Source: Obama wants Valerie Jarrett to replace him in Senate

(Update: Two Democratic sources told CNN Monday that Obama wants Jarrett to serve in the White House, not the Senate.)
(CNN) - A prominent Democratic source close to Barack Obama confirmed Sunday that Valerie Jarrett is Obama’s choice to replace him in the Senate.
Jarrett is a Chicago lawyer and one of Obama’s closest advisers. She is also one of the leaders of Obama’s transition team.
Rep. Rahm Emanuel, the incoming chief of staff, said Sunday that he had not seen the report from Chicago’s WLS-TV that named Jarrett as Obama’s top pick, but he praised her as a “valuable ally.”
“People should know that Valerie Jarrett is - and people do know - she is a very dear friend of the president-elect and a valuable ally of his, not only prior to running for president, in his Senate life, and just personally for Michelle and Barack,” Emanuel said on ABC’s “This Week.”
The Illinois governor, Rod Blagojevich, will make the final decision on who will be Obama’s successor.

I was hoping Jarrett would be head of the department of transportation because that was her post in chicago for 10 years. if she replaces Obama in the senate, it will be a good choice. she is talented.

I hope the Governor listens to President Elect Obama. He will need all the support he can get from people he knows are intelligent enough to hold the office, and that he knows he can trust. I trust his jubgement completely! And I believe that he needs all the support he can get from the right people!
She looks like she has a lot of talent. I hope she does get the Senate seat.

I respect president obama's decision . he has shown us that he has real judgement.
Michale Sneed of the Sun Times reported several weeks ago that Obama was insisting that his Senate replacement be black. She was right. It was in the bag all the way. Is this the unity President? Guess not.
Great choice. She strikes me as a woman of great strength and intellect. She will make a great senator. She is measured in her words as well as in her actions. She will be a great role model for women.

I think that Obama sounded like Bush being loyal to his close friends. He should not matter who the governor chooses to be Obama successor.

President elect Brack Obama knows her better than us so that's a good idea but lets see what the Governor decision .
Shouldn't the Governor of Illinois choose that? Should't another African American from Illinois take the post?
I think if Obama is endorsing her and he appears to be that she'll get it.
She is family in a philosophical sense.
So I guess we can wait to see whether this dear friend is more important to him than the speculation that Jesse Jackson Jr., his co-chairman of his campaign is going to be promoted to the Senate from the House. But then again, for either one it's payback big time, and we can see who holds the most power in Chicago.
Here come the pay backs! Next it will be Richardson. I think the people of Chicago should decide? Biden is putting in his son for his Senate seat. Change is comming!!!The only change I see is in my pocket.
I watched Meet The Press this morning and I have to say this lady is amazing and would be an excellent replacement for President Elect Obama.
She looks like a nice person to replace Obama. I'm from Illinois and i hope our governor dosn't mess this up like he has with everything else.
I saw her today on ABC. This woman has what it takes and she is very loyal to our president-elect ( not really the same kind of harmony in the Mccain-Palin camp ) .
The first choice the Obama made is an excellent one.....
I thought Obama said it was the governors decision not his.
