Obama launches official transition Web site

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Barack Obama launched an official government Web site Thursday."]
(CNN) - Barack Obama launched the official government Web site for the presidential transition on Thursday, giving it a look and feel that suggests the new president will utilize the Internet to a much greater degree than his predecessor.

The site is a slightly more formal-looking incarnation of Obama’s campaign web site that features a blue-shaded presidential seal and a countdown clock to the Inauguration on January 20. There are biographies not only of Obama and Joe Biden, but also the directors of his transition team: John Podesta, Valerie Jarrett and Pete Rouse. The web site outlines Obama’s policy agenda, on issues from Iraq to social security to urban policy.

While the site lacks the innovative community organizing tools that helped propel the Illinois senator to the presidency, one section of the site does ask for user-generated content, asking Americans to submit stories about “what this campaign and this election means to you” and “where President-Elect Obama should lead this country.”

There is a transition blog, which at the moment only features a video of Obama’s Tuesday victory speech in Chicago’s Grant Park.

One link on the site is sure to get a flood of clicks: the “Jobs” section.

“All staff appointments chosen for this administration will be committed to fulfilling Obama’s campaign promises, to rebuilding our government, and to serving the American people again,” the site says.

The site is being flooded. People if you see the site log off so other scan see it! Dang it! It just launched so it won't be able to handle all the traffic it is getting bombarded with. But I've got to say this is impressive!

The site doesn't work? What incompetence. Just Kidding. It's nice for people to have a way of speaking to gov't. I presume it will be monitored for good ideas, but there are ways for us to abuse it as well.
I see, mostly from other story comments, that some US people are very uneducated re the social and economic value of lending a hand to less fortunate people, ie "everyone who is not working is a good for notheing" types of beliefs. Some have even said they might move to Canada. Please don't move here. We would love to have our own Obama. I think there are many third world countries where some of you would be much more comfortable.
Best wishes and thanks for your election decision.

    Transparency day one!

I hope those upset about the elction will read with a more open-heart and open-mind the bios and policies. All people running for President have loftier plans than what can be achieved. If you think he's going to accomplish everything exactly as he likes you are not being a bit too optimistic or pessimistic. He can only reach out and unite with others if they are willing to unite.

President-elect Obama is awesome. God has blessed us in such a mighty way !

I pray that the Lord Jesus Christ bless Barack and keep him. May the Lord make His face shine upon Barack, and be gracious to him. May the LORD lift up His countenance upon Barack, and give him peace.”’ – Numbers 6:24-26

May God's will be done in Barack's life and in his presidency (2008 and 2012) every day. In Jesus' Name. Amen

As soon as enough people see that he isn't some crank set on taking away their SUVs and giving them to al-Qaeda, consumer confidence will begin to rise and the economy will stabilize. But if the 'war fever' ends, manufacturing of war materiel will fall, destabilizing the economy again. It's all about confidence, people. Why are you so afraid of the black guy? Come out from under your beds and go back to your jobs. Take a shower, I think you wet your pants.

Allen, please cite exactly where Obama said he was going to tax us all and give our money to people on welfare? Whatever. Because you can't. And his one little comment of spread the wealth to Joe the Plumber does not count.

I myself am excited, this is very forward thinking!

By using technology such as the Internet, Obama reaches out to the youth of America. This may help them to become more involved.

We had eight years with one ideology, it's only fair to let the peoples choice have a chance.

Government by the people, for the people. What a novel idea – not. But this may be the first time that THE PEOPLE are actually included. This is really great!!!

    Sean, Santa Barbara,

Don't fret, President-elect Obama is a smart man. If he makes some decisions that some Israelis find questionable or not too favorable, it would be difficult to put a label on him because his Chief of Staff is of Israeli descent.

Debby, I know its complicated but do try and keep up!
Its designed to give voters a chance to see how the transition is going and what the transition board are doing- its called transparency- something the likes of Bush, Cheney and Palin no nothing about.
It also a chance to get the American public involved in having a say in which way the country should go- 'A government of the people, by the people, for the people'.
I take it from your failure to grasp this you have no suggestion- i have one but its not printable 🙂

I could care less how smooth Obamas transfer goes, he is not my president. He will turn this country upside down. He has visions of becoming a dictator, I hope the people who elected him know what they're doing.
