"]WASHINGTON (CNN) - John Edwards took the stage at Indiana University on Tuesday night for a discussion on the 2008 presidential election, but members of the audience may have had something else on their minds entirely.
After all, this is the former North Carolina senator's first public appearance since his admission of an extramarital affair sent shockwaves through the political world more than three months ago.
Edwards talked about politics, poverty and his hopes for America and the world, according to The Associated Press. Afterward, he answered only written questions that had been submitted before his speech. The affair wasn't mentioned, AP reported.
The revelation, confirming a months-long investigation by the National Enquirer, was a political bombshell for the former candidate, who espoused moral values during his White House bid and whose wife is fighting a public battle with breast cancer.

He cannot make a come back. He was beaten the last two times he tried to run for a public office. And that was before this scandal. If he could not get himself elected with out that baggage he cannot do it with the scandal hanging over his head. The people have spoken, they dont like this guy, well enough to elect him.
In a country with a divorce rate of 50%, this is just a blip on his career
Must be room in the Obama cabinet for such a fine upstanding Senator! Let Americans get what they deserve for electing this individual.
Stay gone, John–you blew it.
I hate what he did to Elizabeth, but the holier-than-thou attitude of Republicans is interesting. John McCain left his wife for Cindy, and reportedly had numerous affairs after returning from VietNam. Sarah Palin had an affair with Todd's business partner, which was never brought up by Obama...because he is a gentleman. Can you imagine Palin's speeches had there been any hint of an affair by either Biden or Obama.
And my opinion of Palin has not changed after this current media blitz. If she were really the woman directed by her God, why would she read race-baiting speeches and question the patriotism of a man she had never met? Because she thought that would win an election. Doesn't sound very Christian, nor very honest, to me.
Sleezebag needs to stay home in his mansion and keep his mouth shut but then he is a Democrat aka slick willie type.
If the Media stop talking about Africain American and Black the racial problem here in America will go away.
Edwards lost all credibility. Go back to NC you ambulance chasing liar
Forget about a come back, John. You're damaged goods.
Better the story came out before you were a serious candidate for the White House than after.
Dear Mr. Edwards,
Please crawl back under your rock.
Sincerely,
a NC resident
Go away John! I supported you, now I know you are a sleeze ball, just go away. We have much better people to serve in Government. There is no such thing as a second chance, you have one chance to get it right and you failed. Just please go away!
go away John Edwards. You are a hypocrit and a phoney. You should be ashamed to show your face and pontificate in public. Go do some REAL good deeds and then show your face.
I'm from NC and live about five miles from the Edwards. Needless to say, it was at least fun to see a local on the national stage representing issues I care about. So it was doubly disheartening to see him revealed as what he obviously is, just another smarmy, mealy-mouthed, hypocritical political wannabe. He cheated on his sick wife and then lied about the most important thing in the world, his marriage. How can anyone ever take seriously anything he says, ever again? (Sorry about the typos)
Please spare us from this sleaze-ball hypocrite.
John Edwards is in the same boat like Sarah Palin-–NOT CREDITABLE.
