(CNN) - The war of words between supporters of each half of the Republican presidential ticket escalated Thursday, as a spokeswoman for Sarah Palin called charges circulated by former campaign aides to John McCain ‘sickening,’ and the Alaska governor herself said the advisers spreading the rumors were ‘small, evidently bitter’ people.
Former McCain campaign aides have been sources for a string of embarrassing stories about Palin that have become public since GOP defeat Tuesday night, including the charge that she spent thousands of dollars more on clothing for herself and her family than the $150,000 that has been reported.
There have also been reports of a somewhat distant relationship between John McCain and his running mate.
“This is so unfortunate and, quite honestly, sickening,” said Palin aide Meghan Stapleton in a statement. “The accusations we are hearing and reading are not true and since we deny all these anonymous allegations, there is nothing specific to which we will respond.
“We have the highest regards for Senator John McCain. Governor Palin was honored to be chosen as McCain’s running mate. And as Governor of Alaska, Governor Palin looks forward to working with President-elect Obama on securing energy independence for America.”
Back home in Alaska, Palin herself said she would not respond to individual accusations.
“If they’re an unnamed source, then that says it all,” she said. “I won’t comment on anybody’s gossip, or allegations that are based on anonymous sources. That’s kind of a small, evidently bitter type of person who would anonymously charge something foolish like that, that I perhaps didn’t know an answer to a question. So until I know who was talking about it, I won’t have a comment on false allegations.”
I have one question, have the clothes been donated yet to charity?
OK, it is no surprize to anyone, that Palin doesn't know much. It was talked over, in our face, shown on TV and debated in papers. It is also no surprize that for someone like her, who was so full of hate and bigotry and negativity, to have many enemies even among those who were close to her during the campagne.
I say, lets forget about this woman, like we never heard about her. Let her kill moose in Alaska (actually, I wish we didn't, but its entirely different debate), care for her grandchildren and lets all ask her to never EVER come to the national stage ever again.
I was always against HER, but even I feel that Republicans are being ridiculous in throwing her under the bus like that. After all, THEY PICKED HER! So, let the DIVA and her ENEMIES all retire and leave us help Obama lead this country into the right direction...

McCain's aids need only to blame themselves....we the people knew that Sarah Palin was an airhead, and wasn't ready to be VP let alone a VP candidate. Why didn't they try talking McCain out of his choice for VP?
but then again this is what Sarah gets for putting her lusty ambitions racist innuendos, and anti-American rhetoric all out there like that...she could have said no.
with that said...i don't feel sorry for her, and i wish she would just disappear.
Gov. Palin calling from her Alaska office is still insisting that the signs in the sun, the moons, and the stars should be imminent.
She really believes the election is not over.
So now all the venom McCain and Palin were directing toward Sens. Obama and Biden is being directed at each other instead. Sad state of affairs. They need to get over this nonsense and focus their energies on rebuilding our Nation under our President-Elect and Vice-President-Elect.
Wht is wromg with Alaska? A convicted felon close to re-election and a dimwit as a governor. These people amaze and scare me.
Lack of sunlight perhaps?
The truth hurts
Thank God the American people made the right choice. You really hope that she would just go away. But, it's like watching a trainwreck. You can't believe anything like this person could have ever been considered for such an important position as vice-president.........and if you keep watching there will be just more material for Tina Fey...abd if worse comes to worse Palin can apply for a job on SNL
Good thing they weren't elected. We definitely don't need this drama right now. We need a President who can focus on the issues.
I know this won't get posted, but I'll waste my time anyway....
Didn't all of you (the MSM...especially you, CNN) get exactly what you've wanted? Obama is the president-elect and Sarah Palin lost and is now back in Alaska. Can't you all leave her alone? Have you not had enough? If you feel the "need" to report all of this Palin bashing, get some sources who aren't afraid of her future political ambitions and are willing to give their names.
Apparently there was some sort of problem beyond losing. Why would high ranking people get fired? Why would anyone say these things, it doesn't fair well for anyone on the McCain side. I have a feeling Sarah saw herself as the most "important one." She seems sort of very naive about real politics.....she represents more local politics where she runs the whole show.
I sill have Toto's I care about in Africa!!!!!!!!!!
Amerifca you died in Viet Nam.........
I am an Obama supporter but I really feel sorry for Sarah Palin. She obviously was not ready for prime time. It looks like she is being blamed, unfaily for Mccain's defeat. I feel the blame should squarely be for McCain for choosing her in the first place. In many ways, I feel that it was unfair to her to be chosen as his running mate, and now she is going be at the receiving end again, that's not forgwetting all the missteps she had to endure on the campain trail. I feel sooo sorry for her
The male vultures are circling Sarah Palin the way they did Hillary Clinton. Male privilege and pride run amok with impunity with the media conglomerates leading the pack.
keep Sarah Palin in Alaska, no more of her senseless talk !
This demonstrates that Palin was never McCain's pick. There was no vetting, no relationship and the result is also no loyalty. The "team" was an image only. There was no intention to make Palin a meaningful VP. There could not have been because they didn't know anything about her or her deficits. Palin was picked to trick the evangelical base. They should be the most insulted of all. She was chosen for show.
I think Sarah Palin should go back to being Governor....she should concentrate on being a good mom and soon, grandma..I do wish her luck and I hope all this stuff surrounding the McCain campaign ends soon.
Yeah, yeah, whatever.
Just waiting for the lefties to get in here and start ranting about how much they hate Palin.
Let's see CNN do some decent reporting... but that might involve treating blacks and whites equally, which is racist.
Of course, she won't comment. She doesn't have anything relevant or intelligent to say now just like during the campaign.
You can blame Palin as long as you want to. Palin and McCain were equal in this election. Yeah Palin made a stupid comment sayin McCain is just like BUSH,, when we all know no one likes him,,, but still regardless what you adults say McCain walked off very well with his head held high and as a AMERICAN i am proud to know now that i live in a country were most people stand for their loss or gain. Obama is our new president and you have to accept that. Lets now focus on making our country better for the new children of the world instead of crying over whether or not it Palins fought or not. You all are adults i'm still in high school and i do get the big picture but i'm living and moving on with or with out you childish Adults. GROW UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just imagine, America...
This could have been going on at 1600 Pennsylvania...
Although I questioned her ability to serve, is she deserving of this attack?
Some advice Gov. Palin – stay out of national politics.
It is a cold, heartless world out here.
President Obama will turn on the heat and melt some ice...
Go Obama / Biden!
This quote, from the same woman who launched scurilous attacks on Obama based on rumor, gossip and innuendo. I don't think I need to comment any more on this creature.
Good luck in Alaska Sarah...you may need it.
I didn't care for her. But the wardrobe thing and the manniquin on the noose in Cali was over the top. As was the scene at Baylor U. in Texas.
We are better than this.
She didnt know that Africa was a continent and not a country? That sounds plain silly and of course the Mccain aids now want to disparage her. She brought youth and energy and was used as the attack dog.
You run a pretty distant state which a lot of people dont know much about. You are chosen to be the vice-presidential candidate. And you are basically cocooned and not given vital information. Shame on those "anonymous" aids. Though I voted against your ticket. Good luck to you Governor Palin. And I for one hope this isnt the last we've heard from you.
By picking Palin, it seemed like the republicans were trying to win by games and gimmicks. Case in point- Mccains refusal to debate, and the whole thing with the rush to Washington to "mediate" in the economic crisis and "suspending" his campain. It was sooo gimmicky and that was how they were hoping to win the elections. What a shame
The allegations may be from anonymous sources, but judging from her clueless responses during the Charlie Gibson and Katie Couric interviews, they appear to be credible. Sarah Palin could not name a newspaper she reads everyday, knew nothing about the Bush Doctrine or any Supreme Court decisions. It is not surprising she thought Africa was a country. A mind is a terrible thing to waste!
