"]WASHINGTON (CNN) - John Edwards took the stage at Indiana University on Tuesday night for a discussion on the 2008 presidential election, but members of the audience may have had something else on their minds entirely.
After all, this is the former North Carolina senator's first public appearance since his admission of an extramarital affair sent shockwaves through the political world more than three months ago.
The revelation, confirming a months-long investigation by the National Enquirer, was a political bombshell for the former candidate, who espoused moral values during his White House bid and whose wife is fighting a public battle with breast cancer.

Dave,
It doesn't matter his is bad, nasty or lies as soon as it's his private life, all we care is he is able to do some good jobs for the country. All those republican values, faith, family value, are personal stuffs, you believe god and I don't etc, it's a personal matter, what it has to do with managing a country or local government. It make me sick these Republicans to bring these to public. Looks at the evangelical leaders , bunch of sex offenders, Bush had lots of faiths, has he made the country better ?
Everyone who said he should be back and everything is forgiven I am sure were the same people who were bashing McCain for leaving his first wife for Cindy. Hypocrites.
I am formerly a supporter of John Edwards, but he just needs to go away. He needs to stop trying to be a politician and concentrate on his marriage and his family.
If you will cheat on the one you are supposed to be with until 'death do you part', then you are not capable of keeping your word to ANYONE, especially the american public. He is a discredit to his party, and to america's belief in loyalty. He should retire from politics until he finds his morals and is capable of keeping his promises (at one point, on some altar, he made a promise, and did not keep it: FAILED)
All "John" are cheaters!!
This is a non-starter, so that makes it a big, fat NO!
If he wants to get back into the arena, then he'll need to start in North Carolina first. LOL John.
I'd like to see a policy and geography debate between him and Palin. The winner gets to stay in the news.
Is that enuff?
Well, he's got a new kid he needs to take care of, and if he decides he wants to actually be the husband he failed at trying to convince everyone he was, he's gonna need to do something. I mean hey, you can only chase ambulances for so long. Besides, that 20,000 + sq. ft. mansion takes a lot of electricity to run. That, and the posh LA hotels where he goes for his trysts can get a little pricey too. Don't forget hush money as well. Hey, gots ta pay them bills.
I was a huge Edwards supporter and was hugely disappointed in his behavior. He has so much to offer the country, but he undermined his own opportunity to make a difference. He had to have known that if this came out, his ability to make a contribution would be compromised. I just can't see how it was worth it–he damaged himself, his marriage, and his future as a strong voice for the less fortunate among us. That said, I do think he'll be able to come back in some way, but not yet, and not as prominently as people like me had been hoping for.
He needs us more than we need him. I think he should find something new to do. Perhaps he could use his legal skills to help people who need help. His political career is over.
If McCain can cheat on AND leave his 1st wife for Cindy Lou – I think John can over come a brief affair.
Are you kidding? Of course John Edwards can make a come back. If it didn't work he can always run for Ted Stevens' United States Senate seat. "Come to Alaska where the water is blue, the ice is white, the polar bears are drowning and you can be a felon and get elected by the loving people of this vast state."
JJ – I hate to disappoint you but the concensus of opinion re Kerry's resurgence seems to be "NAH"! You see, even us Democrats know when to call a spade a space even if it hurts a bit. By the way, I wonder what will become of that recovering alcoholic politician who backslid and decided to christen a party crowd with urine. Why do these people even think of holding public office?
I think this is good, life has to go on for all parties involved. People don't underestimate the people in Indiana, we are not that hostile, and to show you just how smart we are, we turned a red state BLUE!
Edwards need only to seek forgiveness from his family and God. Here in Indy, we will receive and accept all the wisdom he has to give for our betterment.
This isn't about sex being none of our concern. Many people are dirt bags and cheat on their spouses. But I don't want a dirt bag in washington...let them be a dirt bag in their hometown, NOT representing me or cheating on ME.
This is about a politician keeping his word. He vowed at an altar to be faithful to his wife. He failed, he can not in any way EVER be trusted to do what he says. He has proven to lie through his teeth.
John Edwards still has voice with the poor of America, he stood up for those over looked by mainstream politics, he has creditability with the forgotten and speaks for the poor. He should have a post in the Obama Administration.
If all the politicians admitted to extra-marital affairs who would be left in in Washington? Big deal big whoop the man is right.
if the former president of the US Bill Clinton can be forgiven forgiven for infidelitywhy not John Edwards!
We all human and have flaws. This man has been a great advocate for the poor.If his wife can forgive him why cant the average American
I say move on... John Edwards still has much to offer in politics
John who???? Rings a bell but can't really place the name.........oh yeah, now I remember....he committed adultery.......NO we don't need him.
I think he can make a comeback..he isn't the first politician to have an affair and certainly won't be the last. His wife and family have worked out this matter privately and he doesn't need the public in the middle of it...
He has been very vocal in the areas of poverty and education and has a lot to offer if asked...we don't need him to give advice on moral issues...just business....
"Americans are very forgiving, and their memory is often short," Spellman said. "He can come back if he does it right."
I can't even remember what Edwards did.
well he is sleazy............and Denorats are sleazy..............so sure he has a bright future
He can make a come back......hey just look at Bill Clinton
He is a LOSER. His wife went along with the lie that he told the public.
Life's full of choices John...bank tellers who steal never work in that business again....politicians who cheat should never work in that line again either.
NO.
