Awkward press conference for Palin

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption="Palin's pres conference was changed at the last minute."]MIAMI (CNN) - Two hours before Thursday morning’s press conference at the Republican Governors Association — her first since the Republican presidential ticket lost last week — Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin was still scheduled to appear alone. Instead, she spoke with a row of fellow governors standing silently behind her.

Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour told CNN producer Evan Glass that they all met at 9 a.m. - an hour-and-a-half before the press conference’s scheduled start time - and by then it had been "decided" that they'd all go out together.

An RGA official told CNN the reason for the change is a "long story."

He said that when the governors were all at their private morning meeting, someone brought up the desire to get beyond what happened in the McCain campaign and look towards 2009 and 2010.

Then, this source said, Palin piped up and said she agreed that she didn't want to talk about the past.

This source insists that it was then decided that the other governors in the meeting would go with her to her press conference as a "show of unity."

The source admitted that it may not have been easy for some "big egos" to go in and stand behind her, but they knew they'd be doing so.

Not present: the conference host, Florida Gov. Charlie Crist. A Florida GOP source tells CNN "he didn't know about it,” because he wasn't at the morning meeting.

In another shift, Palin — who had been slated to take questions for 20 minutes or so - took just four press queries.

Why did Texas Gov. Rick Perry cut it off so fast?

"We were running behind schedule," insisted the GOP official.

Palin may not have wanted to talk about the past, but her speech was almost entirely about the McCain campaign; she included little in the way of detailed ideas about the way forward for Republicans, the theme of the panel.

You people are doing this intentionally so that the anti-Palin comments appear at the top of the comment section. That is pretty obvious in this little observation test I just did. Why else would you let through anti-Palin trash talk for several minutes prior to posting my comment? WE are on to you!!!!

She really is the perfect local TV newscaster. Big smile, big hair, small brain.

Sarah Palin needs to go go back to school and retake 5th grade civics before she ever gets my vote. I don't think we need another dummy in the White House.

The GOP is imploding before our eyes and no one is listening to Ron Paul.

Palin: "I don't want to talk about the past, BUT, concerning Bill Ayers ... blah, blah, blah... "

    This woman is so clueless.

I wish there was some insight on what REALLY happened behind the closed doors. It's obvious from what some of the governors have said in interviews over the last couple of days (Pawlenty, etc.), that they're sick of Palin too.

Her 15 minutes of fame are up. Send her back to Wasilla, where she MIGHT be competent enough to run the PTA.

This simpleton and wasilla hillibilly is the face of the "New" GOP?

Thank God America finally woke up from the downhill it was heading fast, I pray to God that the "real" people in the GOP wake up fast enough as the American people did or else we will be seeing a new party rise to replace this mess!!

I am sick and tired of reading, seeing or hearing about sister Sarah Palin, this is becoming as nuseating as Joe the whatever!!!

Is there any other kind of press appearance for Sarah Palin? Come on, you guys are just piling on here – she's a natural born idiot, and there is not need to keep pointing it out.

I think once this is all done in Florida they are going to ship her back to Alaska and forget about her.. Is the best thing the GOP can do.

this is stupid. The election is over. Let's start monitoring the actions of our new socialist-in-chief-elect, who has representatives meeting with Hamas.

I guess he's keep the next 4 years as top secret as his past. But with a past like his, who could blame him.

I wonder how on many separate occasions he snorted blow, and when was the last time... I wonder what he did to score blow when he couldn't even afford an apartment in NYC.

They were running behind there's an understatement. They're running behind everything. Palin needs to run behind a truck right before it comes to an abrupt stop.

She still doesn't get it...not too many people like or respect her. She insults anyone with an IQ larger than their waistline.

She needs to go home and do the "Alaska" thing. Hunt, fish, snow machine, live in the dark and watch out for the Russians.

    Enough already!

I'm not surprised she didn't take as many questions. During the Presidential Campaign she was always dodging reporters. "I'm late" or "My plane is leaving". There was always something to dodge the cameras. Funny, she seems to love television interviews now, y'know, the ones where you get briefed on questions beforehand.

Sarah, Please, for the love of God, just SHUT what they call DA H3LL UP! I mean, you are totally ruining your political career. Please, go back to Alaska, and just take a whole year off from the media. Get you some crash courses on foreign policy, and the US Constitution then make a comeback. Please, just SHUT UP! That press conference sounded like a broken record. I mean come on.

Why does Palin suddenly think she is the leader of the party? She seems to love getting in front of that camera now. I sincerely hope the Republicans can find someone with a little more (no, a LOT more) sense to step up in the leadership role. This woman is NOT what the Republicans need!!!

That idiot wants to be role model for girls. Base on what–having 5 babies and absolutely no command of the English language? She thinks winking, and twirling her hair is all she needs to get ahead. Well, it's not, and she's a moron.

Stay away from my kid Sarah, your lack of education is showing.

This is just all very sad – for her and for all of us. If she wasn't attractive and charismatic, she would not get one minute of serious press coverage. She can't even formulate a single sentence properly; much less discuss policies and issues in any depth and detail. She's the epitome of a dangerous political figure – she has no clue how clueless she is.
