Bill Clinton says wife would be 'great' secretary of state

[cnn-photo-caption image= caption=" Bill Clinton says his wife would make a great secretary of state."](CNN) - Former President Bill Clinton is weighing in on the possibility of his wife becoming secretary of state, saying the New York senator would "be really great" in the post.

"She loves doing what she is doing. But if she decided - if he decided to ask her to do it and they did it together I think she'd be really great at being secretary of state," Clinton said Sunday during an economic conference in Kuwait hosted by the National Bank of Kuwait.

But the former president made clear his wife did not seek out a job offer.

"She worked very hard for his election after the primary fight they had and so did I and we were very glad that he won and we have a lot of confidence that he can do a good job. But she did not do what she did with the hope or expectation of getting any kind of job offer, much less getting this discussed," he said.

The New York senator is reportedly on Obama's shortlist for the position. Sources tell CNN New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson is also in the running.

This is a much better match than VP. I think a lot of us have been hoping for this arrangement all along.

To mm: Get over it. The best way to keep someone on track with you is to have them work with/for you. Barack can manage the situation and who could be more qualified and internationally respected than Hillary?

Great news about Senator Clinton! When the proverbial phone call comes in to the White House at 3:00 AM, the prerecorded message will say:

"We are sorry, the president is asleep right now dreaming of a better tomorrow. If this is a real emergency please dial 1-800-HILLARY"

If change means no Clinton then it should also mean no Biden. Duh!
Hillary is NOT Bill. She is her own person. Get over it!

She'd be trouble, because trouble follows the Clintons. I like Barack and wish him well, but if he choosing Clinton so be it. I don't want to hear, read, or see all the drama she will bring to the table. She will be a huge mistake and Barack will find that out.

Hillary and Bill are the most selfish people on the face of the earth and starting a "change" administration with the two of them is a mistake.

I agree strongly with Jax of Florida, that Hillary would do much more good as Sec. of Health 7 Human Servies, give her strong focus on health care reform.

Bill Richardson could do far more good in the position of Secretary of State.

Hillary would be great in this position because she has a lot of experience in this area.
Hillary will be the one to decide if she takes it or not, She may prefer to stay where she is.
I will support her either way because she is a very smart woman who runs her own show.
It would be great to have her be part of Obama's administration in any capacity.

Great choice! Obama is a VERY smart man: Keep your enemies close.... Mrs. Clinton is more damaging in the senate...

Sound advice, Senator Obama. Keep Hillary as close to you as possible.

If you let her "free range" in the Senate, she will pick apart your Presidency, block your legislative initaivies, and generally position herself for a 2012 run.

Obama won because he promised change, yet he is surrounding himself with many people from the Clinton Administration – thats not change, its more of the same that didn't work – what a joke, he's all smoke and mirrors, and totally inept to lead even a group of Boy Scouts!
    Heaven help us all.

How could Hilary ever be a great Secretary of State – she still believes she is the most current viable candidate for President. If she became Sec. Of State she would effectively remove herself from a 2012 race. Besides she is not controllable.

Secretary of State is fourth in the Presidential line of succession, but if she remains in the Senate and becomes President Pro Tempore, she would become third in line behind the Vice President and the Speaker of the House.

Hillary, tell Obama to stick it. He didn't want you on his ticket so let him get some other inexperienced idiot like himself for Secy of State.

Notice how he wants to surround himself with EXPERIENCED people to tell him what to do so he can get re-elected!

MY question you think all of the young troops and their familes have realized their "obama will bring my baby home" vote was wasted? Have they figured out that he will not only NOT bring them home but will send them to Afganistan instead AND increase numbers to more than we have deployed now. Wonder how he will find so many people to send? Think that's what he meant by we must all work together? Where are all the anti- war hippies or celebrities out there protesting that?

Clinton would be a great choice. Everyone said that Rohn would be a bad choice too but Obama still picked him. I wish everyone would get over themselves. Obama is choosing who he wants in those positions – not who you want. You would have America slammed into a depression with our enemies attacking us in our own country. Shut up! Get real! Your fantasy that Obama's message of change meant no old Washington is unrealistic. His change is more in tune to getting Bush out and getting Washington, and the nation, working again. He needs the best people out there to get that done.

I think Sen.Clinton would make an excellent choice and would help unite the party. I read somwhere that Powell only wanted a position having to do with education.

Hillary would be the most fabulous choice for Secretary of State – eminently qualified and would send a real signal to the rest of the world to have such a high profile person as Secretary. It also speaks volumes about what Obama is all about – putting his ego and any petty squabbling between the two of them aside to pick THE best person for the position. Kerry or Richardson??? They would each be a disaster
