Gibbs likely to be press secretary

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Watch the event on"]CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) - Will Senior Obama Campaign Strategist Robert Gibbs become Barack Obama's Press Secretary?

A high level source involved in the Obama transition team tells CNN Senior Political Correspondent Candy Crowley that as of this morning the offer to Gibbs of the Press Secretary's position has been discussed but that the job has not been formally offered yet.

CNN's Jessica Yellin is also hearing a similar message from another Obama transition source.
A very close friend of Gibb's on Capitol Hill tells CNN Chief National Correspondent John King that he's been told the job is a done deal and will be announced later today.

Gibbs steered the Obama Campaign's communications. He served as Communications Director in Obama's Senate office prior to joining the presidential campaign early last year, and he was a major player in the freshman senator's rise in the public eye.

Loved the way he handled Hannity! Loved it!! Very good choice. Keep Maddow and Olbermann where they are, don't break up that team.

All other positions can wait .... what the country now need is a good, (no, a great) treasury secretary ... Mr. Obama, please select your treasury secretary as soon as possible. Markets are anxiously waiting for your decision.

My vote would be for Robert Gibbs. Rachel Maddow would be an interesting choice, though.

Rachel Maddow? Keith Olbermann? What are you people smoking, and how much on a daily basis? Oh wait, I forgot you fools are liberals.....

Obama doesn't even need a press secretary–the mainstream (what a crock) media will give him all the positive publicity he can ever ask for, and if they don't his supporters will just call them "racists."

Don't sleep on David Gergen. I did not know who he was until this election and I have been very impressed with the depth of his analysis on a variety of issues. His counsel could be invaluable to Obama.

It doesn't matter who Obama gives the job to. GIven the shady tactics Obama used to get elected, we should all fully expect the truth to NOT match what his mouthpiece tells us. GET READY for the failed economic policies of the next four years, liberals.

Good choice. Anyone who can fluster Hannity can handle the job.

While I love Rachel Maddow her new show is a HIT and I don't think she'd want to give it up so soon.

I am fairly conservative in my views but i also knew that we needed change. I did not vote for Obama because of his extreme left leaning ways and his relationships with some very dirty and slimey people. After he was elected i hoped for the best with what we got. Now with the picks he has for key positions i now know that we are headed down a road of socialism that will tear this country apart. To the happy Obama supporters, in six months time when you find out he cannot deliver what he has promised and you get what he really wants, then you will have what you deserve

My vote goes to Mike Malloy. har har har. That left wing whaco radio show host would take care of all right wing whacos like Limbaugh, Hannity, Reagan, O'Reilly, all by himself.

If not Mike Malloy, then Lionel, Bender, Ed Schultz, Rachel Maddow or any other left wing radio show host would do.

As a white woman, I couldn't be more proud that a man that is 1/2 white is president. The fact that he is from a bi-racial family only proves how unique and awesome out country is!

I am baffled out of 2 years of an extremely disiplined campaign, that there are all these leaks now. I bet Obama is searching for the leaks and remove them quickly.

Let Obama go through his thorough, methodic process of putting the right people in the right positions without all this speculation.

btw, Gibbs would be great as Press Secratery.

Mr. Gibbs is great. He did a phenomenal job for Senator Obama. I also think both Mr. Plouff and Mr. Axelrod need to be rewarded. Clearly these two ran a very well disciplined campaign. Without those two, I am not sure if Senator Obama will be at where he is. They clearly showed the ability to run a extremely successful campaign.

Robert Gibbs is really a perfect person for this job under President Obama. He is calm under pressure. He is thoughful about his answers. He is totally drama-free. He is very available to the media. He is also liked by the media. He also does not lie even when put in through tough situation. Most importantly, he is well spoken and really stays on message............Great pick if he is really the one....
