Dems appear to pad House majority

(CNN) - Democrats appeared to have padded their 36-seat majority in the U.S. House, defeating a few established Republicans and winning some open contests as they tried to capitalize on an unpopular GOP president.
Democrats clinched a majority and took at least 21 seats from Republicans, with the GOP taking only four from the Democrats, according to CNN projections as of 4 a.m. ET Wednesday.
With winners yet to be called for 12 of the House's 435 seats, Democrats were projected to win 251 seats, with Republicans having 172.
Heading into Election Day, the Democrats had a 235-199 majority. The Democrats' apparent gains Tuesday come two years after they took control of the House - with a gain of 30 seats - after 12 years in the minority.

Approval ratings are at an all time low because of all the do-nothing republicans that are being ousted as I type this.
What about the last two elections for bush? those were two majorly stupid moves but I doubt you objected then. You're just looking to start an argument because you're angry "your team" lost. There are many like you who are going to have to get over it because this great country truly wants to move forward and fix all the mistakes of the past eight years.
I for one am glad to see our great American nation full of Patriots who are getting smarter every year, and putting that intelligence into their votes.

Its sad that you look at it this way, but others perceive that if its at a all time low its now time for the Democrats to take the reign and bring the approval rating back up, the ignorance is not in the Democrats, but in politics itself in my opinion, but change can always go more then one way, the change can be better or worse, all America is asking for (and the world for that matter) is change for better or for worse because the Republicans methods have not met the publics expectations

Obama has been given a gift that not many presidents have been given. Democrats now have a unified leadership among the major branches of our government. This is something that has not happened in many years. Obama has a big job ahead of him but has been given the tools to do it. I want to see some movement, I want to see change actually happen. With this set up I expect great things out of this leadership. The American people have spoken with a clear voice now we want to see what Washington can do!

Maybe next time you'll have the victory. Because, I am convinced that the next president will have a totally NEW America to govern so both the Republican and Democratic party will need to be different come 2012. "10 % approval rating in Congress..." – It's difficult to have a high approval rating when any progressive legislation gets stalled or killed by a divided Congress and an ignorant President. This will be the chance for the Democrats in Congress to prove their worth – a majority in both houses and a progressive in the White House should create a new window of opportunity.
Really...the only thing the Republicans FLUSHED this election is their hopes of bullying their way back into the WH. They ran a campaign pretty much like Clinton's....no direction...no ideas and no hope 🙂

Obama has opened the gateway for many African Americans and other minorities throughout the country... I am proud that CHANGE has come over the land of America... Democrats are well known for cutting the military back. This weakens the country not strengthen it. Many jobs will be lost for the faulty thought of saving on the budget. Credit is the real problem with this country. If everyone lived WITHIN their means then everyone would be better off. Getting into debt then squelching on that debt is the reason things are bad off. Companies are laying off because they are in heavy debt, instead of producing only what is needed they overproduce and cut their own necks. As a result our jobs in the process. The president can never change or affect this. The president is an almost powerless trophy title. We have to change our own selfish desires. Live within our means, will mean never going into debt. Yes, you wont have everything everyone else has, but that doesnt mean your life is worth any less. It just means you'll have to wait for what you want instead of getting that selfish instant gratification from credit.

Since you haven't been paying attention let me tell you people haven't been dancing in the street the last 8 years. Our current president is the worst in US history and we've been slapped in the face with a horrible economic crisis. I personally have traveled to several foreign countries in the last few years and seen first hand how ridiculous the world view of the US has become. Last night demonstrated that America has had enough and its time to give the keys to someone wanting to go in a different direction. Anyway, thankfully you are a minority in your own state. There are 3 big ways that a bill can be stopped: 1) Not enough votes in the House and/or Senate. 2) Filibuster. 3) Presidential Veto.
In the event of a tie vote in either house, the Vice President casts the deciding vote.
In order to end a filibuster, a three-fifths majority vote is required.
In order to overturn a presidential veto, a two-thirds majority vote is required in both houses.
Yes, the Democratic Congress had a slight majority before today, but has not had enough of a majority to get their way.
the dems have about a 2 year window of change, if they can't keep their end of the bargin, some changes will come again in the mid-term elections
