(CNN) - President Bush and first lady Laura Bush welcomed President-elect Barack Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, to the White House on Monday afternoon.
Bush and Obama held a private meeting in the Oval Office, while the first lady gave the incoming first lady a tour of the residence.
The president and president-elect walked together along the colonnade by the Rose Garden before entering the Oval Office together. They briefly waved to reporters along the way.
Obama and Bush were not expected to speak on camera following their meeting.
An aide to Obama said they were "going to let the pictures speak for themselves."
The two met in the Oval Office for just over an hour. When President George H.W. Bush hosted President-elect Bill Clinton after the 1992 election, the two talked for nearly two hours.
Monday's meeting was a historic formality, but it was also a time for serious talks. It marked the first time that Obama has visited the Oval Office.

Dress? I really hate the way she dress. But I admire her her knowledge of various topics and the way she articulates. She has gorgeous kids. If only he dresses normal like every other exec women instead of dressing like a model.
OBAMA 2012
Leave Michelle alone, her dress is fine. What morons.
No attack for the last seven years. You should be thankful, I hope we have someone smart enough to continue this trend.
@ AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL, WELL SAID! THANK YOU!
The photo says it ALL! We should ALL set aside our petty differences, and be PROUD OF OUR NATION!
PEACEFUL TRANSFER OF POWER IS NOT SOMETHING TO TAKE FOR GRANTED......... ITS SOMETHING TO BE THANKFUL TO GOD FOR!
Uh, maybe your using the new math, but McCain DID NOT win 52% of the vote
-------------------------------–
I wasn't talking about McCain, but Barack.
I HOPE IT DOESN'T TAKE ANOTHER 9/11/2001 FOR US TO GET TOGETHER AS A COUNTRY. TOGETHER WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL.
I hate to add my 2 cents in but since this has devolved into a conversation about clothing I will say that I have found Ms. Obama HOT from the first time I saw her, I think she has a more natural beauty than the artificail one shown by Gov. Palin. As for the color of her dress,, well let me say I like bold women and she fills this dress out in a bold an beautiful way!
I almost wish I was back on the Submarines so I could have her picture up as my poster woman!
americas issues or michelle nobamas dress? and of course, the nobama idiots on this blog would rather talk about dress attire. i bet when the united states is goin down in flames because of this force fed candidate, the same idiots will still be praising the nobamas. nobama & nobama followers = stupidity and idiocy
What a beautiful couple, Barack and Michelle! They truly are bringing a whole new and positive energy to America and the world.
Monday afternoon, CNN White House News ticker stated "Obama's visit the Bushes". Obama's not aware of adequate restroom facilites at the White House...versus the Bushes..???????
God Bless America.
Geez could we at least try to be civil?
Swept Under the Rug
God forbid someone dies in your family..........better yet, God forbid you die.
Think about that, stupid!
Hey Phil– Bush is about to throw up because he has RuPaul standing a couple of people left of him!
GOD BLESS AMERICA!
This isn't just a very nice photo......it is a history-making photo, as well! We look forward to a future of REAL solutions for America's woes.
OBAMA / BIDEN .....YES THEY CAN!
Our 401k's are tanking, the economy is headed into a possible depression after this nasty recession, companies are going into bankruptcy on a daily basis, people are losing jobs, more bailouts on the way (you pay!), the dollar $ucks, the stock market is sick, people are losing their jobs, homes and their hope .... but Michelle's dress sure is a pretty one. That's all that matters. Mental midgets!
Some of the highly partisan idiots on this site can't ever find anything nice to say about George W. Bush. What exactly did he do today to warrant the snotty comments?
Its nice to see the Bush's have some decency and respect for the office rather than what the Clinton's did on their way out. Like taking all the W's off the keyboards and stealing a lot of the government bought furniture and wall hangings.
Look at the 4 of them George and Laura represent the past, Michelle and Barack represent the future and good things to come
I'm glag their meeting was private. It doesn't seem like anything else is these days.
It appears, that the comments about Mrs. Obama's dress attire . . . seems to coming from Women. Does your IQ not elevate any higher. Mrs. Obama has a Law Degree from Harvard, and with that said . . . when would she have had the time to attend Charm School?
Sure glad I clicked to see these comments. Priceless... Barack better make the education system his top priority.
The meting between Bush and Obama lasted only for an hour because Bush could not keep up with the level of intelligence and sophistication that Obama was discussing the issues at hand. I have no doubt that once President Elect Obama left the company of Bush to return home from this visit he could do nothing but shake his head.

Don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you.
To the best of my observation, not anyone really asked you to stay, so what are you waiting for? GO!
We won't miss you and your under achieving personality coupled with a good helping of whining and unpatriotic devotion to your country.
Also, Mrs. Obama is a Full-time Mother–AND–Full-time Career!
