Clinton still millions in debt
CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) - A source tells CNN that Barack Obama's presidential campaign raised $800,000 to help pay down Senator Hillary Clinton's debt from her bid for Democratic presidential nomination.
An aide to Clinton says that the Senator from New York has $7.6 million in debt remaining from her primary campaign. Clinton was over $20 million in the red after she gave up her campaign and endorsed Obama following the end of the primary season in early June. About half of that figure was money she owed herself after loaning her own campaign over $12 million dollars.
An aide to the president-elect says that the Obama campaign will disclose how much money they have left over from their run for the White House when the campaign files a financial report with the Federal Election Commission on December 4.

How can Clinton remain in debt when her and bill have a net worth way over 100 million?
love Hillary. No matter what she is great. People should not look down on her bc of money, because it is not money which should determine who is good leader.
Good leader is not necessarily good money taker. Good leader is good leader, and I do believe she would be good leader, or at least secretary of state.

Well.... I gave her what I could. And I really think she has what it takes to be a good Prez, Sec of State, or Sen. But! She could not have picked a bigger bunch of losers to run her campaign, and she certainly suffered from thinking it was a coronation, not a contest. That said,.....

Give me a break, the Clintons could easily pay that off themselves, they brought in over 100 million dollars personally.
Clinton has some positives but control of a budget obviously isn't one of them. She mismanaged her campaign really bad; she continued to run even when she had almost no chance of winning. Now where are all those women that kept telling her to run – why haven't they contributed to her campaign debt when she was suppose to be running on their behalf?
SO? Not our problem and I could care less.

How do you owe yourself money? If she was stupid to spend her own money, why she should she get any of it back?
Why doesn't anyone use the verb "to lend" anymore? When I was growing up, "loan" was a noun and "lend" was a verb.
Example: "I will lend you ten dollars, but don't blow that loan at the racetrack."
Now folks use "loan" as verb and noun, as in,
"Loan me a loan of ten dollars."
I don't get it.
She's holding out accepting the SOS position until Obama cut's her a check to pay off her debt.
Shouldn't this be Clintons job to do this? She refused to drop out of the race after all!

According to Newsweek, Hillary and her top staff people refused to stay in roadside motels and insisted on staying in the Presidential sutie of luxury hotels.
They wasted their money and they'll have to deal with it.
So why did she keep her campaign going again? Oh, (OPM) because she was spending other peoples money!

Though I respect Mrs. Clinton, her campaign was a disaster. We can tell a lot about a candidate by the way they manage a campaign. In the case of Mrs. Clinton, she did a terrible job.
I would welcome using left over money of President-elect Obama's campaign to pay down Hillary Clinton's debt. She and her husband have campaigned of Obama's behalf and therefore helped him.
Pay your own bills, Hillary.
She has to take responsibility for that herself. Gambling everything on cheating the official party rules for MI and FL turned-out to not be wise decision. She should have just conceded when it became abundantly clear that Obama was going to win.
Obama should pay off this debt considering how many former Clinton appointees he's now hiring. He owes Bill and Hillary big time. By the way, nice how CNN closed off the new AG annoucement so quickly. Guess you guys knew you'd be getting som anti-Obama comments so you quickly suppressed it.
She wouldn't drop out when a lot of people were telling her to. If she chose to use her own money, so be it. She can write another book or Bill can help her pay it off with his money he makes giving speaches.
All poiticians should take dept into consideration when running for office.
Now before all you PUMAs start complaining that Obama's campaign has lots of money and he should pay her debt ... he can't ... its not legal to take his campaign money and use it on Hillary's debt. The best he can do is hold fund raisers and encourage his supporters to make donations to her.

I don't know what possessed Hillary Clinton to keep burning through money when it was clear that she was not going to win the nomination. The debt is her responsibility, since it is the result of a huge ego problem.
I really don't mean to sound ignorant but would someone please please tell me why this has anything to do with Obama or why it is anyone's responsibility besides HRC? I am not a Hillary hater or anything like that but I cannot for the life of me understand why her ongoing debt issues are of anyone else's concern or responsibility. If anyone can help me understand this I would be greatly appreciative. If not, then I'll know that I'm not crazy....
