states. On a Friday conference call, campaign manager Rick Davis said he expected McCain to out-spend Obama on the air in the race’s closing days.

So one candidate has the fortitude to give credit where it's due and to reach across the aisle, and the other one mocks him for it?? This ad says much more about McCain than it says about Obama.

John McCain has totally lost any honor he had left with his outrageous lies and distortions.

Too bad John McCain will be remembered as a cranky old man who would give up his life of honor for a shot at power.

I won't even comment on his running mate.

Call it like it is, Senator McCain! The American people are NOT stupid - and they will NOT vote for Obama because of:

McCain / Palin - COUNTRY FIRST!

Obama - Obama first (thanks, but no thanks)!

I don't think anyone doubts McCains ability to be president. the problem is his negative campaign, his choice of a moron as a running mate, and his inability to address issues. I used to have a lot of respect for John. I lost that respect throughout this campaign. Palin is one of the worst, if not the worst vp candidate in history. She parades her kids everywhere she goes, don't they go to school? I haven't seen nearly as much of Obamas kids, and he is on the top of the ticket. The repub campaign has been nothing but negativity. I haven't heard too many substantive arguments from McCain, just Obama bashing. Joe the plumber is a pathetic attempt at symbolism. Who really cares what this guy thinks? Who really cares about joe the plumbers opinion on Obama and Israel?

Question to the Republicans on the floor? Why haven't you talked more about education for those who can't afford it. What made this country great was the power of Knowledge. You so worried about if a black man is going to be president. Are you feeling inferior????

  12. Gerry in Va. for Obama.

I went to see Senator Obama last Tuesday in Norfolk Va. WOW !!! How exciting that was.. We got there early enough to get right in front of him, not ten feet away.... What was so interesting, when people started booing the mere mention of John McCains name, Senator Obama stopped them... He said "don't boo ......JUST VOTE... " When he was finished he came around and shook hands with many of us standing in the front and took books (and my Obama hat) with him to sign. My Obama hat will go to my great grand son who is one year old and hopefully will understand the history behind it when he is old enough.

Olivia, Sarah Palin has refused to answer in depth questions about her experience and policies. The McCain campaign has kept her from being questioned by anyone who they thought would ask her anything of substance. When her interviews went bad they blamed the media. She did however come out attacking Obama and has been very divisive and partisan.
Unlike McCain, Obama and Biden, she has not been vetted. McCain picked a virtual unknown to be his running mate and then won't allow her to talk. He expected the American people to accept her just because she was a woman and not for any other reason. We saw through that, especially Hillary supporters.
As far as being treated badly, perhaps you have not watched FOX news network or Sean Hannity or listened to Rush Limbaugh and other Right wing talking heads. They have attacked and continue to attack both Obama and his wife unmercifully. But I guess that's okay. Sarah Palin has not been attacked or treated any different than Obama has during the past 20 months. I believe she herself said of Hillary Clinton that she shouldn't whine about the treatment she was receiving on the campaign trail.

  14. facts are facts

This pretty much sums up the McCain campaign. This ad does a lot more for Obama's image than McCain's image as it shows a man of stature with the skills necessary to work in a bipartisan manner and give credit to all who act on behalf of America.

On the flip side you won't be able to see Obama saying what a good job you did fighting to deregulate the banking industry or vote to start an illegal war etc. etc.

Your entire campaign has been so irratic it has been bordering on insanity and now you are building up your opposition without realizing what you are doing.

  15. Once upon a horse

you ever notice at an Obama rally if the crowds start to BOO John McCain that Obama quells them ands says there is no need for that? Yet at a Palin rally when the crowd not only BOOS but says some rather ugly things about Obama she just stands there and grins and soaks it up? That my friends is the difference between being in control and humble and willing to praise your opponent to just allowing the crowd to control you.

Do people really believe Mr. McCain when he talks that Mr. Obama is measuring the curtains, etc.? When he actually speaks "live", it is even worse than his ads. It is so sad if Americans believe his speeches that contain such ridiculous comments. If he had integrity, it is gone now.

  18. Voted for OBAMA on Tuesday in Louisiana

Are you kidding me? Obama HAS served this country – he may not have fought in any war but he has worked with many community and educational serviced orgs. He' actually intelligent with great ideas. He may not have "scars" to prove that but his record does. Obama is the better choice. Sorry John.

  20. EqualBranchesofGovernment

If Senator McCain loses the election he has no one to blame except himself........he has stuck to the same "Karl Rove" style politics which is 4 YEARS too old and has not put forth any plan or solutions.....except to stay in Iraq.

I was leaning to voting for him until he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate......I can't now!

McCain has run so many negative ads he thinks that anything positive Obama says about him is a sign of weakness. Someone should tell the old man that he is getting a compliment and should accept it. Obama is showing what "reaching across the aisle" is really about.....

McCain's closing ads attacking Obama and saying nothing on what he's going to do for America. It says alot about his campaign and why we shouldn't vote for someone who has no answers to America's problems.

McCain is not the right man for the job.
He never has been and never will be.

He's angry because he's an over-privileged spoiled rich brat who's not getting his way. Does his shrewish "sex in the city" wife not tell you enough about the man?
