List emerges for Cabinet posts

[cnn-photo-caption image= http://i2.cdn.turner.com/cnn/2008/images/11/07/art.gates.gi.jpg caption="Current Defense Secretary Robert Gates is likely to stay at the post, a source tells CNN."](CNN) - Barack Obama is considering a mix of Washington insiders and high-profile business executives to head various cabinet positions, one source involved in the cabinet gathering process told CNN.

For Secretary of State, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry is high on the list. Also on the list is Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd, a former presidential candidate who endorsed Barack Obama early in the Democratic primary season. New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson and former U.N. Ambassador Richard Holbrooke are also interested in the job.

For Secretary of Defense, there are indications current Defense Secretary Robert Gates will stay at the post "for a certain period." Gates, the former CIA Director under the first President Bush, has been praised by members of both parties for his leadership at the Pentagon over the last two years. Rhode Island Sen. Jack Reed, a former United States Army Captain and a member of the Armed Services Committee, is acting as the go-between with Gates.

Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano, who also served as that state's attorney general, is said to be a "very real possibility" for U.S. attorney general. Napolitano, who also endorsed Obama early in the primary process, was named earlier this week to the Obama transition team.  She's also served as a U.S. attorney from Arizona.

For Secretary of Commerce, former White House Chief of Staff Leon Panetta, Time Warner Chairman Dick Parsons, prominent Chicago Businesswoman Penny Pritzker, and University of California economist Laura Tyson are all under consideration.

One problem: the Obama administration wants a diverse cabinet, and that means everything is still up for grabs.

Last on the list: INTERIOR. Will it Mickey, Donald, or Goofy this year?

Well, well–talk about change. Sounds like the same old, same old. Bush was criticized for taking on men and women who served in his father's administration, but Nobama is going with people who have been in Clinton's administration and we know how well that turned out! There is no room for anyone to say that he is going to affect change when he is choosing the "good ol' boys" in the Washington insider club. Get a grip, Nobama, and go for that "change" we have heard so much about.

Interested to read that Gates maybe asked to say on as Sec. of Defense, I guess, not everything Bush did was wrong! If Gates does stay on, it would lead me to think no big change in terms of our Iraq policy.

You know with seeing names like Kerry, Dodd, Clarke, Kucinnich, it really is a shame Bozo and the Three Stooges are dead. They would've fit right in.

So what position is Oprah getting? I see Billy Graham's going to be giving up his counselling to presidents. This open the door to Rev. Wright? Maybe Louie Farrakhan?

Since OHB has deficiencies in character, I fully expect his cabinet selections to have the same.

And more is yet to come! I wholeheartedly support President-elect Obama, and in the same breath, I feel a twinge of sorrow for him and his family. I went through the Truman-FDR transfer of power, and am all-too-aware that ONLY when you are President or President-elect, do you come into the full vetted security briefings that every day really tell our leaders where we stand in the world, as well as exactly where we stand domestically. For those of us who are alive to remember, until Truman took office, he was not fully aware to the US status in WWII! Once he was made FULLY aware. only them did he accelerate the production and use of Atomic Weaponry. I wonder how many of CNN's readers are aware that the Top-Secret targets list contained over a dozen potential targets to use in case Japan did not surrender after the fatal Hiroshima and Nagasaki attacks? The next target was Tokyo, and the total destruction of over 10 million people. It will be interesting to watch the drama unfold as President-elect Obama receives more of the "eyes only" intel that ONLY less than a dozen people are privy!
    Good Luck & God Speed!

If Governor Bill Richardson were selected to be part of President Obama’s staff, it would be awful for New Mexico to lose such a great Governor, but it would also be comforting to know that Governor Richardson, with his experience, intelligence, and genuine understanding, would have a say so in Washington.

Why is is that nobody ever mentions that it is the Legislative Branch's job to manage the money? This is 10 months in a row that we have seen the unemployment rate rise. Isn't it ironic that is about how long the liberal Democrats have taken over the house?

I was a strong supporter of Obama, not Hillary. However I hope that she gets a high cabinet position. She deserves it.

REMEMBER THE IDEOLOGY BEHIND CONSERVATISM IS LITTLE TO NO REGULATION AND PRIVATIZATION OF EVERYTHING. BUT WHEN THE BANKS GOT PRIVITIZED AND SPLIT THE COMMERCIAL BANKS FROM THE SPECIALITY BANKS IT LED US TO THE MESS WHERE IN WITH NO REGULATION AND NO OVERSIGHT OR ACCOUNTABILITY WE LOSE I DON'T LIKE BIG GOVERNMENT BUT GOVERNMENT PLAYS AN IMPORTANT ROLE IN REGULATION SO WE CAN'T JUST ELIMNATE ALL GOVERNMENT AS CONSERVATIVES WANT TO DO, NO REGULATION, LOOSE REGUALTION ARE YOU CRAZY!!! LET THE RICH DO AS THEY PLEASE, SURE THAT'S A GREAT IDEA GREED = MORE GREED.

We need intelligent debate in America. Not schoolyard bully tactics.
