After casting vote, Palin discusses her future

WASILLA, Alaska (CNN) - Sarah Palin appeared calm and confident Tuesday morning during her brief sojourn to Wasilla, Alaska, where she greeted hometown supporters and cast her ballot before departing for Phoenix to join John McCain for an election night rally.

The governor voted shortly after 7 a.m. at her former workplace, Wasilla City Hall. According to the National Weather Service, the temperature at the time was 18 degrees.

Wearing jeans and accompanied by her husband Todd, Palin told reporters who had gathered to watch her vote that she is “very optimistic.”

“Now tomorrow, I hope, I pray, I believe that I'll be able to wake up as Vice President elect, and be able to get to work in a transition mode with the President elect, John McCain,” she said.

Palin refused to say if she had voted to re-elect Republican Sen. Ted Stevens, who was convicted last week of seven felony corruption charges.

“I am also exercising my right to privacy, and I don't have to tell anybody who I vote for, nobody does, and that’s really cool about America also,” she said.

Savoring her final solo appearance as a vice presidential candidate, Palin lingered for several minutes in front of local and national media, taking question after question despite multiple attempts by her staff to end the press conference.

The campaign entourage made two coffee runs while in Wasilla, stopping first in Kaladi Coffee, where the governor ordered two lattes and five regular coffees for her secret service agents.

Before leaving the shop, Palin noticed Tuesday’s edition of the Anchorage Daily News, which led with the news that Alaska’s Personnel Board had cleared the governor of any wrongdoing in the firing of the state’s public safety commissioner. “Board exonerates Palin,” blared the paper’s front page.

Palin showed it to an aide and called it a “nice headline.”

An hour later, she made another pit stop for caffeine, this time visiting Mocha Moose, one of the town’s many free-standing coffee huts. The store’s owners had hung a red banner reading “Palin Fever” by the drive-thru window.

As she waited for her beverages, a local reporter asked the governor how she envisions her role in national politics if McCain loses the election. Palin did not hesitate to muse about a future that might not include being vice president come January.

“You know, if there is a role in national politics it won’t be so much partisan,” she said. “My efforts have always been here in the state of Alaska to get everybody to unite and work together and progress this state.”

“It would certainly be a uniter type of role,” she added.

Asked if she had any regrets about the campaign, Palin bemoaned “the state of journalism today.”

“The blogosphere, the two, three hour news cycles, where just too much is reported based on gossip and innuendo and things taken out of context,” she explained, adding that she’d like to help improve the profession because she has “great respect for the world of journalism.”

I would respectfully disagree. I voted for Palin in regard to her hurting McCain.

Adios, Sarah Palin. I'd like to say it was nice knowing you but my mother taught me not to lie.

Now, maybe Palin can get back to rebuilding the bridge to nowhere.

My vote goes to the person I respect, the person who was not born in Idaho, did not go to school in Idaho, but still felt Idaho was important enough to visit.

Today, I want to see a blue Idaho!

Palin, a uniter??? Isn't that a line from George Bush? I have only heard divisive, vindictive personal attacks from her. She is the one who actually made fun of Obama for being a community organizer. She has taken the typical Republican line of partisanship at any cost.

  7. To all Republican die-hards

To all the die-hard Repubs posting angry nonsense on this and other sites: would you please stop foaming at the mouth? only TIME will tell if you are right, so relax and be patient. Dems say that Obama will usher in a new and bright chapter in the American story; that we will see more cooperation, economic stability and social justice. Repubs have been listening to maniacs like Hannity, Coulter and Limbaugh, so they think that the world is going to come to an end. Let's just watch and see, shall we? And in two years, we can meet back here and talk it over calmly. For today, however, you may need some Valium to cope with the Democratic LANDSLIDE that is about to unfold.

Personally, if sarah palin would like to be a unifer, she should start with herself, since she race baited, became divisive and promoted less intelligence as a banner to be celebrated. she should start by reading the constitution or take a civics course. she should report facts instead of doing what she accuse the media of doing. actually she should stay in alaska, no body with any integrity or decency want her as a leader. let the rnc give her and her family the trips, clothes etc for spreading toxic spiteful rhetoric.

I think she is already looking at being the "white oprah" that Fey satirized on SNL. I am guessing that is her sly way of saying she is looking to go into journalism. I hope she helps journalism more than Mccain.

Interesting how Sarah is upset with the Media reporting based on "gossip and innuendo and things taken out of context." Isn't that exactly what she does?

I think she should think about how she will look in prison clothing after she loses the election and lacks the political clout to stop the investigations and prosecution for her illicite deeds while Governor of Alaska.

  17. Stupid is as stupid does

She's a friggin' idiot. Please GOD do not let this woman hold any more offices! The entire Republican party is full of liars and fear mongers.

Palin always wants to keep a secret about things that don't even matter. I could just see what the daily conversations are at her home:

Todd: Hey honey. I'm home. What's for dinner?

Sarah: Well, I have something that i made on the hot stove that you can eat sometime tonight, or you can keep it in the oven and eat it later, because eating now is great for your health and however if you decide, as I know some people may do, to eat it later, then it will not digest, as many doctors say isn't good for the body when you sleep, because sleeping is such a great thing to do late at night when youre tired and I know that you like your sleep very much. Because when you sleep, what do you do? You dream about the loving family that you have and you also get a better start when you try to race over the great state of Alaska.

    Todd: huh?

Where is Palins full medical report? All she is able to provide is a letter from a letter from family physician...? If this was the other way around, we would be hearing about this 24×7 from CNN/Fox news/Hannity, O Rieley and Rush...what is she hiding and why are we letting her get away with it..

    BTW:
John McCain, Barack Obama and Joseph Biden have all provided details about their medical history.
